Apart from the goal, he was pretty sloppy in the last game. His form has tumbled since that injury and maybe his off the field issues is affecting him.

The majority of games he's played he's looked very good, offers us something different in the midfield, energetic, poses a real threat going forward to. Things tick well with him in the side. He needs regular game time though rather than the odd game here and there.

Brilliant to have Blind back though.

    ----------DDG-------
    Tony-Smalling-Jones-Shaw
    ----Blind---Carrick-----
    --Mata---Rooney--Angel-
    -------Robin------

    Great team!

I don't see it being that at all. Im expecting:

    DDG
    Jones - Smalling - Blind
    Valencia ____________ Shaw
    Carrick - Rooney
    Mata
    Van Persie - Di Maria

    Or

    DDG
    Jones - Smalling
    Valencia ___Carrick____ Shaw
    Rooney - Blind
    Mata
    Van Persie - Di Maria

Apart from improving our midfield every time he comes on.

Maybe. But it would be marginal improvement I think, he hasn't really had a truly brilliant performance in the last few months. Blind/Carrick/Mata/Rooney are not going to get dropped for him as they are in better form or LVG just rates them higher.

    Rest for what?

I knew this would happen. Whenever we play a game, we get a injury a day before. Phil Jones at it again.

Rest to preserve his fitness possibly. We are playing Mata and Di Maria today so that would leave little room for Falcao if both Rooney and RvP are in the mix.

I will be frustrated if it's the three shite at the back again

If i'm not mistaken the club tweet the team in the right positions therefore it should be a 4-4-2 diamond with Di Maria as the fast forward.

    Sky's got it as a 3142

    De Gea
    Jones - Smalling - Blind
    Carrick
Valencia - Mata - Di Maria - Shaw
    Van Persie - Rooney

Think Rooney could possibly be in midfield, with Di Maria up top, otherwise a midfield of Di Maria and Mata could be too lightweight for Wanyama and Schniederlin.

Herrera is clearly pegged as an attacking midfielder by LVG, despite so many on here desperately wanting him to see him as some kind of box-to-box guy. He's competing with Mata for a place probably.

He has been good and worthy of starting, its just he's competing with mata, Rooney, di maria and van Persie for a spot pretty much. Van Gaal said he likes having at most 4 players who are creative and attack minded, and while Herrera is a hard working midfielder, he's still attaxk minded so for him to start we'd need to probably drop van Persie or mata for him. Either way, they're all class players.

Yeah that is a huge part of the reason also. Though I don't think he is worthy of one anyway but to each's own.

Falcao has started the last 5 games I think, I was surprised he started all the games over Christmas just after returning. Hopefully he has just been given a break.

Think its a back 5 with Blind as the LCB.

Di Maria in the "Robben role". Shame Herrara isn't starting.

Could Shaw be the LCB and Blind the wingback ??

Shaw hasn't been great as a wing back, but Blind has played there and been good as well.

I can not believe Blind goes straight into the team after like 3 months injuried. Nevertheless, his industry has been severely missed in our midfield. More surprised he gets the nod over Herrera. Is it safe to say the latter is the new kagawa?

Falcao getting bench is also a surprise.

Absolutely not and that is ridiculous.

I'd rather Carrick in defence than Blind if one of them is to play there. Good team otherwise, I'll be surprised if we don't get the win.

Carrick and a kind together though

Expect us to be static, poor passing and concede 3.

Can't complain about the lineup, just the formation. Sadly, it looks like 3-5-2 is here to stay.

If i'm not mistaken the club tweet the team in the right positions therefore it should be a 4-4-2 diamond with Di Maria as the fast forward.

They don't. Just saw the Yeovil lineup tweet and Shaw was listed just above Falcao and Wilson.

This team should be comfortable on the ball. No Rafa on the bench either.

With everyone getting close to full fitness and when you add Rojo/Rafa/Januzaj/Falcao to the 18 man squad, we've actually got a good solid team of about 20/21 players.

Either that or Carrick as the main CB. Cynical cnuts the 2 of us

    :nono:

Carrick won't be CB. He'll never play 3 right footers in the same back 3 if he has left footed options available.

You should know Van Gaal's idiosyncrasies by now.

    Sky's got it as a 3142

    De Gea
    Jones - Smalling - Blind
    Carrick
Valencia - Mata - Di Maria - Shaw
    Van Persie - Rooney

Think Rooney could possibly be in midfield, with Di Maria up top, otherwise a midfield of Di Maria and Mata could be too lightweight for Wanyama and Schniederlin.
    Sorry, Shaw as a CAM?

Rooney in midfield and Di Maria up front is such a waste. Di Maria isn't Robben. Really don't understand that one.

Best looking line-up all season. Expecting a win; Van Gaal tends to come big in such occasions.

Excited to see Di Maria and Blind.

Shaw v Clyne should be nice.

It looks like a back 4 to me, Jones and Smalling at CB and Valencia and Shaw as fullbacks.

Just as easily drop Carrick or Blind into the back to make it a 3. I don't think he's happy with Valencia being a full right back

Can't complain about the lineup, just the formation. Sadly, it looks like 3-5-2 is here to stay.

Tbf at least this set up can easily transition to a diamond, 433/422 all deepening on how deep Carrick/Blind sit. I'd like if it was a diamond but can see it being a 532 but with Carrick and Blind it should work a lot nicer as they're more comfortable on the ball and can cover each other, allowing them to hopefully kick start attacks quicker than when they're not there.

It will be the exact same as it's been for previous weeks with Di Maria in for Falcao. Blind will be in midfield I reckon

Pleasantly surprised to see Blind start, thought him not being in the squad for Yeovil would knock his comeback back another week.

On paper at least, Blind and Carrick infront of the back 4 (and Rooney doing his usual tracking back when necessary) should give the players infront of them the license to bomb forward.
