This is our biggest game of the season by far. It really is make or break as we would have some quite favourable fixtures right up until March (as we have to expect to make the League Cup Final, meaning City away would be pushed back). We play Stoke away (PL) [their home form isn't quite what it used to be with W4D4L3], Hull away (LC), Wigan home (FAC), Hull home (PL), Leicester away (PL), Watford home (PL), followed by the Saint-Etienne fixtures and probable League Cup Final (albeit most likely against Liverpool as well) throughout January and February.
Liverpool
I'll be trying to look at this from a Liverpool fan perspective, so any 'pool posters on here feel free to voice at me if you don't agree. I think Liverpool can be pretty happy with a draw here, even if it gives their title hopes a bit of a set-back. It'll be extremely difficult for them to win the title if Chelsea have already won before this game happens and may change their mind-set. However, given that they're probably going to be missing quite a few more players than us (or at least some who still won't be 100%), the fact we're at home, have 24 hours extra rest/prep time and are in excellent form, a draw can't be seen as a bad result.
Us
Got to win if we want to be in the equation, though it's more likely to be a "who finishes 2nd behind Chelsea" kind of thing unless the big teams can all do what Spurs did to some extent. A draw doesn't do us too many favours, but given our run of fixtures we could probably expect to sneak into fourth by mid-February. We've got practically everything going for us, so we need to capitalize on it now. Failure to win here will honestly feel like this amazing run of results was a waste.
Line-up
I believe Jose has basically known the team to play this game for a couple of weeks now and it has to be this:
de Gea
Valencia Jones Rojo Blind
Herrera Carrick Pogba
Mkhitaryan Ibrahimovic Martial
Looking over the past two fixtures, anyone who played the majority of both games doesn't start on Sunday IMO, with the exception of Jones or Smalling due to the complication with Rojo's fitness. de Gea, Valencia, Carrick, Herrera, Pogba, Mkhitaryan and Ibrahimovic are first-choice so play if fit. Jones & Rojo is a partnership we shouldn't need to split just yet even though I'm a big advocate of Smalling (so obviously have no qualms if he has to play). Blind missed yesterday so has to be the favorite to play Left Back. Martial didn't start last night, so will play on the left side of the attack.
Subs bench will include Romero, Smalling, Fellaini, Mata, Rooney, and Rashford with one of Darmian/Young/Fosu-Mensah/Lingard taking the final spot in the squad.
Going for a 2-1 United win, but I think we'll make hard work of it.
