Hate to be negative after the last 15 minutes, but it worries me how much confidence affects our levels. We’re knocking it around like prime Barca now, when we looked down and out before the goal. There’s something lacking mentally.

Also the physicality. Bereton Diaz has been walking around putting in tackles like he's the big lad on a school playground with no one to set him straight.

We need to take off both Mainoo and Eriksen. Only way Southampton gets back in it is if we get a red card.

Yet again? We’ve lost 2/3 this season and finished 8th last year. They are as big a reason why as anyone else given they start every week. If they did it consistently we’d be a much better team.
Case in point right here

Damn, dozed off around 30 minutes in & just woke back up. Seems as though I've missed a few key moments.

Comms are unreal. Penalty and early save aside, don’t think Southampton actually created anything. Lots of passing, clearly seen through the stats of them having more than anyone else in the league, but when it counts we scored twice. Nothing about Ben Breretons clear elbow/shove on Mazraoui either. Best listening to the game on mute.

Good to see Bruno and Rashford making the difference yet again, just highlights why the doubters and haters are left messaging on a forum and not involved in football really.
Bruno Fernandes. The difference maker with a floaty cross. We cannot replace him

No energy. To many touches on ball. Not enough movement. Still in 2-0 lead. Can’t be to unhappy.

Shown some much needed resilience in that first half. Zirkzee, having missed a golden opportunity and barely had a touch in the opening 15, has really grown into the game. De Ligt, having been skinned early on, has made some vital interceptions and got us ahead. And can only imagine how important that goal must have felt for Rashford.

Grown into the game and now completely in charge. Can’t afford as slow start to the second half - which we’re often guilty of - get the next goal and make it easy for once.

Started very badly, onana save changed the game, we are doing well now. Hopefully this is something to build on. Would love to see 4 0 by the end.

What changes will be made in the 2nd half.
Eriksen doesn’t usually last more than 60 or 70 minutes before running out of steam.
Will he pull one of Rashford, Zirkzee or Amad off in the last 20 minutes, for fresh legs and fresh attacking options?

To be fair, we are pretty fortunate to be 2 up. Southampton have been the better team for the most part until the penalty save. The coaching staff have obviously found a weakness in how they defend set pieces as we’ve done a good job at exploiting them after the penalty. Job not done yet, this United team have made it an art for to bottle a 2goal lead last year so hopefully we can see that professional performance that sees out a win which we really want form this side.

They've put some good balls into the box that either De Ligt has defended or a player hasnt been able to get on the end of it.

I didn't want to write anything, but I saw Southampton collapsing after dominating and missing such a big chance to score. they may score in the end, but this is probably ending 1-3 or 1-4 in that case.

Onana motm already even if there is a hattrick in this game imo.

They had about 10 minutes of good play and then they’ve been a bit shit. We’ve been masterly countering them a few times as is our usual bread and butter — Rashford and Fernandes two big chance misses come to mind.

Nice to see the fanbases favourite targets in Bruno, Rashford and Onana playing a big part in this 2-0. As well as De Ligt getting off the mark also good.
    That’s not the fanbase

I agree. Mazraoui and Dalot should swap flanks.
Maz has been one of the best players on the pitch for us and you want to swap him because Dalot has been shit? Maybe Dalot should just wake the feck up.
I’m all about playing the best players in their best positions. Maz is a better footballer than Dalot.

Didnt think we played that well and were struggling to get out of our own half. A penalty save and a couple of goals, and looks like we should win this.

Anyone else think its been tactical suicide from Southampton to play such a high line against us? They seem very naive and their heads dropped completely after the penalty save - theyd looked exciting and the better team up to that point

 Not sure whether we watched the same 45minutes. Goal aside, Rashford didn't have any good scene. Bruno more or less the same. Should we assume a "positivity agenda" here?

Think the problem have had has been the midfield combination of Eriksen and Mainoo. What's becoming clear is that Mainoo isn't good defensively. So a midfield of Mainoo and Eriksen in a two man midfield struggles to put pressure on the ball.

On the ball, we're struggling to move the ball through the centre, as again, Mainoo isn't as strong positioning and acting on the ball in our defensive third. Add this to Eriksen not having the physical capabilities of making his presence felt, this then forces us to use our defenders to try and move the ball. In addition, playing deep at time due to the pressure we haven't applied in midfield, it means that our defenders are struggling to move the ball out of our half.

When we do get the ball up the pitch, we actually look good. Zirkzee and Amad are adding to our creativity, and Bruno can easily break any line.In the first few games, we relied heavily on turnovers from the press to create chances and have the ball in our half. This game is showing strengths and weaknesses. Ugarte might be a game changer both in and out of possession just on the basis of his physicality.

With way more goal involvements than any other player, yeah you're right for sure.

Despite not exactly pulling up trees on the goal scoring end, I'm liking the look of Zirkzee and feel that once he starts scoring, he might not stop.

Southampton are really lacking where it matters. They don't have enough about them, I'd be shocked if they stay up.

TNT are dreadful with the obvious bias.

If Utd win they have nothing negative to spin.

    Rashford hasnt.

Can we stop literally making shit up? It's insane how people default to thinking Rashford is bad when he's been fine.

They subconsciously expect more from him than almost everyone else, but then label him as a mid-table player.
