Sunderland 0-2 Man Utd (Rooney, Van Persie)

0-2 with that team. I can not see that happening as much as I want it to.

Just for comparison, we are going to be playing against Jack Rodwell, Lee Catermole and Sebastian Larsson in Sunderlands midfield 3, led by Gus Poyet.

Yeh, just in general, I have Anderson over Fellaini. He is a far better footballer.

I think Anderson is a far better player technically, but his fitness and covering ground has been really poor in recent seasons.

True but Fellaini doesn't give us much energy or distance covered either. I am in the minority but Anderson any day over Fellaini for me. And that's not bashing Fellaini, I was over the moon when he scored against Valencia to shut the booing up.

    Fair enough.

We all joke about Anderson, but to be honest, he was great in that little run of form around November and December time in 2012/13, until he got injured against Reading right after he scored. He was putting in very good performances consistently for those 2 months or whatever it was, up there with anything we've seen in our midfield for the past few years IMO (after Carrick of course). He was obviously out on loan last season and it looked like his time here was over but if he suddenly got past the injuries and could stay fit, I'm sure he'd become a good player because he has the attributes for it. He's quick, strong, a good passer, good at running with the ball. The chances of him getting over the injury problems basically impossible though, he just can't stay fit whether its because he's indisciplined or something else. At his best which we have seen a handful of times in the last 7 years or so, he's arguably our best or second best midfielder really. That's not huge praise but he's definitely way more talented then Fellaini, or Cleverley for that matter.

At his best, Anderson would be the our best midfielder hands down (better than even Carrick or Herrera). But he is very rarely at his best.

I'm not worried for the slightest.. Our big guns will get us the three points and off the mark.. RVP will be gunnin' from the start and O'Shea and Wes don't have a chance.

We're winning this 1-3. RVP with two goals. Rooney with one. Tyler Blackett with an assist

With no Herrara I'd like to see Kagawa play in CM. Surely it's a better option than Cleverley.

Really worried about this team. Have to get behind them but we look weak bar the keeper and strikers.
Alex really left us a weak team and were not doing great in these windows.
How fabregas went to Chelsea I'll never know, he's was our I was 100% certain, were meant to have £200 million, liverpool city Chelsea and arsenal have got stronger, were going to need rvp and ronney to bale us out so much this year

We're going to get turned over. Injuries galore and we haven't done enough to ensure the squad has adequate cover.

our away form was pretty good last season relatively speaking

Im not sure what to expect from this

we look likely to concede soft goals

we have undeniable quality in RVP, Mata, Rooney but do we have the pace

My prediction is 1-2 to us but we need Valencia/Young to have good games and provide plenty of pace and service

It's nice hearing about philosophy and all, but the fact is that we will have Fletcher and Cleverley in midfield tomorrow. That is just truly fecking awful. No manager on the planet could get those two playing exciting, innovative stuff. They'll both get played off the park by Lee Cattermole.

Even in his worst form, he is capable of a lot more than cleverly surely!!!
    PLAY KAGAWA

He's been just as if not more, disappointing as Cleverley. He's been with us for more than two seasons, been given numerous chances and has yet to impress although I do hope he proves me wrong but don't give us the old 'he warrants a place ahead of Cleverley' crap...It's pure delusion.

Injuries tend to weaken a team you know. Fetcher and Celeverley are comfortably better than that tramp Cattermle anyway, calm yourself down.

Didn't say otherwise regarding injuries, just that our current midfield pair is shite. Cleverley is a wuss and he will go missing.

Not sure if this has been posted:

Could see that from the training pics anyway, but just LVG confirming they are back.

got to be this line up for me if these players are available, and assuming were sticking with 3-4-1-2

    .....................De Gea..........................

    ...........Jones....Evans....Blackett............

    Rafa.........Fletcher....Cleverley......Januzaj

    .........................Mata..........................

    ...............Rooney......Van Persie.............

I think a disciplined Fletcher and Cleverley could actually work, Herrera with all his enthusiasm go caught out to high up the pitch, along with Fletcher at times, and Cleverley's conservative nature might actually help. This could then free Januzaj to break with purpose, and Rafa could tuck with Blackett shifting over to left back in when required to form a back 4 when Januzaj has committed himself forward.

I think all this system needs is a better understanding between the defenders in terms of their positioning depending on where the other attacking players are in front of them. Also I feel only one wing back should fully commit in each attack so we can always revert to a back 4 if we get countered. Mata of course needs to up his defensive game, at least in terms of his positioning, but as said previously, Cleverley may actually help cover the centre of the pitch more consistently.

Not sure i agree. I think, as dull as Cleverley can be, we don't need massive creativity form him with 3 central players ahead of him. What we want from him is to not let the centre of the pitch become too exposed, consistently feed the front 3, and keep the ball long enough to let the wing backs get into attacking positions where they can do damage.

You're wrong. Has he been given a chance in the number 10 role? Any time, which was rare, that he played his favoured position he has impressed. Moyes had no faith in him and treated him quite poorly. Kagawa is far superior to cleverly just as a footballer. Cleverly has had a lot of chances in his preferred role yet has failed to perform consistently.

    De Gea
    Jones Evans Blackett
    Rafael Fletcher Cleverley Young
    Mata
    Rooney Welbeck

    1-1
That line up wouldn't surprise me, but I just read that Evans probably isn't going to make the game as he has only just started training.

Bummer, as I think he is the best centre back we currently have , especially in the central position as he can bring the ball out of defence and actually start attacks, which the others are not very good at IMO.

Cleverley looked good under Martinez at Wigan and our last title winning season under Fergie, everyone apart from De Gea and Rooney looked shit under Moyes..yet Kagawa was not under Fergie he was disappointing, the love in for Kagawa is fecking ridiculous! As I said I hope he proves me wrong

    Januzaj, Welbeck werent shit.
Fair enough..it still does not back yer man's point up though. Kagawa and Cleverley should come under the same scrutiny in equal measure as both have under performed and one does not warrant a place in the team ahead of the other just because some fans favour the other more.

    If only :(

I am thinking 3-1 tomorrow. At least hoping, we need to win this and score a few to bounce back and get the confidence back Utd had in pre-season.
