    De Gea
    Valencia Jones Rojo Blind
    Carrick
    Fellaini Rooney
    Di Maria
    Falcao Wilson

Januzaj and Herrera should start, but there's no doubt Van Gaal will play Fellaini and Carrick

Start Herrera please. Our best midfielder ffs and he doesn't start because he's the only one willing to take risks and makes chances. No chance on seeing this lineup, probably the our best XI though:
    De Gea
    Rafael Jones Rojo Shaw
    Carrick Blind
    Herrera Mata Di Maria
    Rooney

    This formation please.
I like the team as well.

Would have Smalling in for Jones, Blind for Shaw, Herrera in midfield and Januzaj wide right but otherwise exactly this.

Our best run of form was with Fellaini in the side, I'm sorry to say but he's an important member of the squad and we can't argue with Louis picking him because with him, we get results more often than not.

I wont be happy with anything less than absolute embarrassment of these cheating *****.

    De Gea
Rafael - Smalling (if fit) - Rojo - Shaw
    Carrick - Blind
    Herrera
    Rooney - - - - - Di Maria
    Falcao

I've gone for 5-0 to Leicester. I'll see anything other than that as a bonus.

I would love it if for a change we decided to play with 2 central midfielders. It's nonsense that we insist on playing Carrick as our only midfielder and then complain about hoof balls from the defense.

I say TWO central midfielders from now on.

    De Gea

Rafael (Valencia can't cross or contribute in attack much)
    Jones (Only fit right CB)
    Rojo (only fit left CB)
Shaw (Time to make the positon his own)

Carrick (Can he have a partner please)
Herrera (Yes, I am there, bud)

Di Maria (Needs his pace and ability to run from deep)
Mata (He is a 10, not a CM)
Januzaj (Can take on players and bring some excitement along with Di Maria)

Rooney (All other strikers are shit)

    De Gea
    Rafael Jones Rojo Shaw
    Carrick Herrera
    DiMaria Mata Januzaj
    Rooney
Let's stuff them cnuts. Play with pace, play more direct.

    What I expect:

    De Gea
    Valencia Jones Rojo Blind
    (Rojo and Blind always play)
    Carrick
    Fellaini Rooney
(Who will you hoof it too if I am out) (Captain always plays in the wrong position)
    Mata
    (Who am I?)
    RVP DiMaria
    (We suck, but we play)
    Another dire performance.

    United 2 - 1.

I really really doubt we'll see Rooney up front alone at any point this season even though most people want it. I expect him in midfield with RvP and Di Maria upfront.

As long as Pearson doesn't pick Clattenburg we'll be fine for 3 points.

    It's payback time.

Although Tottenham might disagree after yesterday, we couldn't ask for a better team to rock up at Old Trafford in the league right now.

Pick some actual fullbacks at fullback, 4 at the back, actual mids in midfield, and actual strikers only up front.
    That should be enough.

Think we'll see the graphic below.

Got a feeling Mata tweaked something and is being monitored. Given how they hurt us last time round, can't see Louis shaping up without a back 3 unfortunately. However I can see Blind continuing to play and Carrick stepping into defence ahead of Jones and Evans at present.

These players can also become 4-2-3-1, 4-3-1-2 or 4-3-3 without further subs.

Considering what Leicester did to us the last time we faced them, and the revelation by LvG about his twitchy backside, i expect something like the following formation. I think Smalling and Evans will be out.

But would prefer to see something like this. Rooney can be changed with Mata if needed.

I reckon we will see something like this unfortunately.

    --------------------De Gea---------------
    ----------Jones----McNair-----Rojo-------
    Valencia-----------------------------Blind
    -----------Carrick-----Di Maria-------
    -------------------Mata----------------
    -------------Rooney---Van Persie------

With Jones on all set pieces. Even goal kicks.

I have no idea why there are still people who wants to have Rooney in midfield! He is not good there.. Play as striker or bench warmer!

    What I'd like to see:

    ----------------------DDG
    Rafael-----Smalling------Rojo------Shaw
    -------------------Carrick--------------
    ---------Herrera---Blind--Di Maria
    ---------------Mata--------------------
    ---------------------Rooney

Mata has a good record in these type of games

    DDG
    Rafael-Smalling-Rojo-Shaw
    Blind-Herrera
    Januzaj-Mata-Di Maria
    Rooney

Wishful thinking, I know. But the team above would slaughter Leicester imho.

It's not that I want it, it's that I can see that line up happening.

As per every game against lowly opposition I expect this will be the game things 'click'.

Forever hopeful of a match where I don't nearly fall asleep

We need some revenge over this mob. If the players can't dig out a performance here then I don't know what'll motivate them!

