So people think LVG will let a player who hasn't fit enough to play a full game to start? This is not CL final you know, we have 34 games left after this match and Shaw is an important player to risk like that.

He may want to give him 60 minutes instead of 30. It could easily be either Rojo or Shaw at left back, but I wouldn't take the manager's comments as ruling out Shaw from starting.

I wonder if shaw will start at lwb, with blind as defensive mid. Then shaw will come off with blind moving to lwb and fletcher coming on

3 at the back with Rojo central, Blackett left and Evans on the right seems risky.

Hope we go 4 at the back now whether it be a 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 diamond.

The only player currently not fit in my 4231 is Jones, and he's easily replaceable. I don't really mind playing 3 at the back just at this point I think 433 or 4231 would work better. It just screams of trying to fit in all our big names without really thinking about how the team will perform the best.
Yes but does that 4231 include any of Falcao, Shaw, Rojo, Rafael, Di Maria, Herrera, Blind? Apart from fleeting appearances from Herrera and DM these haven't been available so far this season.

    Plenty has changed.
The players he's bought fit the current formation just as well as any other. In fact adding another #9 would suggest further solidarity to 2 up front.

Well it seems like Shaw won't start.

    De Gea
    Valencia--Evans--Blackett--Rojo
    Blind--Herrera
    Mata--Di Maria
    Rooney--Falcao
subs: Lindegaard, Rafael, Shaw, Fletcher, Pereira, Januzaj, van Persie

Yes, 2 up front in a diamond, a formation which suits all of our signings as well as our current players.

As much as I don't like some of this, I believe the following are quite a possible come Sunday:

    1. LVG will stick with the 3-5-2
    2. Darren (Vice-captain) will almost certainly play but more likely as a sub.
    3. Rooney (Captain) will definitely start
    4. Falcao will probably come on from the bench for RVP
    5. Shaw will either start for the first 60mins, or come off the bench around the same time.

    So possibly:

    -----------------------De Gea---------------------

    -------------Evans---Blackett-----Rojo----------

    ---Rafael-------------------------------Shaw*---

    ----------Herrera------------Di Maria-----------

    ----------------------Mata------------------------

    -------------Rooney----------RVP*--------------

    *Blind for Shaw
    *Fletcher for Herrera
    *Falcao for RVP

But i would prefer to see this:

    -------------------De Gea---------------------

    Rafael--------Evans------Rojo---------Shaw*

    ---------------------Blind----------------------

    --------Herrera*------------Di Maria----------

    --------------------Mata-----------------------

    ----------Rooney ----------RVP*--------------

*Blackett for Shaw (Rojo and Blackett to swap positions)
    *Fletcher for Herrera
    *Falcao for RVP

    No.

We were playing with 3 at the back before rafael and shaw got injured. He started the 352 before anyone got injured. People need to remember that.

Because he didn't have his "specialist players". Now that we have Di Maria, we can play a 4-3-3 with a world class winger (finally), or we can play a 4-1-2-1-2 diamond like Liverpool, because we actually have a decent set of central midfielders in Blind, Herrera and Di Maria to play behind the attackers (and he can also continue playing a no 10 behind two strikers like he did in his 3-5-2). Just like with Netherlands, he played the 3-5-2 because of the situation, not because he wanted to. If Strootman was fit he would have played a 4-3-3 there as well.

    ------------DDG-------------
    Rafael-Evans-Blackett-Rojo
    ---------Blind-Herrera---------
    Januzaj---Rooney----DiMaria
    -----------vPersie------------

Almost there. Feels like we've been talking about this game forever. How will we line up, who'll start, etc. Can't remember a game in recent memory that I've been anticipating more than this. 4-0 or 5-1 bashing for me. We're gonna absolutely piss on QPR!

Losing Phil Jones is a bigger loss than what people think. Still think we will have too much going forward for them.

We're 4/1 to beat QPR, easy pickings.

