    Did he say, " I've been left out." or was it along the lines of, " the cnut's left me out."
    Unless it's an authorized interview, I don't think it really matters. Mourinho just hates that kind of disturbance, even more on the day of the game. But maybe it will be nothing…

    MEN saying Martial in the squad. In that case, I expect him to start.

    I don't get how a semi-unfit 47 year-old comic can run 43 marathons in 52 days but a professionally honed footballer can't play 4.5 hours of football over 9 days??

    Championship teams have a rigorous schedule and they just seem to get on with it. All this talk about the players being tired. I can understand the case for Ibra to some extent. Jose in his pre-match talking about Chelsea and Liverpool having it easy not being in Europe then in the next sentence saying if we go on a run we can get top 4. What is the point?

    I'm no sports scientist but how long does it take for a footballer's body to 'reset' itself? Genuinely would like to know.

    Anyway, still think we'll beat West Brom today. Having Tony V. back will be a big boost and hopefully Tony M. can justify his reported comments by putting in a great performance and making it hard for Jose to leave him out. Think they will score but we will score more.

    Spell it.
    Sigh.

    First of all let's dispel this myth of yours about players not being allowed to give interviews, that's only in your mind. Just recently Miki gave an interview and talked about his beginning to the season, spell on the bench etc.

    Secondly Media twist words anyway they can in order to get clicks and readers, however someone smart enough would/should try looking beyond any clickbait sensational headers or whatever written in most papers and see things for what they are.

    Martial interview was in no way negative or any such but half the posters have bought into it because the papers baited them into it.

    Saying that being benched is frustrating and implying to change that is anything but negative for any player whom great things are expected from by both the manager and fans.

    Because an impact sport is different to an endurance event

    Have you seen the state of a runner's feet after 43 marathons?? And I would argue that their joints would be affected by the impact of all that running. Plus the obvious fatigue that a lot of people are whinging about.

    All that is very well, but the guy who chooses the players has been saying in the press conferences how a player who's left out has to keep the mouth shut, giving Mkhitaryan's recovery as an example. Mkhitaryan gave the interviews after he was recovered, not while he was being benched.

    It really doesn't matter if the player is complaining or not, gave some positive or negative feedback. If he's uncomfortable on the bench and gives interviews instead of (or even when) working really hard, Mourinho won't take it lightly. Not saying it's fair, it's been this particular manager's way for a long time.

    I'm not even saying Martial won't feature, I think he should. I'm just wondering about the reason he was left out after having at least one great game (West Ham) and was apparently starting to pick up form. And I'm also looking for a possible justification if he's out of the team again, when due to the absence of Mkhitaryan, we need him so much. But I guess you can be like those in Mkhitaryan's thread who were hiding the head in the sand for several weeks.

    Going to be a tough day at the office. Wouldnt be surprized if we drop points.

    Because nobody cares if a semi-unfit 47 year old is running at his top speed across 43 marathons.

    The physical demands are also very different in terms of the twists, turns, sprints, fast stops that are required of the players. Never mind the recovery time after the usual bumps and bruises of an impact sport.

    I'm no sports scientist but how long does it take for a footballer's body to 'reset' itself? Genuinely would like to know.

    Mourinho's basic rule of thumb is that he wants three days between games. Day 1 - recovery, light training, massages, rest. Day 2 - training. Day 3 - light pre-match training/technical prep. And of course that assumes that we don't have travel/accommodation issues that disrupt the players' rest/sleep or their pre/post match food and warm up/down routines.

    Hence he's not too fond of Thursday/Sunday or Wednesday/Saturday schedules. Presumably he's not that impressed by our New Years one of Saturday/Monday either. But at least everyone's in the same boat at this time of year.

    This.

    Jose talked a lot about their size, physicality and threat at set pieces. I wonder if he might go for this.

    No way. One criteria now that United's in a good run is to disrupt the team the least possible. We're not doing it for a mid table team, it would be depressing, really.

    I'm not saying I'd like it but Jose has a history of being cautious, I just have a horrible feeling that the mop awaits us when the team is announced.

    Cautious against Liverpool, Chelsea away or even City at home, it's understandable. This wouldn't. It would send all the wrong signs to a team which is just starting to feel a little pride. It's a fragile thing, you can disrupt it like that.

    But the fact you mentioned earlier could justify picking dreadful Fellaini, for instance.

    Hoping we go for a bit more pace on the wings this evening. Two of Rashford, Martial or Lingard would be what I'd like to see.

    West Brom have are very defensively organised. To disrupt that organisation, we're going to need pace and running in behind.

    Lingard, Rashford and Mkhitaryan are the best, in my opinion, at doing that in our squad. Obviously the latter is injured, so I wouldn't be surprised to see the former two start, like against West Ham.

    That said, Mourinho did talk about the set pieces and physicality of West Brom, which is why I also wouldn't be surprised to see Martial in for Lingard, as he much more physical and taller than Jesse, meaning a wing pairing of Martial (left) and Rashford (right).

    No point in debating this with you. You are far too ignorant about both sports

    This is one of the worst excuses. People are putting down Chelseas run solely on the fact that they are not in Europe. It's almost like managers stumble into their jobs and find out if they are in Europe or not mid way through the season. Football is a squad game and its the job of the manager and coaching staff to manage, utilise and get the best out of the squad over the course of the season. Too many excuses these days.

    I'd hope to see Ibra, Martial and Mata as the front three today.

    It's not about being cautious, but we have to counter their strengths.

    My predicted lineup:

    Rashford==Zlatan==Lingard

    ====Pogba==Herrera===
    ======Carrick=======

    Darmian=Rojo=Jones=Valencia

    I regret not having Fellaini in there as I have a strong feeling he will play.

    Confirmed United squad
    Here’s the players who arrived at the Hawthorns:

    Jones

    Johnstone

    Rooney

    Carrick

    Young

    Rojo

    De Gea

    Blind

    Herrera

    Darmian

    Valencia

    Smalling

    Lingard

    Martial

    Romero

    Rashford

    Fellaini

    Ibrahimovic

    I think it's a toss up between Fellaini and Lingard.

    Then Martial should start.

    One outfield player to miss out
    As usual, that is a 20 man squad that travelled to West Brom. Sam Johnstone travels as a third keeper, so one outfield player from that list won’t make the match day 18.

    Memphis, Schneiderlin, Schweinsteiger and Fosu-Mensah have been left behind in Manchester together with the injured trio of Bailly, Mkhitaryan and Shaw.

    Enjoying watching games again this season , really need to win though to stay in touch with the teams above .

    Think we'll bang a few in against these mugs and run out 0-3 or 1-4 winners. Good time to get a result too with arse city and the Mersey filth on Monday.

    Schneiderlin and Memphis are out of this club. Shame cause I think Memphis has real talent if only he'd got some gametime. Fellaini: Can he please leave the club so I don't have to support him anymore
