I thought Matić and VDB deserved it based on their performances during the preseason.

Honestly the more I think about the McFred pairing for this game, the more I feel like I'm in the wrong about my initial reaction. They were good last season and Leeds are too quick for Matić. I am taking my words back

VdB?! I did not think he had a good outing against Everton - added almost nothing. Whereas Fred was our best player when he came on in the second half. Not to mention an excellent CA where he pushed Fabinho out of the lineup.

I agree Matic had a good preseason, but he's just not suitable against Leeds.

Fred wasnt any good when he came on. Average as anything. His usual headless chicken mode

Would be a better player if he ever fecking slowed down and used his head more.

Its crazy when you think how much money we have spent in recent years, then look at that team.
I expect us to win the game but man, it could be a long season again.

Still have a few players to come in. Our strongest XI will contain Varane, Rashford, Cavani, Sancho. When the season is properly rolling our best team will look different. VDB will be a good option this year too I reckon.

I think Ole wants to survive the early stage of the season using players like James, so his better players will be fresh and not burn out early. The team is looking fine, but we definitely need a new DMF and some RB cover.

We won't win the league with McFred as our main midfield pair.
We haven't won a trophy for several years now and that pairing is what has been used during that time.

So what? They are the best we have, currently.

I haven't been following the transfer market closely, but is Lingard still here?
Why the hell are we hanging onto players who have proven beyond doubt, that they are not good enough?

He is, currently out with covid at the moment. He's apparently keen to stay and Ole is happy to have him.

Dream killer for those who thought we will change formation from the start of the season (not that there were many of them).

Fine team, neither of McTominay and Matic were going to play full game so I can understand starting Scott (although I'd have started Nemanja).

Matic-van de Beek to finish the game then. Or Matic if we need to push in the last 30' and throw more attackers in.

It is not really clear to me which players the moaners in here were expecting to start today instead? Cavani? Not ready. Martial? Not ready? Lingard? Coming back from Covid. Rashford? Injured. Sancho? Just started training this week. Matic? Too slow against Leeds press. DVdB? Ole doesn't seem to trust him to start yet. Varane? Not signed in time and therefore not trained with us.

We have varane, sancho, Rashford and cavani yet to come in plus I assume one or both of fred and Mctominay will be dropped so it will look a lot better. Unfortunately the signings just took too long to come in that our team obviously looks like it’s not at that level yet

McTominay is a regular starter for Scotland
So? To play for Scotland is by no means an indication of being great footballer (the competition for places is low), whereas Brazil is one of the best national teams in the world.

Regarding VDB, if you do want him to do better this season then I'm not sure throwing him in against Leeds with a half-formed and half-fit squad around him is the best way to start. It makes sense to me that Solskjaer would go with what he knows to begin the season, much though I dislike that midfield pairing.

We have games against Southampton, Wolves and Newcastle that will be less physically intense. If you want to try VDB in CM, better there.

Totally disagree. Crisp progressive and accurate passing, sharp on the ball and a lovely assist. VdB on the other hand - safe lateral passes and otherwise feck-all.

Rebecca Lowe with a sly dig at city - "leeds is United's second biggest rivalry after liverpool".

Not in the midfield they aren't

Problem is it was a tournament year, Euros, Copa America then the Olympics for some as well. We go for players who are internationals so it was always going to be difficult along with the quarantining rules.
