This will be a tough game. If we were near the top of the league, a draw would be a good result. We have to win it though.

I would play the big tall guys.

Our players will be fecking KNACKERED for this game. According to Jose the fatigue has been accumulating recently. no way we will be able to put out our strongest team. Not very confident about this one.

I think Fellaini will play instead of Herrera.

Apparently he was shagged by the end of Palace match.

Big opportunity for us to make up the gap with City playing Arsenal and Liverpool vs Everton.

People are like West Brom didn't play on Wednesday too.

They will be shattered too and have one of the oldest teams in the leagues. That is no excuse if we lose.

I'd bring in Lingard/Martial for Rooney.

Not registering Schweinsteiger in the Europa was silly now. He'd be useful in this period with Mourinho not wanting Schneiderlin.

Funny how every opponent get over hyped before a United game on the Caf.

Last week the way Palace and Zaha were being bigged up by people was funny. Now we're onto WB it's their turn to be talked as if they were 2011 Barca

This one isn't Caf hysteria though

    - We are knackered, they play a physical game
    - Very defensively solid and organized, something we struggle against
    - They have one of the best headers of the ball in the league currently on red hot form, coming off a hatrick
    - Their bread and butter is crosses and set pieces, we suck at defending those
    - We have injury struggles
    - They are on quite the run and good form

Obviously they'll make me look a fool now by tonking us, but West Brom have so far only managed 1 result against a top half team this season, a 1 - 1 draw with Spurs. They've had a good run of form recently, but their results have come against generally poor teams.

All the big teams have whipped WB so far.

They're solid and all given we're talking about a Pulis team but nothing to fuss about too much.

Some of the things you wrote about us apply to them as well. If we're tired, so are they especially given they have a much older squad than ours like someone mentioned. We've both played 2 games in a short space of time and will both be playing 3 games in 6/7 days.

Miki is the biggest miss injury wise right now but we've managed w/o him in our latest outing. The solid defense that has been going for weeks now is still the same(Valencia is coming back).

We have creativity in our side to deal with organised team, what will be needed mostly once again is ruthlessness in front of goal when we create chances.

How are we knackered? If anything we came on stronger during the last 25 mins v Palace rather than show any signs of tiredness.
Saying that, shouldn't West Brom be the team that's feeling tired if they're such a physical side?

    This.

Superior teams have simply beaten WB with maybe 1 exception.

Jose said that we have fatigue and that it has been building up. Zlatan had to drop into midfield to deputize for a knackered Herrera against CP. Our main man is a 35 year old who will play his third match in a very short timespan.

Saying that they are physical doesn't necessarily mean that they run around a lot and become knackered, they are very physical in their battles and defending, which means we might for once not dominate physically like we normally do these days.

WB have a much older squad than ours which means fatigue is more likely applied to them than us.

Not only that, they have got more players on a run than us, with McAuley, Fletcher, Yacob, Morrison, Phillips and Rondón on a run.

But we have so many options to bring in. Martial / Lingard /Rashford / Valencia and Smalling could all come into the side. Even then we could start Fellaini to counter their physicality. Pogba / Ibra / Fellaini / Jones / Valencia/ Rojo and even Carrick would never be bullied by West Brom imo.
Benteke and Zaha were in even better form and they were lost v us.

Before our last match, Zaha was made out to be the reigning Ball on Dor winner.....or so it was made to sound like.
When I saw him play, he was terrible; diving at every opportunity and not doing anything productive.

In the case of WBA, they have great form going into this game, so maybe the hype regarding WBA is well founded. Who knows.

Hopefully Carrick can play this game, we need him and then he'll have 8 days rest before the next game.

Agree with this. Everytime we play someone, it's always the opponent who'll "finish us", completely forgetting that we have Ibra/Pogba/Mata/Martial/etc on the pitch. But nope, clearly Rondon is the star of the show here... :wenger:

Make no mistake about it, West Brom are shite and United should be winning this.

I've been basing my whole nervousness about this weekend on the notion that West Brom have an exceptional defence.

Now I've just read that they've only kept one clean sheet in their last 13!

McAuley, Brunt, Fletcher, Phillips and Rondon are playing well. But if we play as we have been lately, and put the foot down for a bit after we score, we can win this well.

Early goal would be a godsend this game. Throw their plan out of the window.

Why are people worried about the Baggies? We'll beat them no problem. They may put up a fight but we'll get there in the end. I just hope that some of our underperformers take their chance and step up. We really need a strong, deep squad over the next few weeks.

Massive match this, as the other relevant games are City - Arsenal and Everton - Liverpool. Great opportunity to claw back some points either way.

As much as its a tough ask it will be immense! Around 10 minutes would do the trick. A just maybe give them the sucker punch by making it 2-0 on the stroke of half time.
We hold on to our lead and see out the game, with a scare of Rondon making it 2-1 in the 85min but we still make it home.

Or we can just smash them 4-0...that will work as well.

If I heard correctly Jose said Smalling is back for this one. I think his height and physicality will be welcomed. But at the same time he won't drop the time bomb Rojo cause he has to back him up and despite him almost costing us twice now, he has been doing okay. Still I think the best for this one given the injuries would be:
    Valencia Jones Smalling Blind

For mid and attack, as much as I also want Carrick to rest and it seeming so unlikely that he will play 3 games in such a short period of time, I just can't see us playing without him, and since we will have 9 days off after this one, I'd risk playing him.
Mata for Lingard because I'd prefer creativity of speed to break down an organized defence, although Lingard on for Mata at around 70mins will give both speed and creativity a chance.
Though with Martial on the left speed will be present throughout the match. I can see Fellaini coming on for Carrick at the hour mark or so. Last change would be Rooney of course...but I'd prefer someone else.

    Herrera Carrick Pogba
    Mata Ibra Martial

Here is to a 2-1 win.

I don't know the stats, so I may be talking shite, but aren't most of their goals scored from headers? If so, I do fancy our chances of keeping a clean sheet today. We seem well orgamsised at the back for those pinging crosses into our area. Rondon is a handful but he's not prolific in front of goal (hat trick aside last week).
They won't be having a go at us and will try on the break so an early goal and it will open up the game nicely.

They're good at set-pieces and we're not that good when defending them, so that is really my only worry.

We NEED to start Martial in this game. I will be fully confident with Martial, Pogba, Ibrahimovic and Mata etc starting. If Mkhitaryan was fit I'm certain we'd win this game. We can't go with Mata, Rooney, Ibrahimovic in a 3 man attack, the lack of pace is too much and so clear.

Not had the best of luck at the Hawthorns over the last few years, in fact, I'm pretty certain we haven't won in four.

Gotta dominate and hope Ibra can bully their defenders. Defo need more pace in the team tonight.

Fatigue is no excuse for this one, this is their third game in a week as well and we have a much deeper squad. We should be lining up with a high energy, well rested team that will outrun and outlast them.

Valencia/Lingard/Martial/Rooney should all be buzzing for this.

The good run has to end soon.

    Our good run, of course.

If we win this we're guaranteed to be at least 4 points from 4th, if City lose then it would be 3.
