I'm so ready for this match. Nothing better than pizza and United on a lazy monday evening.
My thoughts exactly. Your favourite takeaway, bank holiday and a massive United game!

Is it definite Martial has been dropped or he just hasn't been seen at the Lowry?

Think we will win 2-1, which seems to be the main consensus. Wont be pretty. I wonder if Mourinho will go with 3 at back if Matic is fit, as two full backs plus Shaw are not really old style fullbacks. Predict.
    DDG
    Smalling Matic Jones
    Valencia Shaw
    Herrara Pogba Fred
    Sanchez
    Lukaku

Not sure about that. I recall Smalling standing statue like when Delle Ali ran on to Kane’s flick for the first goal.

Maybe I’m wrong but I think they were both awful.

Absolutely not, Smalling did everything right, he tracked his runner (Alli)and prevented him from getting goal side. Jones lost the header, the next step is to get back into the space next to the fullback. Matic could not see the run of Eriksen as it was from his blindside. Valencia and Young were most culpable, Both saw Eriksen's run and didn't track it, with Valencia being the most liable as he should have followed Smalling's line to close the space Jones left when he was fighting for the header.

The second goal is a fantastic finish from Jones off a non threatening cross, so that doesn't need explaining.

There’s no way we’re on the front foot. If there’s any game where we’ll play reactive it’s against Spurs. They press well and we don’t. Jose rarely sets up positive against these types of teams.

exactly. I never get why Jones' partners are contantly blamed for his ineptitude when he mucks up.....

Matic at CB would be interesting. Would probably mean Pereira retaining his place too.

Could backfire spectacularly but don't mind us trying something different. He can at least play the ball out.

    De Gea

    Lindelof Matic Smalling
    Valencia Fred Pereira Pogba Shaw
    Lukaku Sanchez
Then? Could be a bit of a mess. In that case the manager would probably have Young in over Shaw and Lingard in the team somewhere.

Jones has cost us multiple games by himself last season. Spurs and the FA cup final being the obvious ones.

Smalling almost never makes a game ending mistake, and generally makes up for his minor mistakes with actions in either box.

We’ve done well against Spurs lately, but they are clearly closer to normal speed than we are yet. 1-1

    De Gea
    Valencia Lindelöf Smalling Young
    Fred Andreas Pogba
    Lindgard Lukaku Sanchez

We’ll be trailing one goal, Matic, Rashford and Fellaini will come on between 65 and 80 mins, and Fellaini will score.

Smalling gets blamed for Jones mistakes and even gets called injury prone too.

There's really not much difference between playing 352 with Matic at the back and 442 with him at defensive midfielder. We are only getting width from full backs anyway.

I think this is a game we might win..

But think we will definitely drop points in our next two after that. One possibly even being a defeat.

We are basically the same squad as last season. We'll perform in roughly the same way, get outplayed by lower table opposition relying on De Gea to bail us out. Look like a good team against the big teams giving us hope.

We are a reflection of the manager; one of the finest tacticians of the modern game regularly out thinking other top manager yet doesn't have the same level of preparation of the smaller games and expects his players to get on with it.

Herrera is our most consistent performer in big games. Think he should be starting.

Strangely confident for this game. Last season we would often perform well against the other top sides, even following a poor result. Also, Spurs' league record at OT is truly terrible. No points or goals since 2014, and they apparently have more PL defeats here than any other club on any other away ground.

I think we could snatch a boring 1-0 victory.

I'm intrigued by Matic in a back 3. I think it could be a great move - his legs are starting to go, he's a good passer, composed, big and strong. Let's see if he can transition to being a ball-playing CB, I reckon it could work.

Matic on the left side of a 3?

So Bailly - Smalling - Matic?

Or do we drop Bailly, I'd argue he was worse than Lindelof? Or do both keep their place & Smalling stays out?

Its a big game so our players will probably give a shit and actually turn up today.
Whether that will be enough remains to be seen.
Disappointing not seeing Martial in the squad, would have been a good option to have off the bench.
    Im predicting a 1-1 draw.

United are traditionally (post Ferguson) poor favourites but feisty underdogs. I expect tonight to follow this pattern.

Me too. There were some whispers about this during the summer, I think?
