It can be very effective. But it sure as hell wont be pretty.

You do have to question how we've got ourselves into this situation though.
We have Wilson and Martial about. Clearly our faith in youth is not as strong as Van Gaal likes to have made out.

Why do Sky Sports not factor into account all the players that have left and the money that has come in, Louis van Gaal's net spend is reasonable (this season).

Fellaini was good large parts of last season as a striker and only shit under moyes in mf. why the bashing? hope he scores and prove the doubters wrong

Don't see anything pathetic in showing some support for the team before a big derby like this. But instead, people prefer to only take the negative emotions because the easiest thing is to be a moaning little teenage girl.

Don't take everything for granted and you might actually enjoy a bit of footy for a change.

    Post lad.

On the upside guys, at least Rooney is not playing. So people who said that LVG is scared to bench him has PROVEN YOU WRONG!

So it's not pathetic to be firmly up Van Gaal's arse? The stuff Van Gaal is doing would of seen Moyes ripped to shreds. This is the philosophy? Fellaini upfront. We already play crap, slow, football and now Fellaini is upfront.
Just give it a rest, really.

Why don't you wait and see what happens in the match you clown.

Memphis needs to get close to Fellaini. Mata too.

    He's not benched though :p

Wonder how Martial will do when he gets on? Hoping its a Ronaldo type debut and not like Bebe's one!

9/11, did not expect Herrera to start. Hopefully he has a big game, otherwise i think he'll be taken off in the second half for Martial, and Fellaini drops behind hm.

Seems a bit extreme no? Is there no middle ground with you?

    Regarding Martial.
    Hehehe.
Unfortunately for the huge outlay, we will only keep him if he is outstanding. If he turns out to be average and sits on the bench most of the time, then he will get sold.
When you pay big money (eg, Di Maria) that player needs to start games and deliver. If he turns into an average player, he will be sold on.
Examples are: Di Maria, Veron, Bervatov - the moment you are "average", you are out.

Martial will need to prove himself over the next 2-3 years and "average" won't cut it.

End of the world reactions about Fellaini playing up front. I think he'll do well

It's a very narrow line up from Liverpool, if we could Shaw and Darmian on the overlap then Fellaini going to be a real danger with balls into the box.

We'll see, if he is a nuisance for the centre backs and creates space for the three behind the football could be good. Louis van Gaal likes his 9 to do a lot of work off the ball for that very reason but since Fellaini isn't a proper 9 it will be interesting to see how he uses him.

Edit - posted before Carragher robbed my point.

Good experience in the middle, happy to see the same back four again looks like we are settled now, great to see De Gea back.

That front 4 is dodgy though. Still got enough quality but not one of them is seriously stand out. Still, at home against Liverpool we should be fired up.

I'd prefer the some of those ex players

    But maybe that's just me

Can't say I'm not disappointing that a club of United's stature starts with Fellani as their main number 9 up front.

Hope he has an absolute stormer. He's got a good attitude and is a fighter. Hopefully he controls his elbows.

They are all about 8 to 10 years older than him when they joined. Big difference. His age will mean he will have a little more time.

Don't hold your breath, he's scored and performed well again and again, doubters will never give over.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not exactly ecstatic that he's starting as our only striker though. I'm sure Martial will start ahead of him as he gets some games under his belt.

Well, it depends on how you describe "running". The typical definition in British football may be different to the German one. You'll see many people in here saying Schweinsteiger and Carrick "can't run". That's the definiton I'm talking about. You can easily play fast-paced football with these two.

Anyway, I don't get all the panic in here. If there's one thing van Gaal's shown in his time here it's that he knows how to set his teams up for the big games. We've been almost flawless so far in matches like this.

    Agreed.

Sky Sports Germany is a bigger shithouse. They're showing the Istanbul documentary before kickoff. Dickheads.
