Personal preference would be a 4-3-1-2

    De Gea
    Dalot Lindelof Maguire Telles
    McTominay Matic Fred
    Fernandes
    Sancho Ronaldo
Shaw if fit and VDB to start over McTominay but I won't kid myself. None of the extra attacking players (Rashford, Greenwood, Martial) have shown enough lately to warrant getting picked when we could have an extra man in midfield.
    Is Varane still injured?

Oh man! Just realised this game isn’t on TV. Assumed it was, seeing as it’s a Sunday afternoon kick off.

Ugh, it’s times like this I wish Amazon had the rights for the whole season.

Yes should be happy with the 3 points. A dreadful recent record at home to Palace, Ralf isn't going to change much with one training session and this Palace side have already won in Manchester this season against Peps City.
Most important thing is to start winning more regularly, West Ham beat Chelsea today, Spurs and Arsenal too should win this weekend so we have to gain as many points as possible.

Think under normal circumstances he’d rest Ronaldo, but I don’t think he’ll do it in his first game in charge, would cause too much of a fuss/circus show.
I do think DvB will start, Sancho for sure. Henderson or DDG is a very interesting one for me.

Personal preferences of players does not lessen or increase the amount of support someone has for a team. Knock off the theatrics.

You are missing my point, I said those who think that VDB has been given more chances than McTominay or Fred are not true Man Utd Supporters, I did not say, those who think that McTominay & Fred are better footballers than VDB are not true Man Utd supporters.

I thought Rangnick would be a big fan of Lingard. Interesting omission, I guess he's probably told the club he wants to leave.

Martial's United career is done also.

    It's still a rubbish opinion

Really looking forward to this. Interesting to see how we line up under Rangnick.

    Starting XI

    De Gea

    Dalot - Lindelof - Maguire - Telles

    Matic - Fred

    Van De Beek - Fernandes

    Sancho - Ronaldo

subs: Henderson, Wan-Bissaka, Bailly, McTominay, Diallo, Mata, Elanga, Greenwood, Rashford

Score Prediction: Manchester United 3-1 Crystal Palace

Hopefully he has told Martial and Lingard they can go in January. Lord knows someone has to.

Shaw is taking an awful long time recovering from a concussion. Almost worryingly long.

    Henderson
    Dalot - Varane - Bailly - Telles
    Mejbri - Beek
    Sancho - Bruno - Lingard
    Cavani

    - Proactive goalkeeper suited for the new brand of football
    - Underperforming defenders dropped
    - Academy prodigy plus press maestro in midfield
    - High work rate attackers

Let’s get the heavy metal era started with a bang!

Mejbri isn't in the squad. He's away at the Arab Cup.

Yup, I thought Lingard would be there too.

Not sure why everyone is tagging Mata along. It hardly makes any sense at this point.

Are Cavani and Varane allowed to play with crutches or a Zimmer frame, seeing as how they're both out injured?

Carrick said Cavani was back training on the grass and I thought Shaw has concussion? It's been ages
I love Cavani for his passion and work rate. But the dude is hardly ever available.

I don't know what the nature of his injuries is. Running that hard gives him those injures? If so, at this age he should probably ease it up. No much point running too much in one game and miss next 10 games. Put things in perspective with 'working hard' with some players.

But then again I might be spouting shit as I don't know what kind of troubles he has with his injures.

I am going for this too. More control = more midfielders to stabilise our team.

He suffered two concussions within a week or two of each other. He needs to be protected.

If Rangnick is willing to drop Lingard for not signing a contract, I'd imagine that Pogba has also played his last ever game for United.

    Rangnick isn't Guardiola.

RR favours high pressing, and he likes his teams to score within 10 seconds of winning back possession. In other words, his teams don't control the midfield and they don't prioritise controlling the ball for long stretches of time like City.

Instead, the focus is to force the opposition into making errors, and then capitalising on those errors at lightning speed.

In 2018/19 (RR's last season in charge of Leipzig) his team only had an average of 49.5% possession in the league. And their passing accuracy was only 75.3% which was the third lowest in the whole of the Bundesliga including relegated teams.

So don't expect RR's United side to be about control. It's going to be more like Ole's first couple of seasons, except with counter-attacks being triggered higher up the pitch.

I think people are going to be surprised by how many games McFred play between now and the end of the season. They're going to be important to United keeping territorial dominance in the middle of the pitch.

If what you said happen to us, I wonder what that 'control' crowd will say about it.

With the players we have this season, I would like us to score early and kill the opponent off early instead of passing pointlessly around in the middle of the pitch at 80s mins while being 0 - 0 with 70% possession.

They will play a lot due to the fact that they are only two out of three players who can play in those positions. People complained a lot about them but we have no other players. Let's see how VDB will do under this guy though.

I actually don't think there will be too much of a change in terms of the starting line-up. Not at this stage with such a short time with the club. I'm expecting pretty much the same sort of team that Ole/Carrick would have put out.

The performances of the starters and the subs will have a bigger impact on his line-ups for the future though.

We will probably see similar 11 players with the one against Arsenal, while Rashford and McTominay replaced by Greenwood and Matic. McTominay has been playing non-stop since the Watford game so I think he will be rested today while Rashford didn't look sharp enough vs Arsenal so I expect Greenwood will start.

Can’t you control games out of possession? Rangnick said himself, take the coincidence out of the game and play further away from our goal. Like when we currently have possession...a healthy portion of it is completely sterile passing between our back 4 and a very deep Fred or McT. However possession stats will show we were “in control” of the ball...when the truth is we were bouncing it around the edge of our box and trying to get out of our half.

I can see Rangnick controlling games in this way. Possession stats might be even but the game will hopefully be played predominantly in their half.
