We won't lose to them. Surely we won't..

    Romero
    McNair Smalling Blind
    Lingard Schneiderlin Herrera CBJ
    Pereira
    Keane Depay

Would like us give Martial a bit of a break before he becomes the next victim.

Shrewsbury 0 - 5 United. VG for life!

Best chance of a trophy. A lot of the big teams are out. Problem is, any old team can beat us these days.

I saw the teams before the draw and couldn't make up my mind which team would I want. None of those looked easy for us, not even at home. That's how bad we are under Van Gaal.

Is there a stat man out there? Has United ever lost to Shrewsbury?
I bet there are some decent odds tonight.

Never played 'em so no record to break there, but …

    Odds (Subject to change):
    Shrewsbury: 8/1
    Draw: 9/2
    Manchester United: 2/5

    Some key stats:
    • Manchester United have lost just one of their last 45 FA Cup games against lower-league opposition, falling at home to Leeds in January 2010 (W37 D7).
    • Shrewsbury have won five and lost 14 of their 23 matches against top flight opposition in the FA Cup.
    • Shrewsbury’s last victory over Premier League opposition came back in 2003 versus Everton at home (2-1 in Round 3).
    • Manchester United have scored 19 goals in their last eight games against third-tier opposition in the FA Cup – at an average of 2.4 goals per game.
    • Shrewsbury have won all of their previous three FA Cup games; they haven’t won four consecutively in the competition since the 1990/1991 season (excl. penalties).
    • Manchester United have won the last six FA Cup fifth round ties that they have been involved in.
    • All six of Shrewsbury’s goals scored in the FA Cup this season have come in the second half of their games.
    • Wayne Rooney has scored in all of Manchester United’s previous four FA cup games, though half of those have been notched from the penalty spot.
    • The Shrews have kept five clean sheets in their last seven FA Cup games (W5 D1 L1).
There must be a record in that lot for LvG to break tonight!

If you are manutd player wanting a change of manager, do you play well a little badly ? down tools ?

    Romero
    Mensah...Smalling....Blind...Jackson
    Morgan
    Herrera........Pereira
    Januzaj...................................Martial
    Memphis

Subbed on : McNair, Lingard, Keane

Have seen on Twitter that Betfair are offering double your money to all customers on correct score markets for tonight's game - Shrews vs Utd.

It will be a very comfortable 3/4-0 win for United tonight. I genuinely feel some people on here want us to lose tonight - WTF!
Regardless of results, this season has told us that LvG will still be in charge tomorrow no matter what.
Really looking forward to this as I suspect Shrewsbury are not going to sit back and try and catch us on the counter (reports suggest their team is quite slow), so they will be up for exploiting the under confidence in the United side. We will play them off the park.

Slower than a team that hadn't played competitive football for the last 60 days – in a league that, let's face it, we should be spanking!?
Slower than a team that scores over 50% of it's goals from set pieces … but scored twice against us from open play?
Slower than a team that had lost something like 8 out of their last 10 games (before the two month break?)

… and have you watched us lately?

I don't think that people "want" us to lose as much as that they have become resigned to the fact. Which is not embarrassing … just realistic!

EDIT: Change that last sentence …
Which is not only embarrassing … but also realistic!

Ahh... I use to be so excited every game day. Now I just acknowledge the date with fatalistic expectations. Not excited to watch and really have no faith.

I mean what could possibly be worse as a fan that thinking your team is boring with no ambition?

Shrewsbury will probably want a draw to get the replay at OT to get their hands on half those gate receipts, which will make them a very dangerous opponent. I expect them to sit deep and frustrate us and catch us on the counter.

I'm going for a 2-0 win because every time we hit a new low we have a brief bounce-back so that Woody has a mild excuse to dither about. Or maybe we haven't quite hit the new low yet and this is it...

As for lineup, I can't even be arsed, too many injuries to keep up with.

Just saw that Love is cup tied. Who the feck is available to play at the back?

We'll probably see some 3-5-2 with Carrick or one of the young lads at CB.

