Goal aside, that was terrible! I'm getting sick of the excuse that Jose does not know his best team, how long does he need?

Its obvious that he is rotating his squad against a weaker side at home, in a cup match too.

Plenty of positives to take. Our fullbacks have been decent considering neither have played much this season. We will need Shaw back to give us a legit threat on the left flank. This is the road to recovery for him and he is looking decent.

have to say James Joyce has got his players knowing their roles. he might do well there

Is a cross from the wing really route one anyway? After about 20 passes looking to make space?

I wouldn't say so, Wigan have been happy to make it compact and hit us on the break or a set piece.

Keown's commentary is clear for all to see. He's an Arsenal fan commentating on a United game. What else would you expect? :wenger:

Nobody is using that excuse. We're playing Wigan at home in the cup, with players like Fellaini and Schweinsteiger playing. Obviously Mourinho doesn't see this as our best team, it's a rotated XI.

Massive goal that, go in 0-0 and we probably don't see Martial, Shaw and Basti in the second half

Too many players with zero confidence
How can you have 0 confidence vs Wigan?

If it's true it only tells us what these players really are.

So a cross from deep is now considered a long ball?
It was a great ball in! We've been missing that.

Anyway, I want to win, so if it takes hoof ball all the way then so be it:D

Good improvement from Basti. Fellaini has been decent too.

Weird that Shaw doesn't look keen on going forward. Sitting very deep and isn't ever looking for the overlap.

That is poor analysis from Shearer about United players constantly dropping deep instead of getting in behind, he avoided mkhi sitter chance and also showed three clips on which at least two of the players were visibly trying to get in behind despite what his arrows said.

I would bring Rashford in the second half. Maybe for Rooney. It would add a bit more speed around Mata and Miki.

Wigan played well. We have been quite mediocre but it is understandable with so much changes, the kind of pairings(Schweini-Fellaini) out there and quite a few players with not much minutes in the season so far. Hope goal helps to settle things in 2nd half.

I'm surprised Rooney doesn't get more flak here. I usually think the criticism towards him is over the top but to me he was slowing our play down tremendously.

Shaw and TFM haven't been aggressive enough. Not sure Rooney knows where he is at. United should go 442 and get wide, which Wigan is allowing for. So congested inside the channels with Wigan sitting deep and compact. No room to play through the middle.

Everyone has been like a 5/10. Nobody really better or worse. Certain players just have more focus on them so any bad touch is exxagerated but theyve all been basically the same.

Probably just a lack of confidence. Needs more games and he'll be all right I think.

In the meantime, TFM not doing too badly.

Martial playing much better when moved to the left
Agreed, to be honest I think that's where he'll end up now, don't think he'll ever play striker as a permanent position. Much better suited out wide where he can run at people.

I think we're not pushing them up too aggressively to prevent Wigan from catching us on the counter.. But i agree, having Rooney play alone upfront wasn't working against a team that was built to defend and play for the draw.

Now that we have a lead, might see the game open up for the likes of Mata, Martial and Mikhi to start picking Wigan apart on the counter
