You mean the old era when the whole league had no clue about such player and basically played with thugs which often left their midfield open and made it easy for our team, even when we deployed an archaic 4-4-2 tactic? There's also a reason City tends to fail in europe despite their impressive squad because they either don't have a player to set their tempo against top teams or deploy Silva well enough to do that for them.I don't know where to start but here goes Di Maria and Herrera are not similar in fact I'd say they compliment each other well. You talk about the need for a playmaker but that's not always needed (think Keane Ince and there's many more like this) We now have one of Carrick or Blind as a 6 and both them are hardly poor on the ball. Once we get the proper movement and patterns of play we will be a delight to watch with the quality we now have.
You say Kagawa had a good game and I won't argue but I think LVG was meaning Kagawa was picking the wrong pass and therefore this disrupts the pattern of play. I'm disappointed that LVG has not impressed you but I'd say give it time as he's only been here 10mins and most of his signings are yet to take the field or play together. Rojo Shaw Herrera Falcao Blind and even Di Maria has only had 60 mins. Plus we are only going to improve further by the players playing with each other and learning each others strengths and weaknesses.
This and nothing else please!--------------De Gea--------------
Rafael---Evans---Rojo---Shaw
---------------Blind---------------
-------Herrera-----Di Maria-------
-----------Mata(Januzaj)--------------
----------Rooney-------Falcao--------
No goalkeeper then!I'm really desperate to see a 4-4-3, but my gut says LVG won't change and will still go 3-5-2.
How can our strongest XI have Wayne Rooney playing in the number 10 position when we have 2 or 3 better options in that role, one of them not even in that team - Mata.
You say keeping possession is the aim yet Rooney has a poor first touch and often loses the ball, especially in compassion to Mata.

I strongly agree I like that formation but Mata has to be the number 10, especially with the pace of Di Maria and Adnan passing him he will have a field day supplying them. Although that leaves Rooney RVP and Falcao to go in the one position :/How can our strongest XI have Wayne Rooney playing in the number 10 position when we have 2 or 3 better options in that role, one of them not even in that team - Mata.

I'm excited about tomorrow's match. It's really the time for us to start showing some good football and getting a win. Multiple new signings, few players leaving and it's the time for those who earned LVG's trust to show up.
Ok, so Costa got a hatrick today, so for fantasy footy purposes, can Falcao either smash loads, or not play at all (vice captain Costa)
Don't hold your breath. Falcao will certainly start, just as Di Maria went straight in.
I'll be pleased to see him start. I'm intending to get into fanboy mode with a Falcao 9 shirt.
I conducted my own poll on facebook to make sure it's acceptable behaviour for a man of my age
De GeaDon't see why he won't give all the superstars a chance to see if they can make this work, then if It is not working due perhaps to Rooneys touch having a bad day (bring Mata in) or lacking width (bring Januzai on for Herrera)
Rafael - Evans - Rojo - Shaw
Herrera -Blind - Di Maria
Rooney
Falcao RVP

As a matter of fact, Silva should be playing in the central role for City and not on the wing because it was in the central role he had a fantastic 1st half debut season until he was moved to the wing in the 2nd half and this led to the drop in his performance. I also remembered him outclassing the likes of Xavi, Iniesta and co in City 2-0 loss to Barca. Silva was the best player in that match and he did that from a central role! Infact, that was City's best performance in europe, eventhough they lost the match due to their poor finish.
I would even say the reason behind City winning the league twice now is because they had Silva who still made efforts to drop deep from the wing to dictate their tempo, even when he isn't given the liberty to do such. It isn't a coincidence we won the league from them the moment our ginger man- Scholes returned to the team! That should at least give us a reality check!
Like I said earlier, Herrera and Di Maria are similar player in the midfield. They don't control games but provide fantastic energy with their forward drives and can also add a bit of creativity. it's no use trying to change them because it will only create a problem trying to change their style, which it's already a problem with Herrera because the only time he was at his best was when he had a free reign in the Galaxy game and yeah, Kagawa controlled that game. Infact, Kagawa was one of our best players in the 2nd half of that game when many subs were rung in.
Another is the Roma game where the team failed to control the midfield in the 1st half with the likes of Herrera, Mata, Fletcher having terrible performances. It wasn't a coincidence the team controlled the midfield better the moment Kagawa came on the pitch in the 2nd half, even Van Gaal said the team's passing was better in the 2nd half. Infact after Rooney, Kagawa was our best player in that game and that was because Rooney had a goal and an assist. So Van Gaal coming up with Kagawa doesn't want to fulfil my philosophy is basically bullshit to me.
If I go with what my gut tells me, I would probably doubt him the more but to allow peace to reign, I will just say maybe Van Gaal thought the subs made in the 2nd half were all rubbish due to the team difficulty in scoring goals but the truth is, the 2nd half team hardly played with strikers nor quality ones which was quite glaring against Inter and Madrid.
Back on topic, we're in a new era where playmaking midfielders are required. This season, Chelsea has one in Fabregas, Pool has a makeshift one in Gerrard and a decent one in Allen, City and Arsenal have one in Silva and Carzola respectively, eventhough they don't deploy them well enough to take charge but at least they have such players whereas we have none!
In short he liked Kagawa and not Mata - thankfully we kept MataFeck me that was a long read, ill just agree to disagree.

Funnily enough I was! Problem now is I feel like I've got my hopes uncontrollably high for this game, so there is only one way they can go from hereAnyone feel like sleeping today off (if you can) , so you can get on with tomorrow? Can't wait!
Well my expectation is a win. Not a storming win. Just enough to show improvement. Beyond that would be a bonus!Funnily enough I was! Problem now is I feel like I've got my hopes uncontrollably high for this game, so there is only one way they can go from here
That's my realistic expectation, but I can't help but get caught up in the post-window-signing excitement!Well my expectation is a win. Not a storming win. Just enough to show improvement. Beyond that would be a bonus!
