The super slow players set up a super simple goal. Football is indeed a funny game at times.

I'm happy for Fellaini when he scores and he doesn't deserve abuse thrown at him, but he just doesn't belong at this club. He's like a sore thumb sticking out.

Huh? Have you never heard of rotation? Christ on a bike.
Yeah honestly the reason we've played quite poorly this month is down to rotation, we've had a different 11 for basically every game with no time to settle, rest of the season should see us getting back to how we were.

I'm surprised Rooney doesn't get more flak here. I usually think the criticism towards him is over the top but to me he was slowing our play down tremendously.
he's been poor so far but as ever the criticism he gets is a disgrace, worthy of the dippers

Horrible first half. Don´t think Mkhitaryan and Mata in the same team works well. Both seem to want to do the same all the time and get in each others way. Get Rashford on for one of them, to have someone who actually does something out wide.

On a different note: Jose's hair grows back a hell of a lot faster than mine

We're lucky we have Fellaini cause we wouldn't be winning this without him. Great goal

Probably just a lack of confidence. Needs more games and he'll be all right I think.

In the meantime, TFM not doing too badly.

TFM looking pretty good with the ball. His touch is very good. Looks a bit all over the place when Wigan attacked though. Probably to be expected for such a young player who doesn't really seem to have a position yet.

I wonder why people are complaining about our performance. Wigan basically have two banks of five and have clearly set out to just defend, and try to catch us on the break like Southampton against Liverpool.

Not many teams are going to be able to break that down without shifting the ball around to make space. Passages of play are going to break down more often than not.

In 3M we have potential to unlock Wigan on the ground and in Fellaini we have potential to go aerial.

Fellaini plays shit - he gets criticised.
Fellaini plays well - he gets criticised.

Marouane can never win on RedCafe.

Its obvious that he is rotating his squad against a weaker side at home, in a cup match too.

Plenty of positives to take. Our fullbacks have been decent considering neither have played much this season. We will need Shaw back to give us a legit threat on the left flank. This is the road to recovery for him and he is looking decent.

What? This is him rotating, not experimenting.

Nobody is using that excuse. We're playing Wigan at home in the cup, with players like Fellaini and Schweinsteiger playing. Obviously Mourinho doesn't see this as our best team, it's a rotated XI.

I'm not concerned about the rotation, it's necessary but it's painfully obvious that an unfit Schweinstiger, Fellaini and Rooney is a poor combination. If Wigan went half a gear up, that midfield would have been the death of us

Everyone has been like a 5/10. Nobody really better or worse. Certain players just have more focus on them so any bad touch is exxagerated but theyve all been basically the same.

Agree. They have all been poor. But my point is the front 3 or 4 can't do much if the cm can't pass well.

Lol, in that case, we're sucking as a team because Fellaini is a fecking tree in the midfield, can do nothing right

We all know Fella is extremely limited as it is, but in a two man mid like today, he's worse. Bastian is doing the work of two people. But they obviously have been instrumental in the goal, so they have been effective today more than Rooney, more than Mata.

You're right. He is sticking out. He's probably been our best player today.

Who else has stepped up today?

I'm going to get roundly condemned for this but I feel that Schweinstiger is getting a lot of undue criticism, mostly because he's considered to be too slow and laboured. But from watching him closely it's apparent that he's not going to play box-to-box. He's happier to sit in front of that backline where he can see the field in front of him and if he can't pick out a long range pass, which admittedly is a lot of the time, then he'll at least keep the ball moving. I know it isn't exciting to watch but a lot of the play is going through him. What we need is someone more adventurous to partner him who will push further up, like Herrera or Pogba for example and who will create an outlet. But what I also enjoy is seeing him constantly directing the play even when he hasn't got the ball. If Fellaini or Mikhi are in possession, he'll be pointing where he thinks the ball needs to go. It's a quiet leadership that's not too apparent if you aren't watching him closely. Perhaps he would look better in a midfield three where he has another two who can do the more leggy work. But I see doing a Carrick from a few years ago, not pressing that high but being the starting point from where play can be developed.

Also, games like this are why I love having Luke Shaw in the team. Making those bursts forward and not being afraid to take on opposing fullbacks like a second winger. We've not looked as bad as it's made out to be, certainly not dominated at least, but not very clinical at finding those defence-splitting touches. Hopefully there's a more precise attacking threat in the second half. But probably not though.

Perfect pass from Bastjan and fellaini loves those.

Good improvement from Basti. Fellaini has been decent too.

Weird that Shaw doesn't look keen on going forward. Sitting very deep and isn't ever looking for the overlap.
Isn't that Mourinho's style though? One fullback marauding forward while the other is more reserved? TFM has been attacking a lot.

    Well he's not been bad?
He's not been good. He's basically existed and not much more than that. He's reluctant to help in the attack to the point that he's getting yelled at to overlap... I thought his attacking ability was one of his strengths as a fullback?

yeah...but I think Mourinho sees him useful in a squad...and to be honest I can see why.
I really don't know. He seems more like last resort because we lack depth in midfield.

    He's what?

Christ almighty, the shit starts again.

Our full-backs have to take them on and cross better than they did till now.

What makes you think our guys can't go a gear up?

I like the frankness of Shearer and Lineker. I often agree with a lot of what they say. Certainly agree with them regarding the resting of players in cup competitions. It's a fecking trophy, try and win it!
