Yeah, I am aware of that. I haven't watched Spurs much recently except from highlights, so I was under the assumption they were still using the back 3 system.
The last time they've used it, except for the Newport game, still without Alderweireld, was in November!

Agree with that except martial on the left and sanchez in the right/centre. If things arent going too well weve got lingard on for herrera to change things up

Lingard should be starting this match, no way should he be on the bench, he is deadly at the moment.

That's it for me, although I disagree about Herrera and would be tempted to start him instead of Jesse. Either way, that's a decent bench as well that.
Yeah, the main reason I think it will be Jesse is because of who actually played against Yeovil. If you look at those 11 starters, not a single one of them played anything close to 90 minutes, bar Sanchez who played 70 but hadn't played in over two weeks prior. Freshness.

We are in terrible for with a flu seemingly going round the squad. I'm not looking forward to this game, don't think you will wallop us but we are struggling to score goals.

If things aren't going their way, expect the Spurs "hardmen" Dier, Dembele and Dele to start kicking lumps out of our players. The three dildos. One of the dirtiest teams in the league.

I want to beat them but I think the most important thing is to escape from this game relatively injury-free.

    Can see, on paper:

    Valencia--------------------------------Smalling-------------------------------Jones---------------------------------------Young

    -----------------------------Herrera---------------------------Matic----------------------Pogba-----------------------------------

    ---------------------------------------------------------------Sanchez--------------------------------------------------------------

    ----------------------------------------Lukaku------------------------------------Martial-------------------------------------------

Which, when on the attack, will turn into something like this:

    -----------------------------------------Smalling--------------------------------------Jones-----------------------------------------------

    --------------------Herrera--------------------------------------Matic--------------------------------------------------------------Young

    Valencia-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Pogba-------------------

    ----------------------------------Lukaku-----------------------Sanchez---------------------------------Martial----------------------------

    Just returned as in today?
Unless Poch is desperate I would say half of those have a chance of starting tomorrow.

Expect us to be cautious. It's a must not lose rather than a must win. We've not best Spurs away in 5 years.

To be fair, it sounds like Lamela has just had a sore ass.

I'd expect them to all be involved tomorrow.

Alderweireld won't play, but Lloris and Eriksen will. I'd say Davies will start instead of Rose, if only to save the latter for Liverpool.

So, without Alderweireld, still think Pochettino will go for 3 at the back, with Dier probably?

Another thing, do you see Eriksen operating more to the right and Son to the left, or the opposite?

Am I missing something, or where is Lingard??

    1st question: don't know.

2nd question: Eriksen more to the right and Son the left.

I think we will go for a back 3 and martial Sanchez lukaku front 3.
Right now, it's hard to drop Lingard in 4-2-3-1/4-3-3, but nearly impossible in 3-4-1-2, really.

I expect Spurs to go 4 at the back:

Pretty much the same team we have been playing.

Exactly, we have a far better defensive set-up, and not to mention goalkeeper, so what Liverpool did against Spurs will have zero impact in how we do against them.

Not quite sure why people thought to bring that match up here.
Let me ask you, why are we a better defensive setup?

    A) Do we have world class defenders?
    B) Do we face quality opponents every other game and still defend better
    C) Our tactical system helps us defend well

From what I believe, its the system that makes them look better. The same defence under LvG was shite. And now, you want to abolish those tactics to shoehorn all attackers so that we play squash buckling football at a big away game.

    Jose ain't that naive.

We had one of the best defensive records under Van Gaal. We just have good players at the back but yes obviously the system is good too.

Pretty much the same team we have been playing.
Aurier is one of those who doesn't seem to have recovered.

I was under the impression, and GlastonSpur confirmed it, that Eriksen would tend to the right while Son would go leftwing.

I have never said that sentiments should be brought into this so not quite sure where you have got that from, what I have said however is that you should play players whilst they are bang in form and full of confidence, in regards to Rashford, since you brought him up, yes he scored past Yeovil, but his form overall is not as good as those that he is competing with for a starting place.

We have the players to really hurt opposition sides, and not just that, they are are full of confidence as well, so we should let them do so!

Surely we should play to our strengths, and that is with our formidable attacking line-up, the likes of which no other team in the league can boast of having?!

It just makes sense to see how they can interchange with each other, and become very fluid.

Not wishing to see Sanchez start, or Martial, or Lingard is pretty strange really, they all deserve to start, and I hope that they do.

Also one point, what exactly is wrong with wishing or hoping to see us put out best team out for this? Should I instead be hoping to see us put out a rubbish side?
So seemingly unlike yourself, I do hope that José buys into it, and does play our best team in this match, as Spurs despite their league position are still a darn good side, so we will have to take them deadly seriously, and I have a feeling that José will do so.
Because according to you, best lineup means best personnel in the positions. For me, the best team is which would provide the best output with the employed tactics.

You have failed to answer as to how much our team would be balanced. Don't expect it anyway.

At least someone else understands that no-one should be looking to drop or not start with Lingard!

He is simply a key player and has to start!

Against quality opponents? No. Conceded 3 at spurs, 3 at arsenal, 2 against pool in EL, 3 against Wolfsburg, 3 against important game at West ham.
We played good against a poor Chelski, and Mancity but that defence was made look good, whenever it did.

You're all over the place here. You're arguing against the quality of our defensive set-up saying it's our system that makes them look good?
What do you think defensive set-up means if not a system?

The best lineup is the team which has the best chance of winning, and I don't see how a team with the players mentioned would not have a darn good chance of doing so.

Our team would be balanced as the players would to quote The Rock here "know their roles", we would have the protection that Matic would offer us, combined with the defensive structure behind him, and the offensive players ahead of him, coupled with the pressing that would inevitably be involved from the likes of Lingard, Sanchez, and Pogba.

It is quite simply a very good side, not quite sure why people are so against seeing it put out.

Ahh just heard that Aurier is out - well Trippier will start then. Son is two footed so he will move from either wing throughout the match with Eriksen mostly working behind Alli and Kane all over the pitch.

I made that point because we were discussing about balance. I think with a 2 man mid, our defensive system is a bit compromised. Thats what I feel.

EDIT: Also, i was talking about our defenders made to look good because of the system.

Away to Spurs, probably need a midfield 3. Lingard isn't as good as Martial or Sanchez or Lukaku.

He might not be "as good", but he is bang in form, and hence deserves or warrants a starting place in the big games of which this is one of them.

Martial is also bang in form. Sanchez and lukaku will start every game, and then we need to go to a midfield 3. There's very few players who are immune to being dropped to the bench even if they're in good form, the fixture is the most important after all. Away to spurs is definitely a game that needs us to go to a midfield 3 and free up Pogba a bit.
