    That's an awful argument. It only played well when it was made to look good? What? We had one of the best defensive records in the league. That's all there is to it.

    United in 2009 had the best defence in the world. Still conceded 4 to Liverpool at old Trafford. We lost 4-0 to Chelsea last season. List can go on. All that matters is totals at the end of the season when judging overall defence.

    Ya i kind of agree, got a bit carried away.

    But still i think jose has improved it much more and that's because of the tactics.

    EDIT: All those games were pretty crucial as well, point being made that we kind of crumbled in most of the important games in a single season. But fair play, that was an awful argument.

    Of course Martial is bang in form, hence why I think he should be starting, if he was not in form, then I could understand people dropping him or not selecting him, but that currently is not the case.

    No Lingard in his current run of form does seem rather strange, swap him for Herrera, and that would be a much better lineup.

    @RedRom lingard should start, I believe Martial will get dropped. That's just a hunch, we will see what happens tomorrow.

    I hope neither Martial nor Lingard get dropped! They are both fantastic players in great form, and we will need as many of those players to beat a very good Spurs side.

    Will be interesting to see what happens between Young and Alli after their mini fight at OT.
     
    Are we going to go three at the back against them again or what? Gone three at the back against most top sides this season but I would prefer to see @nemanja15 line-up above. The alternative I guess would be Lingard/Martial dropping out for Lindelof in defence.
     
    Lingard over Martial?? Not a chance. Martial's the 5th name we should see on the team sheet after DDG, Sanchez, Pogba and Lukaku. Not saying Lingard's been excellent recently but Martials just so much better.

    It's still a great dilemma to have though. :)

    Neither Lingard nor Martial should be starting this match on the bench, they should be starting it out on the pitch.

    This is true, but it was mainly down to DDG.
    The guy used to make save after save after save. This is why he managed to get POTY for 3 seasons in a row.
    Once Jose arrived, our defense improved, so DDG did not have to make so many saved and last season did not win the POTY award.

    I used to watch us under LVG and the opponent rarely had the ball, but when they got it, they used to cut through our defense like a hot knife through butter.

    That didn't mean we had the best defense at this time. It means we had the best GK. Anyone who saw this season will understand what I mean here.

    Some times when some talk about LVG second season I got the feeling they were watching other season than the one every body else saw. Talks about "we were level with City" or "we had the best defense" is something you'll only say if you just saw the numbers not the games themselves.

    Always entertaining games between us. I honestly have to say I haven't felt this excited in a while when it comes to United. Squad seems to be at a good place, Mourinho extended his contract, Several of our players are in decent form and we signed Sanchez. Looking forward to a good game from us and hopefully a good result. I'm not saying we're going to win just got a feeling we'll play with a bit more confidence and flair.

    I'd be happy with a draw if we play well, things are finally starting to click at the club and I just got that feeling that any club in the PL would struggle with us tomorrow. I really don't underestimate you guys and think you have the best team you've had in a long while but you know when you just got that feeling as a fan? Well first time I've got it since SAF left.

    Been very hit and miss, had a great Christmas but have dropped silly points. I wont hide away lol I will be on here for all the abuse.

    Oh yes, and it has been great to see him have this journey , and come out the other side in fantastic form.

    It shows with a bit of perseverance and hard work what can be achieved.

    The problem with Van Gaal is we were boring as feck and had basically no attacking direction, like the numbers back up. We finished level with City yes, because they were also shit, just like pretty much every "big" team was that year. For that season, yes we had one of the best defences in the league. Just because Van Gaal wasn't a roaring success doesn't mean that every single part of his tenure was a failure. He was awful to watch, but for the most part, we were pretty solid at the back. Yes De Gea saved us a lot, but we still conceded one of the fewest shots per game and big chances per game and all that.

    No we didn't have one of the best defenses in the league unless you're taking numbers only.

    We were keeping the ball a lot with sideways and back passing without taking risks so this decreased the number of shots on us, however every time the opponents get the ball and attack us we were praying for De Gea to save us. Not a singe game has passed without at least 2 certain goals were saved thanks for David.

    This isn't called having one of the best defenses. It's called having the best GK and there's a big difference between this and that.
