Seems like I'm the only one who enjoys watching us at the moment, well controlled first half. Nice passes from midfield to front 4. Good attempts to beat men from Martial and Depay and eventually a breakthrough goal. Lets see more of the same in the second half 1 or 2 more goals and a clean sheet.

We are playing a team that are threatened by relegation 365 days a year, even in the off season.

I'm not sure what's to enjoy from that performance. It's aimless, unimaginative and boring. We spent the whole half, as usual, passing the ball from back to front and front to back.

It's not on telly in the UK, it's midweek all over again. Why can't I watch football from my own country*?

Well, not my country obviously. My country has haggis and bagpipes and this pile of shit called Sportscene that takes Match of the Day's place on BBC1 so I can watch what my country classifies as "football", when in fact it's just a really cheap imitation played by plumbers and wife beaters. And another thing; who the feck decided that the country needed to merge all of their police forces into one big one? The last I checked the policies and kit need to deal with drunk nightclub goers in Glasgow is different to dealing with sheep molesters in the middle of the Highlands. And what's the deal with The Proclaimers suddenly becoming the spokespeople for Scottish music? What year are we...
You alright, @Mr Pigeon ... sounds like a rugby meltdown imminent

Dull scrappy first half. Nice goal but the midfield is wrong. Would like to see BFS and/or Herrera second half

We know Sunderland's game plan. They were content to time waste and hope we don't score.

We need to increase the intensity some more and put them under real pressure. Rooney is looking sharper but needs to stay higher up the pitch. The midfield has enough control already. A bit more imagination in attack would be nice. Martial is willing but must get better service to work with.

Sunderland needs to come at us now, and since we scored just before half-time we can set-up to take advantage.

This could be a very fun half to watch.

I know that Valencia is starting as a RB but one would have hoped that having made his name as a winger, she should be doing so much more. He's adding nothing going forward.
I don't buy all this "Rooney running around is a sign of hardwork". As a forward, he should be putting pressure on the defensive back line instead of taking selfies with Valencia.

    Fix up!!!

Love it when the moaners moan and then someone makes then look stupid.

Keep it up lads. Awfully embarrassing stuff sack Manchester hire Barcelona etc etc.

Wasn't vintage but once again, more and more chances being created. Is this not what half of you moaners have been moaning about or are you now moaning about other things.

Could you please release a weekly magazine for us who simply can't keep up with your moaning.

Matta is shite, Depay is shite, Valencia is shite, Rooney is shite, Carrick is shite....goodness..the matchday thread at the caf eh?

We even had Martial is shite by one of the geniuses today.

Whatever you say, boss. I'd say that it's evident that Memphis has so much inherent quality that it's worth giving him the time to figure out how to best utilise it.

He's really quality, but he is struggling to play good. Putting him on bench for a couple of matches won't make him harm IMO, at the contrary. It is something that has been used on young players always, that when they don't play good to bench them and to take the pressure of them.

same old issue. need to move the ball faster. great pass from blind.

dont know why rooney seems like hes struggling to move. should be more involved in the attack in the final third.

Amazing result considering we're playing with nine men today. It's amazing how shite Valencia has become, he is so far off the pace it's not even funny anymore. Rooney... don't even get me started. That's probably the sharpest decline I can remember in a while.

1-0 at the break though, can't complain too much. Blind's passing once again the difference.

Valencia has been very good idk what your talking about.

The players just seem utterly at a loss as to what they are meant to be doing. There doesn't seem to be any type of plan at all - the team are playing at half speed because they aren't sure what they should be doing.

There's been a few times this season where i've thought LVGs plan is to ensure we don't concede in the first half suffocating our creativity as a result.

Mata is one of those players that always scores a goal when questions start getting asked. He's very good at masking how average he is a lot of the time.

That's one assessment. Another is that he can not be at his best but still able to influence by using his reading of the game to be in the right position at the right time. Pretty important skill of you ask me.

I think it'll be a better second half, if for no other reason that Sunderland actually have to come out and try and play now, might leave more space in their half.

I find myself being a lot more positive over Memphis than a lot of you. Him and Martial are the only players that try anything positive going forward. We used to have a lot of players that did that remember. Some people have just got too used to this zombie football imo.

I agree. Really like him, but sometimes he puts too much pressure on himself. I think the PL goal thing was playing on his mind. Looked relieved after scoring. Hope he starts playing with some freedom now.

Fair point. Let's hope LvG makes the right choice.

Maybe but it could also end up being a blow to his confidence, no? And he's not going to adjust to the league sitting on the bench.

More and more chances being created? I think I'll have to switch over to whatever game you're watching.

We played well in the first half. Barely a sniff for Sunderland and a well deserved goal.

Memphis has been good. He makes runs and tries stuff. Rooney had a brilliant turn else he has been decent at best. Carrick has been disappointing especially now that I'm used to basti.

How did pantilimon not get sent off or at least carded?
