Lots of people on here only watch us when we’re winning. Go through a rough patch and other plans become more important.

Just setting my 4:45 alarm now. Obviously nervous as hell considering our form, but also excited! Been a lot of seasons recently when we didn’t have Champions League matches.

Hope we put in a decent performance.

Soon I will set to Old Trafford.

Been quite disappointed lately, but I am confident 2night we'll put a good performance. It's Champions League and everyone needs to give their 100% and go for it. It won't be easy, Valencia have a really good squad and we know our record against Spanish teams in the Champions League (check last year vs Sevilla).

However, I am pretty confident we are gonna win this 2night and we'll finish 1st of the group, ahead of Juventus.

    C'mon u reds!

Will miss most of the game but should see last 30mins or so.

Probably the first time, I'm glad that's the case.

You already know the answer to that.
Hint: Not the team in red

Not about winning but feeling a connect with the team. It shouldn't be a one way street. I don't blame anyone for not putting the same effort in when there's very little given back. It's supposed to be them providing us with something more than anything.

Not expecting a good performance. Experience would suggest we’d get a response from recent events but we rarely get that under Mourinho - at best I think it’ll be an unremarkable narrow win.

Hope some of the out of form players can do themselves justice tonight (e.g. Lukaku etc).

Since I'm Spanish and I follow La Liga, I will leave you below what I expect from Valencia CF tonight.

    --------------------Neto-------------------

    -----Piccini-Garay--Paulista-Gayá-----

    -Coquelin-Parejo-Kondogbia-Guedes-

    ------------------Soler---------------------

    -----------------Rodrigo-------------------

I'm 100% sure they will start with Coquelin - Kondogbia in the middle to face our strong physical midfield. We must be careful with Guedes, his speed, and specially Rodrigo, playing in the National team and performing really well for both teams, national team & Valencia. Soler is also a good option for them who can come from the 2nd line, we must be careful with the loose balls.

Hopefully our "strong" attack will destroy them..

Wait. They have ex Arse Gabriel and Coq in their XI?
    Easy win for us then.

For once this season i'd like us to play expressive, attacking football and show some courage ffs instead of starting off on the back foot and playing with fear. Keep it simple and just have a fecking go at the opposition!!!

Because we are currently not in good form, what Jose is trying to do is control the game and grind out some results. This way, at least we can stop the slide.
After this, with more confidence, we should be able to go on a run.
If we play attacking football, like against Spurs, we could get turned over, quite easily and quickly.

The time to play swashbuckling football (to gain confidence) would be against a really poor team, where even if we concede, we know we can score 3 or more goals.

Just got a text (first time ever) to say I can walk up to OT this evening and buy tickets for the game!!!! Dire state of affairs.

Biggest question is whether Mourinho starts this game which has been described as his final chance pretty much all over the press with the star player who has undermined him at every opportunity, Paul Pogba.

I kind of want to see Pogba out of the side for a bit.

    Personally I'd go for
    ---------------de Gea
    Tony------Bailly--Smalling------Shaw
    ----------------Fellaini
    -----------Fred-------Pereira
    Dalot----------------------Rashford
    ---------------Lukaku

Lingard, Herrera and Young are out. Martial and Sanchez ready from the bench.

I get a feeling that any other manager would have Pereira as a regular starter. Not saying he's great, I'm a bit unsure about him, but he's at least very mobile and attack minded - another manager would have him in there instead of Matic or Fellaini, providing more fluidity and creativity.

Not too sure about that. I like what i have seen of Pereira in Preseason and in his few mins on competitive level, but last year a lot of Valencia fans didn't like him. After his good start he got too much confidence and just tried everything on his own.

Don't know why, but i have a feeling that we are playing really good today. You can cite me when we are playing shit :D

    That's the spirit.

Unless you meant it in the other way.
Nope. I rate Lukaku. I dont think he is playing so poorly as people always say.

If you watch those teams that are playing well, like Liverpool; sometimes their players can get away with some bad performances that nobody will even notice it in their player threads, because the collective is working so well and they are winning.

Sure we ain't talking about Mourinho vs Valencia here?:wenger:

Think we will win this. Cup games are different gravy, the players will motivate themselves for this competition.

received an sms today for the first time ever from the club offering me tickets for the game tonight. Expected to be a lot of empty seats which is not surprising

I read that there's loads of empty seats. We'll see how many it will be but this will send more of a message than any dire performance will.

Especially if they want to be playing in it later in the season when a new manager arrives.
    Not giving up hope.

Shame that those who will be there will be so far up Mourinho's arse that the club probably won't notice the empty seats.

That Derby County game was lumpy gravy with bits of glass in it.

That Derby County game was lumpy gravy with bits of glass in it.

CL is far more prestigious than the league cup though. It's what all players work for all season, they won't throw it.

Even in Chelsea's 15/16 season, their players downed tools in the league but performed in the CL. Clearly most of them do care about the competition.

Not easy to predict the scoreline or the lineup for this one. Whose turn will it be to be picked to make a point the way he did with Martial at West Ham. Had no idea with the selection for the most part so just slapped in 11 names rather than trying to negotiate the labyrinth.
I can see this either being yet another timid and meek surrender or a resounding win, which one I really don't know. I think the atmosphere will be a bit poisonous if it's another embarrassing display. A win will at least give Mourinho a bit of breathing space, until the next game anyway.

I'm sure there is glory hunters but I'm pretty sure most of them have already gone the past 4 years of horror. I myself haven't missed many games in recent years but I don't blame United fans who have missed them. We're so boring it's almost a chore to watch us. So I don't blame people for not putting themselves through our matches.

It's gone to the point where we no we're not winning titles, but for the love of god at least entertain us.

Or they'll be there because they support Manchester United and have paid for a ticket.
