Get at them. They don't have an answer, no plan B when opposition don't let them play their natural game. Stay solid, press as a team. Have a few well rehearsed set piece routines, just in case. Don't drop off untill we're well clear. Let's twat these Spice boys MK II and their german hipster manager.Cmoon United !!..!!

I think Mourinho will take inspiration from the way we performed in the games against Arsenal and Spurs and will be feeling confident about going for a win here. He'll want to be as compact as possible so if we do get clear-cut chances we really need to be more clinical here than in any other game. I personally wouldn't mind scoring one early and then protecting the lead and playing on the counter for the rest of the game, if we do that I think we could win by a couple of goals provided Smalling doesn't turn into a pussy. All in all I'm more optimistic about protecting slender leads now than I was in November of course.

    @RobinLFC @Klopper76 @Cassady @Rafateria @Speedy30 @B20 And Liverpool fans I've missed:

What are your thoughts for Sunday? Score predictions?
As above. Worried about our injury situation. We can't afford to have 5 1st teamers missing (inc. Mane). However Physioroom has them all back on the 15th. We'll see from Klopp's presser.

I expect to see Coutinho - Firmino - Lallana starting, Coutinho has already been up to speed for 4 full training sessions so shouldn't be an issue an all. Henderson and Milner shouldn't be a problem either though Matip does seem to be rather fragile, touch and go there - he'll need to get minutes tonight or he's out (or on the bench). That front line (with Wijnaldum just in behind and Sturridge to come on) should love United's defence (bar Valencia, I like him, seems like a good lad and a classy FB) and Carrick and Pogba, Herrera will have to work his legs off again. You just might need De Gea to save your asses yet again.

Ditto United's attack up against a Matip-less defence (if that's what transpires). Not too worried about the FBs (Clyne and Milner) as they have proved themselves very robust, I would be worried if it was Lovren & Ragnar in the centre though. Can see Mkhitaryan, Martial and Ibrahimovic getting some joy though.

Tough one to call now that United's confidence is back up there (never have guessed that from reading RC). Not sure how we'll handle being Mane-less, even though he hasn't been brilliant of late he scares the shit out of defences and he often crops up to score or assist even on an off-day. We seem to have done just finr when subbing him off early though.

2-1, 1-1, 1-0, 2-2, 1-2 ..... in that order ! We have a tough period coming up and just need to stay in touch with all the other teams at the top until we are through March, then I expect to see us really motor on.

However all of this could be moot as the game could be postponed (fingers crossed) :D Snow is expected to fall Wednesday to Friday and then on Saturday night freezing temperatures. As I saw it mentioned elsewhere, it could be like an ice skating rink in and around Old Trafford.

    Herrera - Pogba
    Micky - Zlatan - Martial

Mata, Rashford, and Rooney/Fellaini to come on, depending on how the game turns out.

i like this line-up.. i though would make just one change against Liverpool because of their gegen-pressing, swap Carrick and Herrera. Herrera can play a holding role as it was his, in his previous club. Mata in place of Herrera. Carrick i know is the best holding player for us but i think only for Liverpool, we need a little pace. What do you think?

Heh, would be surprised to see this game being cancelled despite snow warnings. Hoping for a fair, injury free game.

Your lot couldn't muster up much against us at Anfield, and we were low on confidence and not embedded in our system. Perhaps we'll rely on our goalkeeper to do his job. Or maybe you'll get fortunate with Ibrahimovic not converting headers from 2 yards out again, or maybe you won't.

They really don't remember much clearly do they

It's more the danger posed for fans getting to / from the game - I've no doubt the pitch would be in fine fettle.

Maybe Ibra will miss another (not a certainty to score last time even if he did get it on target as the GK was right there) or maybe this time De Gea won't be able pull off another worldie.

We've done the Anfield game to death on here. United fans thought it a defensive masterclass, Liverpool fans thought that for 30 mins United ran their guts out to nullify us (and it worked, but was not sustainable) followed by most of the rest of game with 10 men behind the ball, spoilt the game as a contest/spectacle but Mourinho got what he came for ... a single point. I don't think this game will be anything like that .. at least I hope not.

We've won 9 games on the bounce so obviously we are going to carry the momentum into the game. Having said that, we were expected to win at least 8 out of those 9 games. So this match is our first big test since Spurs. We will need to bring our top energy into this game and most importantly when we get chances in front of goal, we need to take them.

Win and I'll be a happy camper.
Lose and it will ruin my whole goddamn week.
    Same here.

My mood for the weekend is pretty emotionally tied to our the result of our games, I usually get over a loss by the start of the work week. But Liverpool? If we lose I'll be grumpy for at least a week

Don't get me wrong I think we were terribly negative in the match, from a spectacle perspective. But as you say Jose got what he came for and you can hardly blame such an approach when bullish teams that have gelled with a proper system (such as City, Arsenal) have come to Liverpool and been spanked.

These are instances where I am chuffed to have Mourinho over Pep, Wenger or even Klopp. He strategically knows when to fight!

I expect tomorrow to be different two with 1) Mourinho knowing there is a chance to reduce the gap 2) our formation and personelle actually well settled and 3) the fortune that Liverpool are more lacking a full team than we are.

Not to mention avoiding all media. Bad thing is every time I say I'll avoid it I never do it and torture myself that way.

