This time we got the Schneiderlin so perhaps we should dominate in the middle but results are really a variable under Louis van Gaal.

I wouldn't say that our results are variable.
I'd say we are extremely consistent.
Home: we usually win, but sometimes get a draw; rarely do we lose.
Away: we usually draw or lose and rarely win.

    Ah feck.

Just went to do my lineup prediction and had a look around my stats page afterwards. I'd say there aren't many who don't have this looking back at them :(:

    How is their form lately?

One win in the last 7 games with Everton being the toughest team they've faced in that run. 4 Draws, 2 losses and 1 win in total. 4 games without scoring out of those. The one positive is that they've only conceded one goal in their last four.

Still a tricky game for us. You can never predict how we are going to play in an away game.

No doubt. Considering how hard we've had to create the first goal I think their defensive record the last few games could be worrying. I think they will aim for a goalless draw in an as tight affair as possible which isn't something we thrive playing against right now.

This is what I would like to see on Sunday

    1337156_Manchester_United.jpg

Rojo at left back to not break up the Smalling - Blind partnership.
Drop Mata and play Rooney as a false nine.

Spot on line up for me. Maybe swap Darmian to left in and bring in Tony as some have mentioned but admittedly I don't know Darmians left back qualities.

Quite surprised to see people dropping Blind from Cb, he's had MOM a couple of times there and seems a good ball playing CB.

Call me negative but I don't think we'll win this. It'll be one of those typical United performances,

we will dominate possesion bore every single person watching to death then Southampton will hit us on the break and score.

After Arsenal's loss, a win here could put us in a good position. Not sure we will win though. Hoping Stoke beat Leicester so we can go clear second with three points.

Hoping that Rojo plays LB, I'd really like to see the Smalling/Blind partnership stay intact.

Southampton haven't been at their best but I doubt it will be easy, still I fancy us too narrowly win this 1-2, 0-1 maybe. My biggest concern is our lack of quality in the final third and the consistency of our attackers. Memphis is talented but very inexperienced, so is Martial although if Rooney is fit he should get the nod for the starting XI. Rooney hasn't quite lived up to our expectations this season at least in the Prem, and with Shaw injured we would be lacking a lot of speed down the left flank. Hoping that we can take our chances this time and finish them off. BFS, Carrick, Mata and Schneiderlin's absence from the Southampton team will be vital.

your negative, Southampton are not playing that well, we should beat them , not saying with ease but we should beat them.

I'm feeling like Mystic Meg today.

Therefore I'm predicting that Sir Juan Mata will be our savior in this game.

 ...and that's not a variable to you ? Let's call it wheel of fortune or Russian roulette then.

We sure are consistent but it also needs to be based on results, especially in LvG's 2nd season. I'll take typical Fergie's 1:0 away win after tough game with tricky opponent. Three points is mandatory for a supposed title challenger.

    Anyone else rooting for:

    Martial
    Memphis Rooney Mata

I think Martial's good hold-up play might buy time for Memphis and Rooney to polish up their goal-scoring boots.

    that's my prediction as well.

We struggle away from home and not seem anything to suggest that is going to change, Southampton have been poor but no doubt they will raise their game for this, I think they will win 2-0.

Yeah but it's got to the point now where you can pretty much guess how our games will play out, we are so lacklustre and lethargic in any build up play we have and Southampton will happily sit back soak up the pressure and hit us on the counter. It's what Swansea, newcastle, psv did and it worked for them.

I'm just lowering my expectations then should we win I'll be overcome with joy but I'm really not expecting to see an exciting open game.

Huge game tomorrow now. Let's get those 3 points and the season starts to look a lot more promising.

Yep, we need the 3 points tomorrow. I keep saying, as long as we re 5 points max away from the leader of the table, we have a chance at the title.

Time for some players to stand up and be counted.
    Absolutely. No fannying about tomorrow.

On another note, think when we're away we should just set up to play on the counter. We just need to win, nothing more.

I think it's Southampton that will play on the counter. Can't remember the last time we set up like that.

There isn't anything more after winning...just saying

Usually when I watch United, they play like shit and when I don't watch them and look them up in LiveScore they're winning. I got homework to do tomorrow so put your money on United. No, I'm not Bernie Madoff scamming you.

If we lose this, i think fans will turn against LVG. There has been a genuine lack of consistency in our team, we need that consistency in winning to get anywhere this season. I hope we can get that, People are frustrated by the team performance and once couple of results go, Knives will be out. LVG gets a result when he usually needs, this is that game. Hope we win, not confident at all as away i feel like we are mentally already losing.

11+ coming up. Yeah you better get down to it

Dispute that. A couple of defensive lapses has seen us concede when we've been ahead. We had chances against both Swansea and PSV but failed to capitalise. We need to convert those. We haven't been that poor and the attitude hasn't been defeatist

I can't wait until our players up front start scoring early in games and we send all those park the bus opponents home empty-handed. Martial, Memphis and Rooney will shame the Barcelona trifecta!*

    *in seven years

    de Gea
    Darmian Smalling Blind Rojo
    Carrick Schneiderlin
    Mata Rooney Memphis
    Martial

I'd try and find a place for Young. He deserves to start. Perhaps in place for Memphis. Will be a help defensively too.
