He’s disrupted our entire balance up front. He cuts into the same space Pogba occupies, and playmakes to lesser effect. We don’t need him doing that when we have Pogba, we are better off with someone who’s going to run into the channels, run at defenders, stretch the back line.

It’s also worth considering that it’s hard for Valencia to make overlapping runs, because if he’s playing with Lingard he knows Lingard has the legs to get back and cover him if possession is lost for a counter attack. Mata does not have the speed to track back on a fast counter.

Basically the little man is a disaster on the wing. For me, he’s a natural cover for Pogba. He shouldn’t be an option on the right.

Watching a match refereed by Andre Mariner versus one by Michael Oliver is like watching two different sports.

Mind, I generally prefer Mariner's approach, it's just incredible how differently the FA permit matches to be run.

I see the writing on the wall for Mata. He is useless in a game like this. In a game where they park the bus and do not venture into our half he can play. Not in a game like this.
I feel that even Rashford is a bit down in this match. Maybe he ran too much in his previous games. We need to replace Mata and even Valencia if we are to win this game. We need to get the ball to our right too to stretch their defence.

It is not a matter of scapegoating, Mata will get you a goal here and there, but his contribution to the general shape of any team since his days at Chelsea is actually detrimental to fluid movement. He does nothing for you without the ball. If Ole changes Mata for just about any attacker on the bench, we will look more potent going forward.

Why be so melodramatic, it’s 0-0 and most people can see where the problems are. It’s not knives out, Valencia hasn’t been good enough for ages and him and Mata aren’t a great combo.

Valencia is the one causing the problems due to being unfit/past his best or a combination of the two.

Mata has still been involved in many of our better attacking moves with absolutely no support from the fullback.