So nervous about this game. It really is season-defining.

We're in great form and I do think we will win, but it could go either way and Liverpool will always worry me. They've always stepped it up against us and against top sides in general and that certainly hasn't changed under Klopp.

    I'll predict a 2-1 win.

    De Gea
    Valencia Jones Rojo Blind
    Carrick
    Herrera Pogba
    Mkhitaryan Ibrahimovic Martial
My guess is darmian and Smalling come in for rojo who is probably injured and blind. Pains me to leave out Mata, but thats just our best front 6 in terms of getting the whole package defensively and going forward. If Mata is to start, then he replaces Martial. Martial should start though, he's torn liverpool and clyne apart on a few occasions already.

To be fair it was the highlight of the match for them. All downhill from there :D

The SUHD released DVD of that magnificent header was phenomenal viewing on 72". Right up three with Arsenal's "we won a throw in" and our own "net spend". Boy do we look foolish now. :D

Anyhow, my opinion (thanks for asking @VP89 ) is that we'll have to wait and see how sharp and ready Lallana and particularly Fimino look tonight. If they're on the blob I can see them running circles around your static-ish midfield (barring Herrera). But if Firmino, in particular again, is still sub-par then the absence of Mane will be deeply felt. So, on blob I'm hoping for a tight victory. Not on blob, draw and no injuries please.

Edit: and if Jose's track record is anything to go by I expect Fellaini to start.

The midfield is usually Carrick with Herrera and Pogba in front of him. Hard to see how Fellaini could start ahead of any of them on Sunday

I suspect sacrificing one of your flair players or maybe Carrick himself but that does seem unlikely as Carrick was rested in the cup game. So the former I guess.

Noticed the media and pundits are hyping us up a bit recently, in the lead up to this game, feels good, hopefully it all continues.

No. Carrick has to play. Without him the team is nowhere near the same level. It's very rare Carrick lack of pace affects him, he reads the game so well he is never caught out plus he isn't as slow as portrayed.

Jose will be out there with a hairdryer to get this game played!

Your assessment is pretty fair, only comment from me is that you slightly underestimate our defence. I know on paper it doesn't look great but we've been very solid at the back this season. Third best in the league I think.

 Sorry I left you out mate, but I did say any other liverpool fans!

Thing is, as another poster said, form goes out the window in these sort of games. The match rhythm your players earn today will be useful for Sunday.

Also, by static midfield bar Herrera, can you explain why you feel Pogba is static? I can understand Carrick but Pogba too?

    @RobinLFC @Klopper76 @Cassady @Rafateria @Speedy30 @B20 And Liverpool fans I've missed:

What are your thoughts for Sunday? Score predictions?

Tough one to be honest. We can expose your defensive frailties (and by that, I mean that I think your full backs will struggle against Firmino and Coutinho) as much as you can expose ours. A midfield of Henderson, Wijnaldum and Lallana with Coutinho, Firmino and, I'd imagine, Sturridge ahead of them has enough creativity to take the game to you. That said, it's not exactly like you're light in attack either.

I think it will come down to whose defence loses concentration earliest. Milner has been brilliant at LB, Clyne is a decent RB and if Matip is back, I'll be a lot more confident than I am right now.
Lovren has improved but still has mistakes in him which Zlatan will love to exploit and Mignolet is still Mignolet.
I'm going for a 2-2 draw as I think the attacks on both sides are too good not to score again but I think our defences will level it out.

    This will be difficult.

    For Liverpool. I agree.

Liverpool are playing some very good football.

We are playing better than Liverpool.

We need to nullify them but higher up the pitch compared to last time.

No, Liverpool need to try and nullify us. We the big team and Liverpool will need to try and prevent us from scoring and their best chance is to hit us on the break and score a lucky goal from 1 shot on target...a la Arsenal.
If Liverpool attempt to "play" and dominate us, they'll get steam rolled like the last 9 team we have played.

I'm going for a 2-2 draw as I think the attacks on both sides are too good not to score again but I think our defences will level it out.

I'd say MUFC have the better defence and lets not ignore the De Gea factor.
Generally against LFC, De Gea tends to put in MOTM performances, so I expect this to happen again on Sunday.
Put it this way, if you guys had DDG in your goal, I'd be worried about us scoring any goals.

I always worry about De Gea as he does save you a lot. That said, it's not like we haven't scored goals against you with him playing.

What do our resident scousers think of Clyne?
Consistently a 6 or 7 out of 10 every game. He's decent but there's at least three or four RB's in the league who are better than him.

What do our resident scousers think of Clyne?
Very good player that has a brilliant cross on him and is a danger when attacking. He gets caught out of position sometimes but that's mainly down to how high up our full backs play and his relative inexperience. He'll get better as the years go on and I think he has a very high ceiling

Isn't the only position that's a bit uncertain the left side? Feels like Liverpool would try to use that side. Wouldn't Darmian be a better choice than Blind in this case? Martial is in form but Mourinho could probably give Lingard a chance given the fact that Liverpool are going to run a lot.

I'm not sure Liverpool will just come and give way to United, it is more open than many fans are saying here.

Martial-Ibra-Miki front line plz with Carrick/Pogba/Herrera behind. Martial has been looking excellent in recent weeks and loves a game vs Liverpool.
