That bench is just ridiculous, I know it's because of all our injuries but god damn.
Nick Powell and Borthwick Jackson. Good to see we're giving youth a chance, but not in a game of this magnitude. It is enforced on LvG by injuries, but then you wonder why the squad was so small to start with.

Having to win away in Germany to progress in the CL. Nightmare scenario with a full team.

Thought Carrick would surely play. Disappointing as he is by far our best passer in midfield. Also disappointing because Fellaini is useless in midfield. Front 4 is fun though. Thought Young would start ahead of Varela, but Varela is a right back so it's better I guess. Let's hope they all perform. If not, basically up top Pereira, Young and Carrick to do something from the bench.

I just took a proper look at the bench. :nervous: We are going to need the starting 11 to get it done.

No Carrick and Varela over Young is very surprising.
We completely lost the midfield at home when BFS was subbed off and Carrick was out injured.

I imagine Louis doesn't want to lose the last 30 minutes again so will bring Carrick on for BFS to maintain some control on the game.

Not too pleased with that 11 but mad Louis knows best.

I'll stick with my 2-1 loss.

Any chance it'll be a 4-3-3 like last season?
    De Gea
    Varela Smalling Blind Darmian
    Schweiny
    Fellaini Mata
    Lingard Martial Memphis
Probably just the normal 4-2-3-1 though, only question is Mata, lingard or Memphis in the hole. They'll all rotate though at least. Or should so it should be fluid going forward.

That speaks of a bigger problem if true, we should have a top CM to do that for 90 minutes 2 games a week.

Maybe its due to the expectations but if United go out tonight it wont hit me as hard as previous seasons.
Maybe its the rebuilding phase and a promise of better to come but i'm either strangely confident or slightly nonplussed.
That front 4 is as good as we can get it btw, Mata should have more room in midfield like in the first leg when he cut in and tore them to pieces. Expecting big things from Juan tonight

Good team, I like the attacking 4. We might actually score a goal...

For me, one holding midfielder would be enough. We should stop playing so defensive.

Wouldn't shock me if Fellaini isn't further forward than people think. Looks like the ball might be coming in from wide a lot and Fellaini is the natural choice if that's what you want to do. Maybe Mata dropping a bit deeper?

When most people are happy with our lineup, we invariably lose. Therefore, I am taking it as good omen that so many are disappointed with the lineup.

They're injured. Otherwise between Schneiderlin/Carrick/Schweinsteiger/Herrera we have enough to rotate and keep it a top midfield every week.

Decent team. Fellini has to be careful with his challenges, cut out the dirty stuff. Expect to see Carrick in the second half for Bastian.

    We can win this.

I think thats the best lineup we could have fielded tonight but Varela needs the game of his life.

I don't see how much Fellaini can bring that Pereira would not have been able to. Disappointing really.

Carrick and Schweini are the only 2 that can control a game, and I don't see much sign of LvG seeing Herrera as a CM, he prefers him as a #10 or even on the right.

We'll go out and the Caf will go into meltdown tonight.

Our starting XI is more comparable to an average team not european elite. which begs the question where did that 250m go and why did we spend it in this way?

van gaal will be gone at the end of the season if we dont reach the next round imo.

A lot of it is sat at home injured.

Wolfsburg's lineup is so average. We should be winning this. Time for Van Gaal to prove his mattle.

That's a shocking starting eleven for a club of our size, I'd be amazed if we managed a win in Germany tonight.

Van Gaal left the squad far too small.
