    Martial is here for the season at the very least. So having him in form would be a great bonus. I'm sure Sancho will get some minutes as a sub. I expect both Sancho and Varane to start from gameweek 3.

    Like let's think about it. Martial was out from football for like 6+ months. Only started preseason about a week and a half before Sancho.

    Sancho had a summer tournament and like 3 weeks off.

    It is fairly unlikely that Martial is fitter than him right now.

    Sancho did have some illness though. So no one can guarantee how much fitter he is. Both him and Varane are moving to a different league so I can understand the caution. But as I said, they should both be starting from next week.

    If that’s in reference to Matic, we have to be honest. We should not be getting over run by this Southampton team regardless of Matic. It’s damning on the rest of the team if we are over run.
     
    If it makes any of the melts feel a bit better, looking at the replies to Southamptons lineup on twitter, their fans are having just as much of a meltdown about their lineup :lol:

    Matic - Fred is a worry as I can't remember a match when I was happy with that midfield. I'd have liked Sancho to start too.

    Saying that we should be fine. I'm looking forward to many goals and a clean sheet.

    We will just have to agree to disagree. Martial as a Forward is much better for me and the manager because he is more complete while also scoring goals.
     
    Maybe Ole thinks Southampton will struggle v a physical striker rather than Greenwood who excels at transitions which suited the Leeds game?
     
    I don't know why you guys are complaining. That is a good team which again shows how strong our depth is.

    Just because the caf has decided Martial & Matic don't have a part to play, doesn't mean Ole agrees.
    Martial played well in the BCD match and Matic has had a full pre-season, so it's not too big of a surprise.
     
    I do agree with a lot of people here that Ole is being way overly cautious with our new signings. Grealish has played every game so far since he joined, Lukaku probably starting today after only signing last week too.

    Optimistic that Martial will come out strong today. He needs to be on top of his game.

    Great banter though, proper funny - superb stuff. Belly laugh stuff it really was.

    Anyway Utd will win a fairly tedious game 0-2/3.

    Why would Martial starting be a shock? He will start pretty much every game that Cavani is out for if Martial is fit. Greenwood I think will play far more on the wings this season still. He provides a lot of important hold up play that we lack otherwise.

    Decent team. Don't understand the meltdown really. Matic is capable of good performances as long as he's managed okay. Everyone was moaning about James last game so now Martial is in. Fair enough I get that some are disappointed Greenwood lost the striker position but he's very effective from that right side and it's likely to be a bit of a fluid situation anyway. Hopefully we see some Sancho and Varane from the bench too.

    If you'd said Cavani is perhaps too old to start as regularly as we'd like I'd have seen a rotation point, but while Martial is a good footballer his output as a #9 isn't consistent enough and I doubt Ole values him more than a clinical striker.
     
    Why McTominay is on the bench if he is injured? Put Hannibal there or someone else for that matter…
