Agree to disagree. His short passing is excellent. His long passing is average at best. Often poor. And in the one instance where he should’ve made the difference, he flubbed a simple pass to Martial.
He’s disrupted our entire balance up front. He cuts into the same space Pogba occupies, and playmakes to lesser effect. We don’t need him doing that when we have Pogba, we are better off with someone who’s going to run into the channels, run at defenders, stretch the back line.
It’s also worth considering that it’s hard for Valencia to make overlapping runs, because if he’s playing with Lingard he knows Lingard has the legs to get back and cover him if possession is lost for a counter attack. Mata does not have the speed to track back on a fast counter.
Basically the little man is a disaster on the wing. For me, he’s a natural cover for Pogba. He shouldn’t be an option on the right.
and for years. this has been an issue going back to last year or two of Fergie.

This is what Matic should be doing but instead he's slowing our play down. Valencia is defensively all over the place and providing Mata with no support. Fix those two issues and we should be fine.Ole has to put his hands up and say he picked the wrong side today.
Herrera has been playing deep and right a lot this game, to make up for Valencia's deficiencies. I'd say if we brought on Young he'd be more effective. Everything is coming back to Valencia who is static and slow. Our CBs are covering more and being exposed for it, Herrera is playing deeper, and Mata is playing more centrally to get more of the ball. I'd say we'd see a big improvement with a Young-Valencia sub.Would definitely take out Valencia for Young.
Would probably bring in Lingard in for Mata right away + Sanchez/Lukaku at some point as well.

No. Reason we are having trouble breaking them down is because we’ve lost a forward and clogged the center with another playmaker. Take off Mata and bring on Lingard or Sanchez, and the game opens up.Mata is a good sub when you are leading and want slow things down. He is a utility player. But useless when facing tight defense.
We don't need Mata really. Yea he's made some nice passes but we have Pogba to do that if Mata stops occupying his space. I'd rather Mata go off for Lingard who can stretch the right wing.One half without goals and people are bringing the knives out. How about some patience? He's too slow to play the on the right. He's actually stinking the place up. Sanchez is much more dynamic and has a huge goal threat, so should come on.
He kills as much moves and kills as much space as he creates, to me he doesn’t know what he is doing, he’s just running around. However I would take that right now over what Mata is doing.Young and Sanchez on at half-time is a necessity.
Words that maybe can't be said here, but getting Alexis playing marginally better than the start of the season will bring him up to Lingard's level, and improvement beyond that will take us further.
It's valid criticism of an unbalanced side that struggles because of said unbalance. The remedy is on the bench.- Status
