Sancho on the bench is a big surprise. Varane not so much since he’s only trained with the squad for a week.

Yeah my thoughts exactly and can understand where people are coming from who talk about how much gametime Grealish has already had, Lukaku probably going to start for Chelsea today as well after very little training.

We are honestly better sending Sancho on loan to Brighton or Crystal Palace.

Why bother, we should cut our losses and sell him now. He loses value with every game he’s on the bench but hopefully we can recoup 40 - 50m

spot on. Of course everyone would love to watch 'the beautiful ones' all play all the time, but rotation, fitness and keeping it fresh is what winning the league is all about.
Didnt Liverpool field the same XI for an entire season basically?

I'm not all that bothered about the starting lineup(a shame about Sancho) but its hardly rotation time. It's only the 2nd game and its only one game per week at the moment.

I'm sure had they all been fit and ready we'd have seen pretty much the same starting XI for the first four games or so.

Martial loves scoring against Soton. Come on Tony, give all these Saints hell you magnificent Red Devil. Come on United

The ole hierarchy are well defined, it could seem impossible, but Sancho and Varane will struggle to get in the first 11 for the next 2/3 months

and look what happened after that
Van Dijk got injured by Pickford injuring him? Yet they came further in the CL than us and still managed to clinch CL? Rather that than winning nothing in 4 years I'd say.

    Happy enough with the lineup.
Would have preferred Mctominay over Matic and Sancho over Martial.
Honestly don't expect Varane to be starting over lindelof until after the international break.

Looking at our bench, unless Lingard goes or he drops Mata, not sure how kids are going to get in there.
I think they'll be eased in as the season progresses. There's a lot of football games: Carabao, UCL,FA and PL. There will be opps for Amad,Hannibal, Elanga and Shola to appear. Plus the window hasn't closed yet so there could be another departure.

People moaning about Lingard forget that he finished the season brilliantly for WHU and scored in preseason as well the BCD game against Burnley. With his experience, I don't mind in the least if he comes on.

If we'd have rotated more, maybe Bruno & Rashford wouldn't have been knackered and maybe we'd have won something. Also - yeah, they had just one injury

It's not a huge surprise, was always going to be one of him or Martial coming in for James and that's it. Next week I'd guess Sancho starts.

Every year people expect new signings to be thrown in with a few offering caution and saying they'll be eased in. Every year we get the same dramatic response when they aren't thrown in to start right away. It's like it's the first time some people have seen a new signing bed in.

The VDB experience has left everyone with some scars. Bruno was thrown in right away (almost out of necessity) and it paid off handsomely. Hopefully Sancho and Varane start next week.

If we're doing alright they'll both be coming on, if we're not doing alright they'll both be coming on!

Theyre gonna win the league (Soton)

Feels like a fresh start for Martial in a way, how he plays will be very interesting.

If it happens, it will only mean we're flying.

If I'm Ole, I tell Lindelof, Matic, Martial, other players on the edge of the first team, "here's your game time, force me to pick you again with your play!" As others have said, we should have enough to beat Southampton.

However, I do think Ole gets himself in trouble at times by playing a team that's maybe 1 player too many rotated from the first XI, that has to do with some of our poor results. But he's got the right idea, hopefully he a bit more conservative this season, and of course the squad is stronger too.

Many of our fans share a similar level of delusion & toxicity as him.

And none of ours has played or managed at his level...which makes it very odd. There's basking in reflected glory, then there's just acting very entitled

We probably wouldnt have gotten there anyway if the likes if James or Van de Beek/Mata had to replace them.
