I think James is a smart pick actually, as is the lack of Pogba. Leeds press intensively and they regularly commit men forward - this will leave space for James to exploit with his pace.

I don’t know but I’d be worried about Matic or Pogba’s slow play being caught out against their intensity. The work rate and energy of Fred and McTominay is maybe a better option.

As for James playing; Leeds are naive at the back and I think we’ll have a lot of room to counter attack today. Greenwood hasn’t been playing particularly well on the right so a good time to rest him and give James a go in a game he should get space.

I mean, Matic+Pogba crumbles against high pressings, as does Matic or Pogba plus any one of Fred, McT or VDB. The case of VDB is more on to lack of defense support.

Fred+McT are fine as long as they have each other as covers against high pressings and man-to-man.

I guess, given that Leeds have a top striker and our defence shits itself anytime they have to do any defending, Fred and McT are in there to protect the back 4 and breakup any attacks before they have a chance to waltz past Maguire.

Fred is great at this, but also a yellow card x2 waiting to happen. Needs more discipline in the tackle.

How does James go from barely any meaningful cameos off the bench in weeks, to a first team start? We all know he's not good enough, but it feels like he's set up to fail, by periodically being shoved in to the first team and then inevitably been hooked off on the hour mark. Baffling management.

Surely it's the opposite - we're being sensible.

Even against trash worst team Sheffield, our defense conceded two goals while our midfield get pass by many times it's embarassing. Thanfully their finishing is so shit, so it doesn't matter. Leeds is more dangerous in attacks, so two good midfielders good at supporting defense are important.

Playing James is fairly insane.

Not playing Pogba is a big call too. I reckon a bad one. Been our best/ one of our better players these past 3-4 games.

Ole makes too many changes trying to be clever.

Like this James call is Purley because Leeds leave space in behind but on our last year or evidence with James his pace is somewhat irrelevant to that as he doesn't know how to exploit that space.

I'm only disappointed with the inclusion of James. Mata, Cavani, Greenwood or an extra man in midfield would be better. Hopefully he surprises me but hes been so poor it's a joke.. how the hell is today the day, to stick him in the lineup.