    Can bet here: http://bit.ly/BETMUFC

    ----------------------------DDG-------------------------------
    Valencia(Rafael)-----Evans--------Blackett(Rojo)-----Rojo(Shaw)
    ---------------------------Blind--------------------------------
    ------------------Herrera---------Di Maria----------------------
    -------------------------Rooney(C)-----------------------------
    -------------------Falcao---------RVP--------------------------

I can't remember being this excited about a United game. Also can't do the score prediction as I think we'll win 13-0

    -------------------De Gea-------------------

    --Rojo--------Rojo--------Rojo-------Shaw---

    ------Di Maria-----Di Maria-----Di Maria-------

    -------------------Di Maria-------------------

    ----------Falcao----------Falcao--------------

    Ingenius:lol:

    If we persist with the back three;

    De Gea
    Evans - Blackett - Rojo
    Raf/Valencia - Herrera - Fletcher - Blind
    di Maria
    Rooney - Falcao

    If we move back to a back four;
    De Gea
    Rafael - Evans - Blackett - Rojo
    Blind
    Herrera - di Maria
    Mata
    Rooney - Falcao

I totally agree mate, can't see this happening. I think a back 4 with Blind as defensive mid who can effectively become a 3rd CB when required is more likely and sensible. Evans and Blackett at CB for me with Shaw starting at LB, later to be replaced by Rojo after an hour.

Smalling instead of Evans, given Jones' injury. Other than that, both of these are optimal.

The 3-4-1-2 is good in a sense that it's the best 3-4-1-2 we can field, otherwise it's complete garbage and we shouldn't play it. But if LvG persists with it, it should be enough to win against QPR.

The 4-1-2-1-2 is our best formation. I can see us challenging against City, Chelsea and the like with it.

van Gaal says that Smalling is set to resume training tomorrow, didn't he? I don't think he's fully fit.

We're too weak at CB to play Rojo at LB, and too weak in midfield to play Blind there either imo, which is why i can see Shaw starting. Unless we use Di Maria or Januzaj as a LWB in a 352.

Its 3 at the back people, get used to it, nothing has changed to suggest otherwise.

You mean apart from the fact we haven't even won a match playing it yet, and we've played relegation fodder. Apart from that yeah?

On the contrary. He means in spite of that.

    And he's right

So it's down to the formation not the players, inciteful, maybe we should get ride of LVG too, hasn't won a competitive game yet.

With our options, I'll play 4-3-1-2 - like this.

    De Gea
    Rafa Evans Rojo Blind
    Herrera Fletcher Di Maria
    Mata
    RVP Falcao

    ------------DDG-------------
    Rafael-Evans-Blackett-Rojo
    ---------Blind-Herrera---------
    Januzaj---Rooney----DiMaria
    -----------vPersie------------

A perfectly balanced team, with everyone playing in positions they are comfortable with. I dream of the day we see something like that.

    In short, yes.
Sure, so what formation / starting line up would've you played? Bare in mind you can't pick Shaw, Rojo, Rafael, Herrera, Di Maria, Falcao or Blind.

4 at the back. Quite simply really, it is what British defenders like Evans, Blackett, Smalling, Jones etc have been brought up on. The main problem is the defence and the fact they are so fecking uncomfortable in what he is asking them to do because they've never played it in their lives. Ashley Young and Lingard as wing backs? Sorry but that was downright ridiculous to ask them to do that. And British players are notoriously thick, I don't think they can pick a new system up and change what they know.

So let's see your set up.

got Falcao in the fantasy footy team, and also intending to buy a FALCAO 9 shirt on Sunday, so he's got to start!

So let's see your set up.

What, for games that have already been? Err, what's the point in that? :wenger: This is the QPR match thread and everyone is looking forward now.

For the record, I would have picked 4-2-3-1 in all games with Rooney as a lone striker, Mata behind and 2 proper wingers. Y'know, a formation and positions that these players actually understand. Our new signings mean we have hopefully seen the death of the woeful 3-5-2 system.

    Rafael-Evans-Blackett-Rojo

Swap Di Maria and Rooney, and put in Falcao for van Persie (maybe not as soon as Sunday though) and we're looking really good.

 you know exactly why, you are condemning the formation based on those games, and I am arguing it's the players. You don't want to post a team because you know as well as I do whatever formation you put them in it'll look weak as, it illustrates my point.

How does signing another #9 indicate a change in formation? We sold Welbeck who is far more suited to a 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 and replaced him with someone who can only play centre forward.

As long as that awful Valencia doesn't start!
I'm praying Rafael will be fit and will stay fit. I think he will have a fantastic season once this squad starts to gel if he can.
