We’ve gone in 2-0 up at halftime, which is a solid position, but there’s still so much more this team is capable of. While Amorim will be pleased with the scoreline, I’m not sure he’ll feel the same about the performance overall.
Don’t get me wrong, there have been some great moments in the game. However, we’ve also been frustratingly sloppy at times. One of the standout features of our good play has been when we’ve switched the ball and created 1v1 situations for our wingers. Unfortunately, that hasn’t happened nearly enough. Instead, we’ve relied too heavily on short, intricate passing in midfield, which has resulted in careless errors and turnovers. This approach has also made us easier to press, as our passing game has lacked the variety needed to stretch the opposition.
For the second half, we need to focus on hitting our wingers earlier and with more intent. Doing so will stretch this Everton side, create overloads in wide areas, and give us more control in the attacking phase.
That said, it hasn’t been a bad half overall. It’s great to see Rashford and Zirkzee on the scoresheet, but there’s definitely room to elevate our performance.
