    Can't see anything outside of;

    DDG

    Valencia
    Smalling
    Jones
    Young (Possibly Shaw)

    Matic
    Pogba

    Sanchez
    Lingard
    Martial

    Lukaku

We'll need Sanchez and Lingard for their energy and pressing at all times, it's an important match but it's not the end of the world if we drop points, that said I think we'll go for the win.

If he wants to incorporate Martial, Lingard and Sanchez in the lineup, which I think he should, then he cant play three at the back. We will also forced to be a bit more attacking away from home.

Yeah think something like that would be best. Could go with 4-3-3 with Herrera in midfield too and drop one of the front 4.

Yeah wouldn't shock me to see either of Martial or Lingard dropped just for this match.

Dropping either Lingard or Martial would be a bit of a poor decision really, they are both in excellent form, so both should start.

Tactically it makes sense, an open midfield against a team who likes to play through the middle is a very bad idea.

Let me ask you, why are we a better defensive setup?

    A) Do we have world class defenders?
    B) Do we face quality opponents every other game and still defend better
    C) Our tactical system helps us defend well

From what I believe, its the system that makes them look better. The same defence under LvG was shite. And now, you want to abolish those tactics to shoehorn all attackers so that we play squash buckling football at a big away game.

    Jose ain't that naive.
We had one of the best defensive record in the league under Van Gaal. What are you on about?

In fact I believe we had the joint best defense in tge league along with Tottenham.

I don't that that it would be an open midfield, but I guess that we will have to wait and see.

How good is our team.

Would like to see a Rojo/Jones pairing in the centre to give us that better stability and pressing from the back.

That didn't mean we had the best defense at this time. It means we had the best GK. Anyone who saw this season will understand what I mean here.

Some times when some talk about LVG second season I got the feeling they were watching other season than the one every body else saw. Talks about "we were level with City" or "we had the best defense" is something you'll only say if you just saw the numbers not the games themselves.
Exactly my point! I quoted a few 'important' games, where we conceded loads of goals but all I got was 'we had the best defence' with people just focusing on stats. The amount of times DDG bailed us out, leading him to become our POTY twice. Last season, he didn't had to do much because our defence was actually pretty good.

I see your point but Rojo concedes too many free kicks, and Eriksen is deadly.

Smalling also has liabilities so yeah it's a 50/50 there. I just think if we need to be on the attack, which would be the best way to go against Spurs, Rojo is miles better at giving us that option, along with Jones.

There's zero chances Smalling doesn't start this, unless injured.

Also true. If you could guarantee me a Rojo performance where he wasn't rash I'd take him every single time.

This is a huge game considering the league positions. A win tomorrow will pretty much guarantee a top four finish and CL football next season. It would take a lot of pressure off before the starts back up.

A win tomorrow would guarantee at least a third place finish never mind just a top four place.

In all reality we will finish second quite comfortably I feel, with the rest of the teams fighting over the other two Champions League places.

A draw seems an acceptable result and would keep us in second.

City look unlikely to wobble, but if we keep winning we can apply some pressure on them to keep performing until the end. Fail to win this one and we will lose that hope.

Aside from that, it's not the end of the world in terms of our league position, our top 4 position if we drop points.

It will be a great test for us to measure how good we really are right now against a side who are being regarded as 'the second best team' in the league by many of the media. Would be good to smack that down for the next few months with a win.

Interestingly, Mourinho said explicitly Sánchez has “multifunctionality” and “can play in 4 different positions”.

Apparently, Harry Kane mentioned recently Smalling is his toughest defender he faced.:p

Pochettino speaking about making 4th place this season would be a “massive achievement”?

Why would you wish to see our top scorer dropped?

We could do with all of our important players playing their part in this game.

Jose seems to have figured Poch out, does well against him usually. For that reason, I'm going 2-1 to us.

Because Martial and Lingard are playing better than Lukaku at the moment?

I like Lukaku, and I'm not part of the Martial-brigade, but right now, Martial is probably our best finisher. When he gets a chance in and around the box, he tends to rifle them in, same goes for Lingard. Lukaku seems to miss 2 or 3 big chances a game at the moment.

    Would love to see.....

    DDG

    Valencia
    Smalling
    Jones
    Shaw

    Matic
    Pogba

    Sanchez
    Lingard
    Rashford

    Martial

    Will more likely see....

    Valencia
    Smalling
    Jones
    Young

    Matic
    Pogba
    Herrera

    Sanchez
    Martial

Fair enough, I can't say that I agree with your assessment of Lukaku, but for me he is our top scorer, and in important matches such as this one, we should be looking to play are big players of which he is most certainly one of them.

So I hope and I expect to see him starting the match tonight.

Him linking up with Martial, Lingard, Sanchez, and Pogba to me s something that I can't wait to see!

I agree with you in theory, but tactics will take precedent over form (as they should). If Jose feels we need an extra midfielder in there then he'll put an extra midfielder in there, no matter what we think.

That said, I reckon Lingard could play a slightly more withdrawn role reasonably well, so it might not be an issue.

Not sure why but i'm starting to think that Mourinho may decide to hold Alexis 7 back for this to come on from the bench if needed, and start with:

    Herrera Matic Pogba
    Mata Lukaku Martial

    Mata ahead of Lingard??

Sanchez will surely start this match, we didn't buy him or swap him to start him on the bench in big games!

We are not Arsenal! We don't start our number seven on the bench!

Tactics will of course play a huge role, but Lingard is just the prototype José player, he does everything that José asks of him and more, so for that reason alone, nevermind his cracking record at Wembley, I think that he will.start.

It's not the team i'd select, i'd unleash Hell(Alexis, Lingard, Rashford, Lukaku and Martial) on Spurs, but Mourinho is more a horses for courses type of guy, he'll defo start three in midfield, Mata has started the last 7/8 League games and done nothing wrong so will stay in, Lukaku is coming back into form, and Martial will probably get the nod over Rashford.

Can't complain at having Alexis, Rashford and Lingard on the bench primed and ready to come on if needed.

5 games, 5 wins, no goals conceded, why change a winning team ?

Alexis has been bought for the next 4 years, so plenty of big games to come.....

We would start with Herrera in MF along with Matic and Pogba for 4-3-3 Sanchez at wide right.Lingard to come from bench.
Not sure between Young or Shaw who would played at LB.

Not a fecking chance. He’s our most creative player.

Mata never starts in big games no matter how good his prior form is so that's a no go. Sanchez already had his debut and over a week of training, he's also a cert to start as he's fully fit and our best player now. The only question is whether we'll do a midfield 3 with Herrera (imo we should), or Lingard starts like he has been lately.

I think Martial starting hinges on whether we start with a midfield 3. Sanchez, Lukaku, and Lingard are all certain to start.

Martial's scored in each one of our last three league games and was rested completely vs Yeovil though. I just can't see him not starting this.

Pretty sure it'll be Young. My only doubt for a place is whether Fellaini will come into the lineup. I haven't got him in my team but can't shake off the feeling that there was a reason he was not in the squad v Yeovil.

The notable outfield players that weren't in the 18 vs Yeovil were Valencia, Jones, Pogba and Martial. I'd say Martial starting is definite
