Was reading earlier that they'll be extra police at the match because of the presence of SAF. Apparently fans are angry about what happened when Darren Ferguson was sacked by the club. All seems a bit petty if you ask me, that was five years ago and managers are sacked all the time as we all know.

Could you please explain better? Why would fans take out their anger on SAF? Or is the police protection for the fans?

This fans definitely need police protection from Saf. Look at what he did to Beckham and that was an accident!

Yeah those attending the match will be screened for hairdryers and random size 11 Nike Hypervenom :)

Don't really see how I didn't explain myself very well, see the story below for yourself.

Yes, thanks for sharing, @Acole9. Yeah, it was one of the main ways in which Alex could get badly out of shape, when the offspring were involved. Certainly adds a twist and a bit of spice to this fixture, although as you say its slightly ancient history. I'm sure they would dearly love to pee off Fergie with an upset.

5 things I want from this match......

Rooney to play striker, Wilson to be the other striker, Mata to play behind those, Herrera and di Maria in CM

RVP and falcao to be benched

Is it too much to ask.

    Probably. It's a bit like asking for a Saturday kick-off at 3 o'clock.

I just bet on more than 3 bookings, with a red counting as 2.5.
Garner and Davies will be playing elbows out, Fellaini is always possible, and Jones is brainless. Counting the winnings already. A good game for Rafael to play, too, I think.

Sounds like a good bet, though I'd be surprised if the referee cards any Preston players as they are the smaller team so will probably get away with everything. But Fellaini and Herrera (if he starts) are good bets, as would be Rafael if he starts, plus maybe a couple of soft ones for our high-profile attackers.

Herrera and Mata to start. No Januzaj. Rooney up front. But it's LVG philosophy, so nothing from these things is going to happen though.
    Hope to see :
    DDG
    Mcnair-----Smalling-----Rojo-----Shaw
    Blind
    Mata-----Herrera
    Di.Maria
    Falcao-----Rooney

I wonder who Moyes is doing punditry for. I'm not sure it's really necessary. But he's a classy man, yo..

    Mcnair-----Smalling-----Rojo-----Shaw
    Blind
    Mata-----Herrera
    Di.Maria
    Falcao-----Rooney

I'm delighted LvG has Januzaj in his starting XI.

Seen as we have lost on the two occasions I have put a formation in the match day thread.....

    DDG
    McNair - Smalling - Rojo - Shaw
    Rooney - Fellaini
    Valencia - ADM
    Falcao - Wilson
    442 with wingers

    1-3 with a red card.

    Easy as.

    Hope to see :
    DDG
    Mcnair-----Smalling-----Rojo-----Shaw
    Blind
    Mata-----Herrera
    Di.Maria
    Falcao-----Rooney

That exact team but for me wilson over falcao because falcao doesn't deserve a place and switch di Maria and mata round then we are ready to go

    Want to see:

    --------------De Gea---------------
    Rafael--Smalling-Rojo-------Shaw
    ---------Blind---Herrera-----------
    --------------Mata------------------
    ----Di Maria--------Rooney---------
    -------------Van Persie-------------

    Expect:

    ---------------De Gea------------
    Valencia-Smalling-Rojo----Shaw
    ----------------Blind--------------
    ---------Rooney---Fellaini--------
    ----------------Di Maria-----------
    ------------RvP----Falcao---------

    Expecting:

    DDG
    Rafael - Smalling - Rojo - Shaw
Fellaini - Rooney - Di Maria
    Herrera
    Wilson - Falcao

I think it'll be a good game to get Rafael back into the side, rest of the back four pick themselves.

Blind I can see rested after his knock and Herrera given a go after his solid performance.

    Rooney and Di Maria

Fellaini I think will be in to bolster the side against a physical team, important at set pieces and dealing with their big forwards.

RVP rested with his knock and Wilson given a chance next to Falcao

These threads have developed into the two line up threads - what you'd like to see and what we will probably see....

    For me

    -------------------------DDG-------------------------
    Rafael----Smalling-----Rojo--------Shaw
    -------------------Blind-----Herrera--------------
    Di Maria-------Mata/Rooney----Januzaj
    -------------------Rooney/Wilson-------------------

Solidity and fast attacking football - just once please Louis

    DDG
    Mcnair
    Smalling
    Rojo
    Shaw
    Blind
    Herrera
    di Maria
    Mata
    Rooney
    Nani

seems unlikely so failing that Wilson instead of Nani.

What's our record like on Monday night? We really should be beating this lot comfortably but I'm not confident given our abmysal away record.

Van Gaal is going with this lineup:

    ------------De Gea---------------
    McNair - Smalling - Rojo - Shaw
    -------------Blind-----------------
    ------Herrera --- Fellaini--------
    ------------ Di Maria -------------
    --------Wilson --- Rooney--------

Preston with 5 at the back, hopefully United will dominate the game and create chances.

7 min - United are going straight in attack, creating a couple of half chances.
14 min - We're dominating as expected, but not creating anything really. Wilson has tendencies to drift wide and run straight out of the pitch with the ball. Stupid.
24 min - Oh lord, now we have started to hit crosses. Fellaini isn't even in the box. Rumours are spreading saying that Van Gaal is actually Moyes in disguise.
37 min - We're actually creating chances. No goals yet.
45 min - GOAL!! Fellaini with a great shot with his left foot from around 10 meters. Nice assist by Rooney.

Half time - United is in the lead. We started off poorly but improved later on in the first half. Deserved lead. Good but not great. 65% possession and incredible 96% passing accuracy.

47 min - The rumours saying that Van Gaal is Moyes in disguise has been confirmed as false. The crowd is relieved.
60 min - Just noticed that Sam Johnsone is playing for Preston. This is a violation against the rules agreed in the loan deal, and Preston will most certainly recieve a fine.
63 min - Van Persie on for Wilson. Rafael on for McNair. Van Gaal is not very confident.
64 min - Awful corner by Di Maria. Way too short. Why is all his corners too short?
75 min - Juan Mata on for Herrera.
82 min - Very boring second half. Uninspired performances by most of the United players. Nothing has happened at all. The mood is bad at RedCafe.
90 min - Preston are really close to an equaliser. De Gea with a couple of nice saves.

Full time - The game has ended 0-1. Disappointing performance against a poor League 1 side. Nevertheless, United are on to the next round.

Preston North End 0-1 Manchester United
