Is he being man marked? Didn’t hear that got on the ball much from the radio
They were pressing him a lot early on and he lost the ball more often than not, so he then resorted to getting rid of the ball as quickly as possible in any direction he could. Been more composed since we went ahead and Everton lost a bit of energy because of it.

There is a shape to the play it doesn't always come off but you can see it, losing the ball in this shape can cause issues like we've seen in this 1st half , and it can can cause issues for the opponents like 2 goals up.
Amorin is giving guys a chance they now have to take them, I'd like to se Ugarte on in 2nd half .
So far the 3 games I've watched it's been an improvement just keep it up. Dalot can lose the ball alot he needs to be better in 2nd half

its more clear than it ever was under eth which is wild.

Yep I agree. I guess one way to think about it is Ten Hag is so smart that he chopped, changed and complicated the system beyond normal human (or pro football player) level of understanding.

I say it in jest but I think there's a hint of truth in there for me.

Why does it matter? United scored, that's what matters. I would understand the post if United didn't capitalized. Weird.
Just an observation, but good to know we have someone around judging. It is an ugly job but I am glad, somebody is doing it

The performance after the 1st goal was very good. Still long periods where we were poor but the progress is there (even if it's not happening quite as fast as we'd like).

Zirkzee's best performance by a mile. Don't think he's a 9 though. Might work as one of the 10s. I know he scored again but Rashford was really bad tbh. Amad has secured his spot in the team today imo. Not everything he did came off but he's been a constant threat and found himself in space regularly. His pressing has continued to be good. He can definitely play that rwb role and I'm sure he'll continue to improve with time. 2 assists feom Bruno. Much happier with him higher up the pitch than in the cm like against Bodo/Glimt.

Defence has looked shaky still. Casemiro and Mainoo not working together very well, but Cas has been the better of the 2. I'd like to see Ugarte and Casemiro together since that duo under Ruud is still the best performance I've seen in our midfield this season.

Still work to do but we're seeing that idea Amorim talked about. I think we'll start to see big improvements around January (even without any signings)

Those moments don't happen if we had a real wide CB on the left side of De Ligt.

Good box defending shouldn't be valued over the ability to prevent those situations where they have to defend the box.
A larger portion of that blame lies with the midfield who simply don’t have the legs to cover. You’re overrating pace in defence.

I think Mainoo will do much better next to Ugarte tbh.

And yet the club didn't address that either in the summer, especially when they had the chance to do it.

Can tell mainoo been out of action for a while. Doesn’t look sharp enough

I think he proved quite a few times that he was actually quite stupid. The whole world, heck even pundits like Michael Owen and Carragher could see the problems with his set-up and yet he persisted with it. He was not only dense, but incredibly stubborn. His late/ineffective substitutions. Constantly subbing on Centre backs when we need a goal etc.

When the average fan seems to understand the game more than a manager, especially a Manchester United manager, it's a big problem.

Really good showing so far. Still not the finished product by any stretch of the imagination but encouraging stuff on display so far.

1st goal obviously with a big slice of luck but will take it. Not often you can say for a long time that we have scored from a corner kick but that will do if our luck begins to change with these.

2nd goal, typified why Amad is such a massive player for us going forward into this setup. That desire to press and win the ball to help tee up Zirkzee (who I will come to in just a minute) should be shown to the whole squad on how you press. Take a bow Amad, absolutely sensational wee man.

Now I along with many others have had major concerns with what I’ve seen from Zirkzee but credit where it’s due, he’s playing reasonably well. Showed some nice touches, pressing when he needs too and now in the right place to score a goal that will do his confidence the world of good. Just more of the same please and my opinion will start to change for the better.

Also just a side note, thank goodness we did not spunk up £70M on Branthwaite.

Mixed bag. Going in 2-0 and probably fortunate that's the case.

Hope we kick on in the second half with the cushion of a 2 goal lead.

We’ve gone in 2-0 up at halftime, which is a solid position, but there’s still so much more this team is capable of. While Amorim will be pleased with the scoreline, I’m not sure he’ll feel the same about the performance overall.

Don’t get me wrong, there have been some great moments in the game. However, we’ve also been frustratingly sloppy at times. One of the standout features of our good play has been when we’ve switched the ball and created 1v1 situations for our wingers. Unfortunately, that hasn’t happened nearly enough. Instead, we’ve relied too heavily on short, intricate passing in midfield, which has resulted in careless errors and turnovers. This approach has also made us easier to press, as our passing game has lacked the variety needed to stretch the opposition.

For the second half, we need to focus on hitting our wingers earlier and with more intent. Doing so will stretch this Everton side, create overloads in wide areas, and give us more control in the attacking phase.

That said, it hasn’t been a bad half overall. It’s great to see Rashford and Zirkzee on the scoresheet, but there’s definitely room to elevate our performance.

    Amad's a proper pickpocket, isn't he?

It's really refreshing to see the idea of the manager, execution is not there yet but the idea is clear.

