That midfield is awful. I don't mind the rest of the team though. I hope we win, the other teams remaining are weak with the two exceptions of Arsenal and Liverpool.
What part is awful? Playing a kid in the league cup? The Brazil captain? Or our £50 million signing playing in his preferred position?

Surely Varane didnt get injured on the bench at the weekend?

    Sit on a splinter?

    Onana
    Dalot - Lindelof - Maguire - Reguilon
    Amrabat - Mainoo
    Mount - Hannibal - Garnacho
    Martial
Don't give a feck if we lose, I just want to see Mainoo and Hannibal get minutes and to have a break from watching Bruno and Rashford.
    Close!

Newcastle's B team. They are there for the taking. No excuses. I don't rate this competition, but we need the win.

It is not the biggest title, but I think CL and the league to win is gone and top 4 look lost too.

Watch us play the best football we have all season with this line-up and then ETH immediately revert to the line-up that failed for 13 games in a row for the Fulham game. Would anyone be surprised?

Well Antony clearly not happy about being left out of the Manchester Derby. Lets see if he can prove the manager wrong and bag a few goals/assists tonight. If he's going to complain he has to perform when he gets the opportunity

I have the feeling he's making a statement, some of these players are being given the chance to step up.
Lets hope they take up the challenge

    Sit on a splinter?

He may well have fractured a rib as a result of his jaw dropping onto his chest after the news that Jonny Evans was picked over him for tactical reasons on Sunday.

carling cup is our best chance to get a trophy, so hopefully we can turn things today

Going for a score draw (1-1) with the match being decided by penalties.

Optimisitc about this lineup, especially with Garnacho, Mount, and Mejbri in. Hope to see better passing and movement through the midfield.

Happy that certain players have been dropped. It should have happened weeks ago

I think they will struggle to control the play from midfield. It's quite a combative trio.

Where are the goals coming from?

Martial has had a couple of decent cameos this season and whilst I am not expecting any goals in games that really matter he could get one tonight. We know there will be some decent service with Garnacho playing and I expect us to press with a lot more intensity with Hannibal and Mount in there so we ought to get a few chances on quick turnovers.

That Newcastle team looks poor, we should be winning tonight. I'm skipping all or most of the game in any case - rather not have any scheduled disappointment or boredom. Hopefully we get a good win and enjoy the highlights though

Love watching the interviews on MUTV of fans pregame - especially the kids! So good!

When did 8.15pm weekday kickoffs become a thing? It’s just too late to start a football match, especially one that could go to penalties. 8pm should be the absolute limit.

Expect us to show that we’re a better team without Rashford and Fernandes. Too bad Hag will get them back into the starting eleven against Fulham even if Garnacho and Mount score 4 goals each.

433? When was the last time we played 433? Do you count McTominay or Bruno as part of midfield?
We always play 433 these days. We've switched to not use a double pivot and pretty often have 2 roaming 8/10's with 1 sitting mid. They float around, but it's been a clear switch rather than before having 2 players start deep and 1 central 10.

They will be back in this game by 60 min mark

Or Antony finally hits one of his 3 curlers of the season.

Where on earth is Varane? Not even in the squad. He can't be injured again...