Shrewsbury to win 1-0. Van Gaal to still be in a job despite the giant killing.

The only thing stopping this season from being utterly awful is that City and Liverpool are almost as bad as we are.

Van Gaal to be saved forever with a heroic 1-1 draw.

Negative sidewards & backwards football.... again.
Minnows taking the upper hand through direct, fast-paced, attacking football.... again.
Mind-bending substitutions by Van Winkle.... again.
Giggs staying mute & giving it the 1000 yard stare like he's seen Imogen Thomas in the chippy across the road.... again.
Van Gaal reiterating how "It is not, then, so easy" & blaming "the law of Murphy".... again.
Mata saying how things will change this week in his blog.... again.
Carrick/Smalling being interviewed saying "it's not good enough".... again.
Praise for the fans, for enduring the dribble.... again.
    Van Dyke 'under pressure'.... again.
There being no REAL pressure at all on LVG.... again.
Woody hiding from pillar to post all week in the shadows.... again.
Caf melt-down about how he can't possibly survive after that.... again.
Media runs "New Low" headline.... again.
The Glazers sit on their thrones of lies counting their dividends oblivious to anything that's going on at M16.... again.
    Supporters speculate on Mourinho..... again.
Pre-match press conference on Wednesday.... "It is not so easy...".... again.

    Repeat to fade.

Reckon we'll scrape through by an odd goal. Although the measured, slow football is perfect for them. They'll be up for it, right in the faces of our lot and it'll be difficult. Can see us winning it quite late if they tire.

Our injured team would be better than our non-injured team. Real risk of going out if we get the line up wrong again.

Would like to see Will Keane given a game up front. I'd rather we didn't play Love.

Assuming De Gea, Johnstone, Darmian, Varela, Shaw, B-Jackson, Jones, Rojo, Schweinsteiger, Fellaini, Januzaj, Rooney, Valencia, and Young are all out (!) I would go with:

    ------------------------------Romero-----------------------------
    McNair----------Smalling------------Carrick--------------Blind
    ----------------Herrera------Schneiderlin-----------------------
    Mata--------------------------------------------------Memphis
    ----------------Martial--------W.Keane--------------------------

subs: Henderson, Lingard, Pereira, Riley, Weir, Tuanzebe, Rashford

Bloody hell, calm down sweet cheeks, you're going to give yourself high blood pressure. I'm being optimistic...give it a whirl because endless crying about the situation makes zero difference to the outcome this season.

    Depressingly accurate

Still injured: de Gea, Rooney, Darmian, Fellaini, Januzaj, Varela, Jones, Young, Schweinsteiger, Rojo, Valencia, and Shaw.

de Gea, Varela, Jones, and Januzaj all have a chance to be back for Arsenal, but de Gea is the only one likely to return straight away and make much of a difference, so it's the same squad for a few weeks yet.

Herrera had a shocker in the last game, but do you play him here to both redeem himself and keep one of Carrick or Mata fresh for the return leg in the Europa League tie, or just leave him on the bench for the next three games on the trot?

Martial will probably start up front again, but there's still somehow competition on the flanks between Lingard, Memphis, Pereira and potentially even Mata.

In the FA Cup, in an Away game (even if they're the lowest ranked side left) we probably need the experience a little more than a Home game in the Europa League - however, Midtjyland is definitely the more important game for our season.

    Romero
    McNair Smalling Blind Borthwick-Jackson
    Carrick Schneiderlin
    Lingard Mata Memphis
    Martial
    ---
Henderson; Poole, Weir; Riley, Herrera, Pereira; Keane

It's amazing to say I wouldn't be surprised if we're taken to a replay, but that's how bad we are at the moment.

Despite this, there are a few positions with competition for the place (mostly if Borthwick-Jackson is back). It could be Love or McNair at Right Back, or we could even see McNair or Carrick at Centre Back.

You should read the posts from before. Love is cup tied. I also worry about Carrick playing, then playing Thursday, then playing against Arsenal. Not sure he can play that many games now.