Funny how a set up can be seen in days, after having years of Ole and Ten Hag where I couldn't understand what we were trying to do.

Ok. All I can say is what if Amorim actually had a preseason and what the feck was ETH doing for 3 years and with £800m plus wasted.

Just an observation, but good to know we have someone around judging. It is an ugly job but I am glad, somebody is doing it
I'm not judging, I just find it weird. I don't even respond to 99% of your post and your weird anti Fernandes agenda. You can do whatever you like and want.

Also Branthwaite want to play for us so badly, he gifted us 2 goals.

I get it. I'm not one to rag on players early on. But I had major issue when we signed him. Hes never been prolific and his goal highlights are really fluky. You barely ever see him strike a ball cleanly. He looked slow in an already slow league where players are given much more time than in the PL. His one bright spot has always been his link up and even that has looked really bad at times this season. Hes decent when he gets on the ball but his ability to control the ball is suspect.

I just dont see a lot of flashes that make me think it's going to get a lot better. I could see him being successful in a team like Pool were hes flanked by goalscoring wing forward and he can play the Firminho role, but we dont have that. I just dont see where he fits or how it gets much better unless Amorim works some magic.
Zirkzee didn’t become Serie A young player of the year for no reason. He’s a player with immense potential and while adapting to a new league and system takes time, his talent is undeniable. Patience is key.

I think Mainoo will do much better next to Ugarte tbh.
With or without Ugarte today makes no difference to Mainoo contributions, we need to stop making excuses for our players. Mainoo is still young of course and this is only his first game back since a while.

Don't entirely deserve to be 2-0 up, but whatever. Would like to see Hojlund, Mount and Ugarte on the pitch second half to up the intensity and see the game out.

Interesting to see so many saying we aren't playing too well. I think, we look decently organized, players at least seem like they don't just meet once a month as we did for such a long time. Also think the intensity is good. Some of the passing is rough, no doubt about it, and it can be a bit dodgy defensively but thats to be expected in a new system. We haven't created anything of note, both goals come from moments of furtune, not complaining but thats something, that has to get better. Pretty sure it'll happen though. Bruno making good use of the ball today, Mainoo and JZ also look good overall. Nice to see the manager experimenting and trying players for his formation.

Still can’t believe Antony started over Amad. I will be saying this every match day from here on in.

Ok. All I can say is what if Amorim actually had a preseason and what the feck was ETH doing for 3 years and with £800m plus wasted.
Is the club, squad, structure and foundations of the club the same for amorim as when ten hag stepped in? No on all fronts? So why even compare?

It used to be poor performances plus giving away silly goals, I wouldn’t say we’ve been good but at least we’ve taken chances and there haven’t been brain farts. Really need to click a bit better though, I fear a drubbing if we play like this on Weds.

With or without Ugarte today makes no difference to Mainoo contributions, we need to stop making excuses for our players. Mainoo is still young of course and this is only his first game back since a while.
Not making excuses, I just feel like a midfield duo of him and Casemiro doesn't work. Mainoo not that mobile and Casemiro is physically done.

Amads the real deal. How didn’t ETH see what a player he was. Love that Amorim will play players who are in form.

Zirkzee still looks out of place, too slow and lethargic. Rashford I'm still not convinced by, I think he's the worst option we have in the front three behind Zirkzee. Dalot is having a poor start to the season. Casemiro looking lost in that midfield. The team still has those bozo genes where they will randomly try a flick, have a poor touch, do a silly tackle and give up the ball.

On a positive De Ligt is looking really good, Mazraoui as well is a star. I think Martinez is doing good and showing why that LCB role needs a left footer. However, we need to upgrade him. He fights admirablely but we need a much stronger CB in that position.

Once the right players click with the tactics you can see how we can potentially become a dangerous team. I'm liking what I'm seeing from the ta tics. A lot of potential.

Reckon we will end up settling with Bruno, Garnacho and Rasmus as the main front 3. Ugarte and Kobbie midfield.

Those moments don't happen if we had a real wide CB on the left side of De Ligt.

Good box defending shouldn't be valued over the ability to prevent those situations where they have to defend the box.

I'm happy we have Shaw, I'm worried this system may start exposing Martinez's flaws a bit more than we'd like.

One constatnt feature that I noticed with this structure is that it requires us to have athletic players, hopefully, over the course of the next few months, we start seeing this slight turnover.

we were absolutely dominated by Everton in min 5-min 30 approx. Spacing and positioning was horrible. Casemiro, mainoo and Bruno dispossessed easily.

Somehow after a deflection we played much better. Only good thing is we’re winning 2-0.
Hope for better control of the match in 2nd half. We can’t seem to keep hold the ball. Maybe ugarte needs to replace Casemiro as the Uruguayan is more mobile. Rashford, bar his deflected goal, has been shocking as well.

    Dominated

They had a few good transitions, it's the Premier League, it happens
