Mata needs to be dropped.End of.
It was just 1 poor game vs PSVreally, he has generally been playing well this season IMO. Though I wouldn't be against Herrera playing on the right with Rooney at the #10.

Hopefully we can start creating more chances like we have in our CL games, in the PL we aren't missing them as much as we just aren't crafting enough of them.

I'm still not sure who LvG will pick for the double pivot in midfield but despite him mentioning before that he likes to play players against their old clubs I am going with the combo that dominated Liverpool's midfield.

It is going to be the same story as last season. When other teams drop points for us to capitalize, we compliment them and drop points too. Don't think we will get a draw also from this game.

Would be a great weekend and Sunday if we can beat them, with City and Arsenal both losing, but knowing us, we will most likely draw or even lose.

If we win this we will move to 2nd place with 2 points off the leader. We must win this.

Never confident when playing Southampton, dot think we'll have enough today.
    Went for 2-1 saints.

Going to be at a wedding all frigging day with I doubt no internet on my phone.

Weddings sucks, 3 years down the line they are gonna hate each other and have boring sex. Football will remain the same, Let the wedding be, sit at home watch the game.

    Attend the wedding man.

    This

Looking at the table today the players must be fired up to get 2 points behind city. Anything but a win today could be a kick in the teeth to morale but winning could hopefully set us on our way to a real title challenge...maybe.

I like to be optimistic so come on United let's have these PSV wannabes.

Edit: despite the fact I reluctantly picked a 1-1 draw in the score predictor

Tough game but a big incentive there after yesterday's results.

    Think we'll see:

De Gea; Darmian, Smalling, Rojo, Blind; Carrick, Schneiderlin; Mata, Rooney, Depay; Martial.

    Martial
    Memphis Rooney Herrera (Mata)
    Carrick Schneiderlin
    Rojo Blind Smalling Darmee
    DDG

I am going to try and predict a few things.

We will dominate possession (and LVG will claim we dominated the game).
We will keep the ball in the final third of the pitch, for most of the match.
Southampton will park the bus and let us have possession.
Southampton will aim to hit on the break.
We will lose or at best, get a draw.

Most fans on this forum, are predicting a win for us, but logic, past form, statistics all suggest that we will come away with 0 or 1 point.

    I really want to see

    Martial
    Memphis------------Pereira
    Schweinsteiger-----Herrera
    -----------Carrick-----------
    Rojo-Blind-Smalling-Darmian

It obviously won't happen of course.

Everyone will be looking at Memphis and Martial, then Rooney is going to bag a brace from the hole and shut everyone up.

    I admire your spirit.

But, similar things were said last year about Falcao. Some people expected him to score 2-3 goals in 1 game, when he could barely score 1 goal.
I asked these people to explain the logic behind their prediction. Unsurprisingly, I received no answer.
It would be good if Rooney could start scoring in the EPL, as we desperately need goals.
To demonstrate how bad we are in attack: Leicester and West Ham have each scored 13 goals. We have scored 6. Ronaldo, a few days ago, scored 5 goals in 1 game.

I literally have 0% confidence in us winning tomorrow.

    I'll agree.
I have been confident of a win in every game we have played so far this year...even against PSV (as it was CL game and I believe we will be very strong in the CL).
But this game, unless Southampton get 2 players sent off, I can't see us winning this.
I hope I am wrong, because 3 points would come in very handy.

@sunama you're going to feel a bit silly with all of your negativity after we go on to easily beat Southampton...

I've gone with Carrick and Schneiderlin. Thinking of swapping Morgan with Basti. Decisions, decisions, decisions.

I usually don't take much notice of other teams winning or losing but I took notice yesterday and Man City lost. And at home. Not to a top 4 side.

Although early in the season, this is where we desperately need to gain points on the leaders. If we win today we are second place, 2 points behind the leaders which would be brilliant.

But..and there's a big but - I just don't see us getting the 3 points today. I don't think we have the firepower at the moment to beat southampton away from home. They will be confident.

I'm really hoping we get a bit of luck today and we take those 3 points home. P6 W4 D1 L1 would suit me fine by this point.

We'll dominate possesion but look clueless going forward. Southamton to win 2-0.

Think he's been stone average this season he keeps possession but slows us down!

If we are serious about having a go for the title we HAVE to win today with the results from yesterday. If we can go 2nd and be only two points behind city that would be great considering the media wankfest over city and how poor we have been apparently

We now know that we can gain points on City and break away from Arsenal. We need to be able to capitalize when our rivals lose.

I think it is going to be tough. As per usual we will pass it round way to much instead of going for that killer pass or shot. We will dominate possession but I reckon Southampton will snatch a goal. But hopefully we can win.

    I agree.

Them two games we dropped points on are very disappointing. Not scoring at home v Newcastle and being in the lead at Swansea and going on too lose. But that record certainly wouldn't be bad at this stage. Especially considering the points Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal have dropped so far.

It would be typical of us under Moyes and LVG to not capitalise on our rivals dropping points if we don't win this.

Which is why we won't, just can't see it. Draw at best.

Yep, hopefully we get some luck because we will make some chances, hopefully we just don't feck them up.

    lol

Rooney on current form doesn't even get in our best 11. Not that I'm suggesting that he should be dropped, however his decline is that real atm.

I can't see us winning this either tbh, that being said, all the things you have mentioned go out of the window once the whistle blows.

For good reason. You want 2 players to make their first starts Joined by another newcomer who still has to find his feet? Especially when we need goals?

Have Southampton had a hard start to this league? 5 games player and only sitting on 6 points, going of the league results alone it should be a fairly straight forward game although always silly to draw conclusions from such a small sample of games.

I think we'll win and do it fairly convincingly, everyone should be going for it that much more because it can put us close to the top spot.

All the players they sold to Liverpool never weakened them, but losing Morgan to us seems to have left a big hole.
