Its going to be 3-5-2 again . smalling Jones and Tyler as back three. Fetcher, cleverly, young , adnan and mata as our midfielder and we might play Rooney and rvp up top. Predicting either a hard fought victory with goal to separate us or maybe even a draw

0-2 with that team. I can not see that happening as much as I want it to.
    We might get mauler
    Final prediction:

Sunderland 0-2 Man Utd (Rooney, Van Persie)
People will walk past that midfield ...

you muppets need to calm down...even if we lose tommorow its not the end of the world... the manager has said he needs time... he said it would be a slow start.. trust in his philosophies and we will soon reap the rewards. its gonna be rocky... but we will soon start to see the true way our team will play. we will be fine ... im confident

with that said.. i still think we have the quality to beat sunderland even with the injuries piled up. we are much better away from home anyway. im confident the team will come out guns blazing tomorrow and with full confidence after the early jitters last week.

    DDG
    Valencia Smalling Jones Blackett Young
    fletcher kagawa
    mata
    rvp rooney

based on what we have available i think this may be lvgs starting 11.

This is what Sunderland are going to do through are midfield tomorrow. Good to see RVP back as he can make the difference, I think it's going to be like us in SAF's final year, we will play bad and RVP will score the winner. While the midfield looks poor it be great for us to play well after the Swansea match but I would take a scrappy win 1-0 or 2-1

no need for shitty gif. Just say it.

Anyone know the last time we lost the first two games of a season? I can not remember that happening since 1997.

Which is exactly why we're using 3 at the back. They aren't smalling/jones/Evans have proved during their united careers that they as of now haven't been good enough forming partnerships between them. Putting 3 central defenders makes it easier for them, it just takes time.

Exactly. Hollands defense is on paper very poor but they only conceded two goals from open play in the whole tournament, one of which was a screamer from Cahill and a bit unlucky on Hollands part. It also made Vlaar(their only truly experienced CB) look world class. With our current CB options, it is the right system. The only qualm that I have with the 3-5-2 myself is that it isn't that fun to watch. LVG said I think in the interview with Neville that there is usually only 15 yards between each CB, restricting space for the other team to exploit. Also, when the opposition have the ball, our wing backs are essentially defenders , too.

As much as I hope this would happen, I really can not see this happening. I hope I have to eat my words here. I really do.

    92/93 was a poor start I think??

Yes. We lost the first two games whilst playing a lot of youngsters and the media was absolutely slaughtering us. Calling Fergie delusional whilst printing titles like 'you can't win the league with schoolboys'. Funny how it all turned out though!

Does van Persie being fit enough for match day squad automatically equate to him starting? You'd have to assume so I suppose, but with Herrera out now alongside Carrick we lack quality in the middle. Might be more safe going for three in there with Rooney dropping deep, allowing van Persie to occupy the lone strike role.

Well hindsight is always beneficial. I would be very worried if I were around in 92.

    Indeed.

However, given the strength of the rivals compared to 1992 such a start would be more serious these days.

With all the injuries in our side I think this might be our best starting XI:

    De Gea
    Jones Smalling Blackett
    RafaelLIAM MILLER LIAM MILLERYoung
    Cleverley Fletcher
    Mata
    Hernandez Rooney
If van Persie is matchfit I would obviously rather see him in Hernandez place, and leave Hernandez out of the squad and give Wilson 10-15min of the bench if things are going our way.

    0-2.

I'll go for a tight 2-1 win. Rooney & Mata to get the goals, one in each half.

If Evans is not available, and Rvp is fit to start, I would go for this:

    ----------------De Gea---------------
    -------Jones----Smalling----Blackett----
    Rafael----------------------------------Young
    -----------Fletcher---Kagawa-------------
    -----------------Rooney----------------
    ---------Januzaj--------Rvp------------

We need Rooney to drop a bit deeper in this game as whatever way we line up, our midfield will be overloaded against a side that plays a 4-5-1. Rooney and Kagawa interchanging as a no10 (when one is deep , the other should stay advanced). The reason I don't have mata for this game is because we need every player out there behind Januzaj and Rvp to put in a defensive shift, press and track back. Against a side like sunderland, this is important.

I'm already shocked that us winning against Sunderland is about to be considered a shock.

We should be winning matches like this 3-0 easy with van Persie eating pretzels on the sideline talking with van Gaal about their favorite Dutch movies. Instead, we're talking about how great it would be if we were to win against Sunderland. Fecking SUNDERLAND.

With our current injuries, and our failure thus far to buy another midfielder other than Herrera, it is only logical. Very depressing though. I think our defense will be fine this season seeing as we are playing 3 at the back. However, buying a hard tackling, energetic midfielder to put in front of them, would make the whole team, and especially the defense look a whole lot more effective. Why we seem to be doing absolutely nothing about it.. who knows. Incredibly frustrating. There are countless midfielders out there who would be an improvement on what we currently have.

The Sunderland midfield would most likely be Cattermole, Larsson and Rodwell. I can not say that our midfield of Fletcher and Cleverly can be competitive there. A real shame!!

What we need right is an "Ozil Effect". Remember, this time last year we'd just beat Swansea, away, 1-4 and Arsenal lost at home (to who I'm not sure) and we were all laughing. They go out and sign a world class player and everything changed, well, at least for a few months! but my point still stands.

We need to go out, sign a marquee player. Vidal, di Maria, either one would lift the team, or maybe both! :p Fact of the matter is, we most def need a CM in the mould of Vidal.

As for the match, Sunderland won't defend and counter-attack, they'll come right at us, which will play into our advantage.

    1-3 to us.

Look what I said last week! :D

Cleverley looked good under Martinez at Wigan and our last title winning season under Fergie, everyone apart from De Gea and Rooney looked shit under Moyes..yet Kagawa was not under Fergie he was disappointing, the love in for Kagawa is fecking ridiculous! As I said I hope he proves me wrong
Cleverly has never looked good on a football pitch barring the start of fergies last season. Whos got more chances at united? Cleverly has had nine lives. Unless you are related to him I just don't see how anyone can think he is united quality. Kagawa however could be a world beater in the #10 role IF given the chance.
The love in for cleverly is fecking ridiculous!

Not sure i agree. I think, as dull as Cleverley can be, we don't need massive creativity form him with 3 central players ahead of him. What we want from him is to not let the centre of the pitch become too exposed, consistently feed the front 3, and keep the ball long enough to let the wing backs get into attacking positions where they can do damage.
Yes lets give cleverly 'another chance'.

yeah I agree. Mata is too poor defensively to track his men:devil:
