2 goals and 2 assists for Rooney so far
and RVP scored in the last match
    how bad have they been?

Still, what about making sacrifices according to what's best for the team? What is the definition of internal competition if the manager is not willing to drop certain individuals at certain times?

I don't care what the score is today so long as we end up with one more goal than West ham.

Are people really arguing over the attack again when we have an academy centre-back starting, a home debut at left-back and Rojo, who had a shocker last week, starting at centre-back for the first time for us?

The attack is not why we lost last week. We scored 3 goals away from home.

Did you watch the last game as a whole or just like your little stats?

Because rooney was dreadful. I'm no rooney fan or hate the bloke but he was and has been awful. A captain drags the game by the scruff of the neck and calms it down. What did he do when we were on the ropes against Leicester? Could you imagine keano letting vardy run riot? Nope he would have nailed him early doors... Rooney shouldn't be captain and to be honest he should be warming the bench.

Rooney has never had a great partnership with any fellow striker and Van Persie at his best was clearly the better player. Whether he can get back to that level is the question.
Not great, no. But when has he had the time with one player?
Saha, Welbeck, Hernandez, weren't bad at all. He played his part in a fluid attack with Ronaldo, Tevez and even Berbatov.
Even looked promising with Kagawa when they occasionally played close together without van Persie.

Rooney's not ever going to be in a legendary partnership with anyone, but van Persie's shown absolutely nothing in his years in this regard - not always his fault, because he grew up playing in certain systems - but he's even more of a solo player now.

van Persie at his best was better than Rooney (though Rooney was also class as a number 9), agreed. But that's not happening again in my opinion. And if he's not at his best (and with the options we have), I wouldn't play him, especially not in a partnership going forward.

The people talking about Mata being too lightweight for West Ham, you talk of him like he's a kid. He spent two years at Chelsea giving the rest of the league a collective aneurism, FFS! It is pretty simple. Mata keeps possession better, Rooney "puts a shift in". Depends on what you prefer, I know which one I would rather have had both today and last week, and it wasn't our Captain Not So Fantastic...

Yep, you're probably right, against big Sam i would also try to ensure the control of the tempo, especially now that WH seem to be in good form. But it seems that LvG is building a team around RvP, Rooney and Falcao. Playing with three players up front who can score lots of goals and create chances and giving them freedom of movement in the final third is something LvG has done many times in his career. He did it at Ajax, Barcelona and of course at the WC last summer. Rodgers did the same thing last season and it worked fine for him. So, those three will keep getting matches until they learn each other's game perfectly and start delivering the goods on a regular basis.

Just that results have not really gone our way. There should be lots of chances for Mata and adnan/Pereira to play.

    Some people always complain.

Why change a forward line which worked last week?Mata and Januzaj will get their chances, its a long season, and they have to take their chances.Mata is a bit too lightweight to be playing againt westham. Also why do people make a fuss about RVP and LVG's relationship?LVG didnt think twice before subbing off RVP in the world cup. This man has a huge set of balls. He doesnt do favouritism.

Got 11/11 players right today :)

If we apply that logic Mata would have started against Leicester, he was brilliant against QPR. It seems the issue is work rate when defending, and I refuse to believe that, it is more about keeping his 3 worldy strikers happy at the expense of someone else...

Just for one game, I would like to see a 4-3-3 with pace either side of a number 9 (maybe back 4 plus herrera, blind, rooney, januzaj, falcao, di maria) Will be interesting, but unfortunately LVG fielded the Transfer/Youth List XI against MK Dons....

I love all the people who know better than managers who see these players day in and day out and claim the selections are wrong.

Let's just see how it goes eh? Have faith.

Hope what's at stake is incentive enough for the lads to demolish this one. If we win, we move ahead of both Liverpool and Everton, our arguably most major top 4 opponents, for the first time in nearly a calendar year.

If that's not motivation enough, I don't know what is. Especially with the tough fixtures ahead of us, the psychological advantage of climbing those teams can prove massive for us.

I see what your saying but we do seem to be missing a natural leader at the moment.

Its absolutely frustrating when your rivals drop points and you don't capitalise on it...
Indeed, to do in two weeks in a row would be suicidal. Given the opposition we have faced this year we should be near the top, not the bottom.

We need Herrera to be more disciplined with his runs and passes and we need to defend MUCH better.

Still feeling very confident with this team, excited to see shaw debut and I'm sure he'll make us a better team as will seeing Rojo at cb. Apart from young McNair I'm thrilled with the team and cant wait to watch some beautiful football with hopefully a good result for us.

    GGMU.

Yeah granted we are lacking a leader but making him captain is probably the worst thing LVG could have done and I love LVG

I've got a decent river, can't keep track of who still needs one so PM me

I did, and Rooney tracked back more than our midfield and more than the rest of our strikers at times.
Against a physical West Ham and with an inexperienced defence that's what the manager is looking for.
LVG openly said, that he wasn't happy with Mata's midfield performance the last time he got a start.
