James has it all to prove for sure. He needs to be doing what he's good at, using his pace to get in behind and working his bollocks off up and down the flank. If he's barely in the game and/or only having it played into feet we can forget about getting anything out of him whatsoever and as you suggest Mason may as well come on after half an hour.Don't know why many are complaining about Fred and McTominay. I mean Van de Beek and Matic are comfortably worse than they are, and if Pogba is playing, then he should be playing instead of James.

Think Ole is thinking about how good James is off the ball, regards energy and the speed he will give us on the counter.

He came in to rotate with Bruno. He's nowhere near Bruno in terms of ability and therefore shouldn't be playing unless Bruno needs a rest or is injured.
He could possibly get away with playing deep sometimes but in my opinion, today wouldn't be the day.it will be 9 games in december with another game on the 1st of jan. if you dont use your squad at this time of the year, when would you? james should be fresh and hopefully he can show why he is part of the team. pogba will maybe need some rest after being out for some time

Our bench is unbelievably strong. Cavani, Greenwood, Pogba, DVB to come on if needed.McTominay should be able to give them a few headaches from set pieces at least so that's good. Dan James should be motivated and should have some space to work in, another positive. I think Telles has been crap the last couple of games and Shaw is perhaps stronger defensively so that's probably the right call. Let's see what happens eh? I'd have to disagree to be honest, in terms of actually being able to play through a press - they spend far more time recyling the ball around the back six, so while they may not immediately get caught in possession, the back six as a whole has to absorb far more.
Donny, Matic and Pogba are all far more adept at playing through the lines despite taking on more risk individually. I'd personally understand one of McT or Fred just not both.- Status
