He has to get this right, if we mess this up then the criticism will be deafening. The press are turning and they will go right for the throat.

    What i want to see:

    -----------DeGea--------
    Rafael-Jones-Rojo-Shaw
    Herrera-Carrick-DiMaria
    Valencia-Rooney-Januzaj

What i think we will see:

    ----------------DeGea-------------
    ---------Jones-Carrick-Rojo-------
    Valencia---------------------Shaw
    -----------Rooney-Blind-----------
    ----------------Mata---------------
    --------DiMaria-----vPersie-------

    Would love to see;

    De Gea
    Rafael Jones Rojo Shaw
    Herrera Carrick Di Maria
    Valencia V.Persie Januzaj

Not going to happen though. We'll almost certainly play 3-5-2 and create about two half chances (if we're lucky).

Genuine question: Why would your ideal team include Valencia? Not trying to be a dick, but I just can't imagine wanting Valencia to play, especially as an attacker.

Because Valencia and Blind have performed better than Rafael and Shaw this season, and they'll probably both end up injured before the game anyway.
Valencia is awful and I don't like Blind at FB, he has to be in front of the defence linking to the midfield. He gets the ball moving quicker. Carrick is too slow there.

I'd like to see something like this:

    ------------ DDG -------------
    Rafa -- Jones -- Rojo -- Shaw
    ---------- Carrick --------
    -- Herrera ---------- Blind --
    Adnan --------------------AdM
    ----------- Rooney -----------

Three real passers of the ball in the middle, where we have been technically good. But pace on the wings to help us get up the field and make chances as well.

I've not idea what team or formation he will pick. The emphasis needs to shift to attack, especially as we need to avenge the previous result.

Ideally it wouldn't but we only have Januzaj and Di Maria who plan play (well) out wide and Di Maria is better central. Maybe Rooney could do it.

I'd like us to switch to 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 next year and add a couple of wingers though.

    I see. That's fair enough.

As I said on another thread we're playing the team at the bottom of the league, at home. LVG will probably set us out to contain them then hope to nick a goal.

It just feels like we're never going to play well ever again and we took it for granted when we did - like when you've got a heavy cold and you hate yourself for not appreciating all those times you were able to breathe clearly through your nose.

Because Valencia and Blind have performed better than Rafael and Shaw this season, and they'll probably both end up injured before the game anyway.

This sport can be extremely simple indeed at times, so why would you proceed to complicate the task when there is little reason to do so? Blind was not bought to play at LB whist the first choice sits on the bench, and Valencia's frailties at RB are well enough known. If you were advocating the use of wingbacks perhaps i could understand your thinking, but even in that light Tony's recent form casts a degree of doubt.

Agree Rafael and Shaw. Carrick or Smalling in defence and Blind where he has put Carrick. Getting both Carrick and Blind in the team is causing as big a problem as playing two strikers.

Or just rotate Carrick out of the team for a spell, as the play has become a tad erratic of late. A mental breather you might say.

Very likely the following would be anathema to dear Louis, however let's secure ourselves a lead and then play Tetris with the football.

We need not only to create chances but also finish off teams like this one.

4-4-2 at least allow to create more chances and control the game at some parts of the match but if Louie's 100% sure that 3-5-2 is the winning formation then I may trust that for a bit longer.

Fergie took any win by any style or even lack of it. We need consistency in results so aim is to get the job done.

Last year, at around this time, we played Fulham, at OT, who were bottom of the table, which we drew after creating a record number of crosses.
This is effectively a similar game to last year, only this time, its LVG's turn to have a go.

I really hope we dont try and complicate things. This should be the team where were work on our goal difference.
Lets not complicate things and just play direct football (in the final third) and win this convincingly.
If we give these guys too much respect, I can easily see a draw on the cards.

IMO the formation is irrelevant - just lay siege to their goal, create 20 chances and score 5 of them.

Leicester just won at Spurs today, so won't be a pushover.

I'm pretty sure "we" won't but there's more than a good chance someone might "overthink" this one!

    352 i guess.

    DDG

    Rafael
    Jones
    Rojo
    Blind
    Shaw
    Carrick
    Di Maria
    Mata
    Falcao
    Rooney

Would prefer some sort of 4231 with DDG, Rafael, Jones, Rojo, Shaw, Carrick, Blind, Herrera, Di Maria, Rooney and Falcao.

    Wouldn't mind seeing this:

    ---------Dave
    Rafael Jones Rojo Shaw
    ---------Blind
    ---Herrera Di Maria
    --------Mata
    ---Rooney Falcao

    ---------Blind

LVG will say what about the balance and twitchy ass?

I'd like it but it will be very open.

    DDG
    Rafa Jones Rojo Shaw
    Blind
    Herrara Di Maria
    Mata Rooney Januzaj
    Let's fecking go for it

What I would play, but don't think Van Gaal will:

    De Gea
    Rafael - Jones - Rojo - Shaw
    Herrera - Carrick - Rooney
Di Maria - Falcao - Januzaj

Desperate to see Falcao up on his own.

Rooney to be the most advanced midfielder, Herrera dictating the play and Carrick holding.

    Prediction:

    De Gea

    Jones - Rojo - Blind

    Valencia - Carrick - Mata - Shaw

    di Maria

    Rooney - van Persie

    Wishing for:

    De Gea

    Rafael - Jones - Rojo - Shaw

    Blind/Carrick

    Fellaini - Herrera

    di Maria

    Rooney - van Persie/Falcao

    0-0 bore bloody draw.

Leicester have improved, while have just stagnated.

Surely won't play 3 via Leicester

I'd like to see (but won't)

    ----------------------De Gea-----------------------
    Rafael-----Jones---------Rojo------Shaw
    ----------------Carrick------Blind---------------
    Herrera------------Rooney---------Di Maria
    -----------------------RVP----------------------------

2-4-2-2 formations and absolutely spank the shite out of them.

Put Rojo on Vardy if he's even anywhere near the squad and give him a massive learning curve and feck him up a bit.

    De Gea

    Smalling - Rojo

Januzaj - Carrick - Blind - Di Maria
    Herrera - Mata
    Rooney - Wilson

Or if Vardy's is on the bench go for:

    De Gea

    Smalling

Januzaj - Carrick - Blind - Di Maria
    Herrera - Mata
    Rooney - Wilson

    Rojo
    Vardy

    17-0

What I want to see but will never happen:

    -------------De Gea-------
    Rafael--Carrick--Rojo--Shaw
    --------------Blind----------
    -------Herrera------Di Maria-
    ------------Januzaj---------
    ------Rooney-------Falcao--

I expect though we'll see Rooney in midfield again with Jones and Rojo seeing a lot of the ball

    -----------de gea------------
    --------Carrick--Rojo--------
    Valencia-----blind------shaw
    -------Herrera--di Maria-----
    -------------mata------------
    ------falcao------rooney-----

    -------------De Gea-------
    Rafael--Carrick--Rojo--Shaw

    Spooky

Posted without seeing your post but agree that Carrick should start at the back until we have a defender who can play

    -------------de gea---------
    Rafael--Jones----rojo---shaw
    -------------carrick----------
    --------blind-------di Maria---
    --------------mata-----------
    -------Rooney--van persie---

Need width for this. Leicester will man an 11 person fort in front of the goal. Flooding the middle will see us having a warm time breaking them down
