I think this will be a draw. West ham were decent against arsenal and Liverpool. Our rotten away form and the fact that we can't score goals right now, this will finish 1-1.

    Huge game for my sanity.

It's also my birthday tomorrow... So my pessimism is automatically doubled

Would be a good result if we then go and beat Wolves.

I'd take a draw now. Will be far more difficult than most think given how bad we are away.

Lose this and Liverpool win today then we're very likely to blow it.

For about the 5th time on this thread - our away form against the bottom 10 is excellent.

We have the 5th best away record in the league overall.

Do you really think we’re going to win?

    Probably yeah.
I’m far from confident and wouldn’t be surprised whatever the outcome, win, lose, draw. We didn’t find it easy against them at home and, regardless of our good away record against bottom teams, it’s hard to argue that we’re as good away as we are at home, generally, that is.

Are we though? We could still afford a loss from a very favourable final 4 fixtures.

    Can’t stand them.

Toni ‘em, send them down, and secure Top 4.

Can’t even face being pessimistic and expecting the worst so feck it. We should smash them.

Must win this game! Can’t afford to go into the end of the season having nervous games. Top 4 should have been wrapped up a while ago if we didn’t drop silly points!

Do we just need like 9 points to secure top 4? We have 3 games remaining at home dont we so just by winning our home games we should be ok?

We played these guys twice at home and won but they were tight games when West Ham were at a low ebb and we were doing better. Now we’re at their place when they’ve picked up somewhat and we’re not looking good at all.

huh? Since we beat them 3-1 in the FA Cup they are 3W-2D-5L with a minus-8 GD (14GF 22GA) in the league.. They've lost 3 on the bounce.

Also that 3-1 "tight game" we started a rotated team with a back-4 of Dalot-Maguire-Lindelof-Malacia and a CM of McTominay and Sabitzer.

The idea that we will improve once we play once per week is folly.

It isn't when you've been playing a match on average every 3-4 days since end of December. That takes a toll. We've played 36 matches since then. You know how many matches the 98/99 team played from the end of December until May? 26. 10 fewer matches in the same span.

West Ham have a far bigger game than this on Thursday. Wouldnt surprise me if Moyes has one eye on that.

Oh yeah, don’t expect me to check my facts (!). Both games we played them were tight.

Selection could be a factor and we have our best midfielders back now but bear in mind they’re not playing that well.

West Ham can always lose three on the bounce but on balance they are doing better than they were. I wouldn’t take much comfort from their losing streak these losses were City, Liverpool and a close humdinger away to revitalised Palace. Before that they were unbeaten in five with three good wins in there and a draw with Arsenal.

Yep. That’s assuming Liverpool win all their remaining games. It’s also assuming Brighton don’t though, which they won’t.

Depends if you believe three of their key players were ‘ill’ the other night or not. Personally, I think he rested them for tomorrow and Thursday.

I actually think playing 1 game per week will make us worse!

I'm quite optimistic that having that very rare chance to rest, recover and get prepared for the next match will help us. A few times this season we've seen half of the team being pretty fatigued, so I hope and expect to see a more energetic and therefore better United side on the pitch during the last weeks of the season.

I think it will make a big difference both physically and mentally. We can prepare properly for games and get some of the match specific tactics drilled a bit better.

Part of the problem is that the players drift off the game plan and lose their intensity in the second half. More rest and just time between games is sure to help.

Not sure where you are getting they were unbeaten in the league in 5 since they got smacked 5-1 by Newcastle. Their match against Arsenal, I say had more to do with Arsenal's bottle run to lose the league, where they threw away 3 matches in the run up to Citeh.

Also we were unbeaten in 5 in the league before Brighton and it really should be 6 if it wasn't for Brighton diving to get a free kick which started the chain of events to the handball. If the dive doesn't happen we take it to the corner and it's FT.

I agree. A couple of days off Mon-Tue could do wonders. Haven't had any chance of even one day off since the international break.

I’m not getting it from anywhere, it’s five matches all comps.

No-one is suggesting we aren’t a better team than them, we’re 4th, they’re barely out of the drop zone, and logically we should win. The thing is, you could say that about a lot of games this season and we haven’t had the performance or result that logic suggested. We’re inconsistent recently and, on the whole, we’re less good away from home, especially in the second half of matches.

West Ham have shown they are quite capable of getting results vs teams above them in the league. If I was them I’d set up to sit deep until half time and have a go at us in the second half. Don’t think we’d enjoy that very much. We can’t seem to score goals just now and seem to end most games on our knees. There’s just no basis for bullishness on our part. All may change tomorrow, we shall see.

They played Gent twice, whose lost 10 times this season in the Belgian league, yet are still top of the league by 2 points.
I suppose those don’t count, then?

I don’t see where it gets you to do that. You might as well not count all our away wins to the bottom teams because they are all shit teams, and yet you have some people holding those up to say we’ve got the 5th best away record in the league.

West Ham are like us in that they’re inconsistent. They’ve had bad runs, good results. They’ve scored 3 or 4 in a match quite a few times and, like us, they do concede as well. Anything could happen but the balance of evidence does not suggest an easy win for us, especially looking at our recent lack of goals. I want to be wrong and often am so chins up and all that.

I wonder if they won't risk rushing both Soucek and rice back for this one given their midweek game?

Thinks Moyes said it was a quick one to recover from, so they're probably playing. He also said that a couple more have got the same virus(?) now but didn't mention the players.

I actually think playing 1 game per week will make us worse!

The best teams play 2 games per week and win regularly.
In 1999, we were playing 2 games per week and won every single game we played in that run into the treble.
Currently, we see MCFC winning every game they play and they are playing 2 games per week.

2 games per week is something that ETH should've planned for.

I do agree that our away form is dreadful and I see us drawing this match.

i'm sure he did make that plan as he would want to win every trophy possible BUT...we don't the deepest squad and then you pack on longer term injuries after coming off a World Cup and playing each week 2 matches in 4 days and that's a massive tall order for anyone physically. Playing Tuesday/Saturday or Wed/Sun is a hell of a lot easier than Th/Sun

Yes. The main problem in recent weeks has been that the team are just fecking tired, as any team would be after playing months of games every few days-- apart from City, of course, who anyway are not a team but a fecking convention.

Against any other side, with an upcoming European semi, West H would be making wholesale changes to the team. But this is Utd, their cup final, and the ultimate game-raising mob will be out in force. Our passing game has fallen off cliff last couple of months so we cannot control games when leading or losing so this will be no different to the previous away games!
