Can't see us getting past West Ham in next round so I'd rather Shrewsbury have the glory. 1-0 to Shrewsbury.

14% of you lot are having a laugh. We're shit but not that shit. I went for 1-1. Don't even care to be honest.

LVG is going into this game knowing that absolutely nothing that happens today will help his cause. we could win 10-0 and it wouldn't change a thing.

not worries there - we won't have 10 meaningful shots!

that's actually entirely unlikely, you're right...

i don't even know why i wrote what i wrote, to be honest. "nothing will help his cause"? there's evidently literally nothing that will hurt his cause either, so by that logic lvg is an infinite, unending entity. there is no beginning, there is no end. there always has been, there always will be... LVG.

We'll win this comfortably, which will mean the pressure is suddenly off again for our hapless manager, somehow...

Still injured: de Gea, Rooney, Darmian, Fellaini, Januzaj, Varela, Jones, Young, Schweinsteiger, Rojo, Valencia, and Shaw.

de Gea, Varela, Jones, and Januzaj all have a chance to be back for Arsenal, but de Gea is the only one likely to return straight away and make much of a difference, so it's the same squad for a few weeks yet.

Herrera had a shocker in the last game, but do you play him here to both redeem himself and keep one of Carrick or Mata fresh for the return leg in the Europa League tie, or just leave him on the bench for the next three games on the trot?

Martial will probably start up front again, but there's still somehow competition on the flanks between Lingard, Memphis, Pereira and potentially even Mata.

In the FA Cup, in an Away game (even if they're the lowest ranked side left) we probably need the experience a little more than a Home game in the Europa League - however, Midtjyland is definitely the more important game for our season.

    Romero
    McNair Smalling Blind Borthwick-Jackson
    Carrick Schneiderlin
    Lingard Mata Memphis
    Martial
    ---
Henderson; Poole, Weir; Riley, Herrera, Pereira; Keane

It's amazing to say I wouldn't be surprised if we're taken to a replay, but that's how bad we are at the moment.

I agree with this line-up, although I think it's possible we might play a 3-4-3/5-4-1 formation:

    Romero
    McNair Smalling Blind
    Lingard Carrick Schneiderlin CBJ
    Mata Martial Memphis
Prediction: Either a scrappy 1-0 for us, or 0-0.

Either result would keep Van Gaal's job safe for now. A defeat and he will be sacked, with Giggs taking over temporarily for Thursday's match.

    Joel is cup tied too.

Riley played the full 90 on Saturday so won't start anyway. Poole wasn't involved at all so could have a chance of starting. All depends if CBJ is ready or not I guess.

    I think We've got a 50/50 chance of winning but there's only a 10% chance of that.

this match is like a golfer who is one foot from the hole, but has fecked up so many times in similar situations that his brain is utterly fried with anxiety about missing again.

The mood in this thread reminds me of the mood before the Stoke game where we put in our best attacking performance of the season.

If we lose to this team, it will be our lowest point as a club in at least the last 25 years.

Really hope for no more injuries tonight because a combination of a decimated squad and abject form is a recipe for total meltdown with Midge, Arsenal and Watford to come within a week.

On the flipside, I've got a feeling this quick run of games might actually help the team as they get away from the training ground. The week-long rests haven't been helping the squad so maybe this will lead to some light at the end of a never-ending tunnel.

Mitjylland are way better than Shrewsbury though.
his correction doesn't suggest shrewsbury is better. More that Midgetland is the lowest point in 25 years and now we can beat that today by losing to Shrewsbury

Normally this would be an obvious case of us trying to repair the season. We're up against piss poor opposition and should be happy we're already through. On the other hand we shouldn't let anything come between us and that last shot at the 4th spot. The importance of reaching it can not be over estimated and as long as we have the slightest of chance we should go for it. I don't think people understand just how important it is - we can't just stand there by the sideline and let years pass. We need to be in the competition and we need to get top players in NOW. A big team like Man United should be more resolut in a situation like this and force the results. Can't believe everyone is letting this happen.

it appears to be completely obvious to everyone that management/ownership are entirely comfortable with us avoiding the champions league.

A Chelsea team featuring Cech, Zouma, Cahill, Filipe Luis, Mikel, Salah, Oscar, Schurrle and Drogba just about scraped a victory in 14/15 league cup against these, so I think the FA Cup run ends here.

Balls. I didn't include him in the starting lineup but have just seen Pereira on twitter looking forward to the game. Guess that means he's starting.

    My prediction:

    • Game will be slow and neither keeper will be tested for the majority of the first half
    • Shrewsbury will take the lead just before half time
    • United get an early second half equaliser
    • United at last take the lead with less than 20 minutes to go
    • United will add a third late on
    • Van Gaal will talk about a sparkling victory as we scored 3 goals against a team in the relegation zone in League 1
    1-3

I've lumped a huge..er..fiver on Shrewsbury to win this. 10/1

I just have a funny feeling of a big cup upset tonight. Think Romero may flap under pressure from set pieces tonight and all the usual mares to have mares.

My winnings to get pissed and LvG resigning with sheer humiliation can be the only silver lining to this if true.

Can't even contemplate the thought of losing this game so i am remaining optimistic. I do get the feeling however that if they mark Martial out of the game we will have no attacking impetus whatsoever. Staying positive though and hoping for a solid victory.

I feel like I've said this about 20 times this season and been wrong each time, but it's the ideal game to give our players some confidence. Depay to score a hat trick!