We got humiliated earlier in the season.

Once again I see us struggling against a lower opponent who will close de space and try to break us in counter. I’m confident for a victory, but I’ll go for a poor 1-0 on corner or a deflected free kick.. Ooh I forgot, still 3-5-2 and poor play

    ---------------------------------------------De Gea-------------------------------------------

    -----------------------------Jones---------Carrick- ----------Rojo--------------------------

    Valencia-----------------------------------Blind---------------------------------------Shaw

    --------------------------------Rooney-----------------Mata---------------------------------

    ----------------------------------------RVP-------Di Maria------------------------------------

If he plays Di Maria up top again, hes a fool.

    .
Leicester are in good form this January actually. A draw at Anfield followed by winning 3 out of 4 games.

He rested Roo and Mata so I can’t see how he can bench one of them, and Rooney, like Mata are midfielders now so there’s no doubt he will play this team. Adding that he defended his 3-5-2 after QPR game and Di Maria’s position

I would love us to come back to 4-1-4-1 with Valencia and Januzaj out wide, Roo and Di Maria inside, it won’t

I expect we'll get the 3 points. But I don't expect a Hull-style walkover, even if we did play the magical 4-4-2 with Herrera starting . Leicester will be more up for it than Hull were.
God knows it'd be nice to beat up on a team though, and avoid the meltdown on here for a week at least.

The "we're awesome, don't worry" reactions after a positive performance aren't that much better than the meltdowns, at least IMO.

There's nowhere else for di Maria in the 352, except for the #10 role where there are 2 other players better suited to it. Unless we play with 4 at the back he'll be up top again.

Except in his first game, he played CM in the 3-5-2 vs Burnley, and he played very well.
On top of that, I'm not sure there are actually 2 better player suited to the no10 (or attacking mid) role tbh.

Would like to see Januzaj feature more than Wilson, he looks sharper at the moment. Hopefully Herrera starts along with Blind in midfield and Shaw back at LB.

    --------------De Gea---------
    Raf-----Smalling------Rojo------Shaw

    -------------Blind----------
    Herrera-------------Di Maria

    ------------Mata-----------
    --------Rooney-------Falcao

We'll most likely concede with this but feck it, at least the football has a good chance to be entertaining and we should certainly be able to outscore them using this formation with these players in their best position.

    3-1 I would say.

I'd like to see something like this:

    ------------ DDG -------------
    Rafa -- Jones -- Rojo -- Shaw
    ---------- Carrick --------
    -- Herrera ---------- Blind --
    Adnan --------------------AdM
    ----------- Rooney -----------

Three real passers of the ball in the middle, where we have been technically good. But pace on the wings to help us get up the field and make chances as well.

I've not idea what team or formation he will pick. The emphasis needs to shift to attack, especially as we need to avenge the previous result.

I wouldn't have Januzaj anywhere near the starting lineup at present. Get him out onloan. The poor kid looks like his confidence is shot to pieces.

I agree in principle that he should go out on loan, since there's no position he could really fill in the current formation.

If we were to adopt a formation with actual wingers/inside forwards, then he has a chance. It might take time for him to get up to speed, but being liberated might do him some good.

We lose every time I put up a formation in the match day thread….so here we go:

    DDG
    Rafael - Jones - Rojo - Shaw
    Carrick - Herrera
Valencia - Rooney - Di Maria
    Falcao

    2-0 United
I think I've got more chance of seeing a king pandas hard on than that line up, but heres hoping eh?

At the moment we don't have the right players to be able to keep possession and be perfectly balanced as a team. As long as we are aware of our this I'm sure we will be fine. At home we are expected to take risk, and I'ms sure Leicester will press high in which case Fellaini is not ideal. Herrera-Blind-Di Maria centrally could work.

As to our recent games; I'm missing a clear plan from LvG with specific roles for each player. It might simply be our players not being able to execute his plan properly or that they somehow aren't actually aware of where he wants them to be. This shouldn't be too difficult to fix, but it's a big problem damaging our play.

It's as if the overall game plan and the specific instructions for each players are contradicting. If we want to play long we keep Fellaini up top, but if our goal is to maintain possession, in line with LvG's philosophy, we should have a lot more players further back. Players like Jones and Fellaini aren't horrible on the ball, and would benefit from having more players around them so that they can make an easy 6 yard pass instead of passing it 40 yards sideways out of lack of better options. I'm certain if we fix this part of our game the team will naturally be more balanced simply by the positions our players take up on the pitch, and Jones will ideally not have to cross the half-way line.
