The Sunderland semifinal loss in 2014 was absolutely incredible. I remember us time wasting and defending in the dying minutes of the second leg and it reminded me so much of Barcelona 2008. Except it was against Sunderland.
The one with De Gea making that mistake and Hernandez scoring in the 122 minute or something? Looked like Moyes misunderstood the away goal rule during the first 90 minutes..

That's Rooney's level so he has a decent chance of having at least 1 shot on target.

I'm guessing this one's been answered already but does this one have replays or do they go to ET and Pens?

Rooney, Depay, and Young don't have any goals between them unfortunately.

How are we setting up though, going for a 4-3-3 or putting Herrera in the #10 pos. ? I'd hope he goes for the 4-3-3, like this:

    -------------Romero
    TFM---Smalling -- Blind--- Rojo
    -------------Carrick
    -------Herrera---Schneiderlin---
    Young----------------------Depay
    ------------Rooney

If we don't win today, oh my are we in trouble. Hoping this CM-combo shows there quality against lesser opposition.

Rooney playing is good. Means he's not first choice while the others are rested. Midfield looks really negative though. Was hoping Mata would start in front of Schneiderlin, maybe he'll play on the weekend though? Should win easily of course, but it's clearly just a rotated 11.

Good guy Mourinho starting a League 1 level striker to give Northampton a chance.

    NORTHAMPTON'S STARTING XI
Northampton have named their team via their Twitter account it features United's former Academy player Kenji Gorre.

No complaints. Rooney has the chance to prove if he still has it as a striker (to which we all know the answer, apparently). I'm sure Mata will come on if we are too slow in the midfield.

Should be great game. Come on United!

Excited to see that team. Herrera and Schniederlin in good positions, TFM playing and a 1st start for Memphis under Jose.

Ironically, that midfield offers the protection, or should offer, that we'd need against Man City. Not Northampton. But let's see.

It's still United, I'm still excited for the game.

Rooney will score a goal or two. We have two wide men who like to cross and an energetic Herrera supporting him.

I'm fine with him and Carrick starting this if it means that they don't start on Saturday.

At least he's up front instead of at #10.
At least? That's not a good thing at all, he'll be fecking awful and will likely ruin every attack. At least it looks like all the key players are rested whilst Rooney is not so hopefully he's not starting against Leicester.

Rooney! How the feck is he still playing? Feck me for fecks sake!!
Its a good sign ffs. We have a 2nd string team out and he's in. Hopefully a sign he isnt going to start the next league game.

I think this team will do well. Herrera and Rooney as the front two is fine and Carrick/Blind in the team takes care of distribution and defensive solidarity.

Interesting team. I hope Fosu-Mensah and Depay do well, they've not had a chance yet this season

Memphis and Young playing either side of Rooney. Not bad on paper.

I think it's a decent team for a second XI.

At least he's up front instead of at #10.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him drop down into midfield to pick up the ball regardless. If only he could stay up top like a striker he should get a couple of goals today.

I actually thinks him playing this means he will be benched against Leicester.
Me too. It will be Ibrahimovic and Rashford.

Mou didn't want to upset the club and cause a stir when he arrived so he maintained Rooney as captain and gave him numerous chances. He has now shown what most of us realized some time ago that he is not good enough and nobody will be complaining if Rooney is benched. It is the opposite actually.

I can't be arsed with this, having seen that line up. How do I convince the wife that it's in her interests to have the game on and have her endure a front 3 of Rooney, Young and Memphis?!
Disclaimer - This post is not a serious one.

Interesting team. I hope Fosu-Mensah and Depay do well, they've not had a chance yet this season

Memphis was fairly shocking against Feyenoord and Watford. Wasteful.

He needs to really shine tonight and make an impression.
