and yet… Newcastle ran circles around us.

Why is that? If we're running hard in training, maybe we're doing something wrong. Newcastle had 3 tough games with the same team, played 90 mins without subs just days earlier vs PSG. Yet they still outrun us. And if they're not following orders, why are the majority starting every game?

With the faintest hopes of reverse psychology why is Scott starting still? I don't get it. Unless it's resting Mainoo to preven injury just why? He adds so little.

I would've liked to have seen Mainoo partner Amrabat as McTominay is too indisciplined to hold his midfield position resulting in acres of space for opp to run into.

Time for Hojland to break his PL duck!

    McTominay starting again is tragic.

He’s been terrible and was an embarrassment in the last game, probably means he’ll score tonight and get another long run of games.

Him and Rashford both should have been dropped tonight, suppose the lack of alternatives has worked in Mctominay’s favour.

Our is our midfield so poor?! After all the money we’ve spent. We’ve got the worse midfield out of the top 5. An abandoned position for years
Crazy, because ETH has bought a bunch of midfielders as well. 3 of them are injured, though.

Mainoo in for McTominay and AWB in for Dalot and I'd have some optimism for the game. I don't know what ten Hag has against fielding an actual midfield.

Aye, Mainoo and Amrabat was the midfield I wanted to see, I can understand the manager wanting to manage Kobbie’s minutes though. Let’s hope McTominay can actually hit double figures for passes completed but I suspect he’ll go hiding as per usual.

Mctominay starts again. It’s more or less a certain loss now :(

Still no repercussions to McTominay's godawful performance. When he gets into this team it's always almost impossible to drop him.
Mr invisible i dont touch the ball… no wonder we have never control in midfield. I dont get it.
But good to drop Rashford, finally

Such a weak line up, I can’t believe it. Don’t think we win this game.

hopefully this team has a performance locked up somewhere- we desperately need some wins.

scotts late winners seem to have got him a permanent place in the midfield- and don’t know where Mount is!!

Not having a go at you but missing our starting central midfield and central defence partnership from last season all this season does explain some of our issues.

Mainoo next to Amrabat would've been alright

A lot of people are saying this, but ten Hag clearly doesn't see or want Mainoo as an 8 type of player to play in the half spaces, but rather prefers him as a first phase player, and actually, I do, too.

I think, the fact that ten Hag bought Mount tells you everything about the type of profile he wanted in midfield, i.e. running off the ball, goals, etc. McTominay, whether people like him or not, is the closest profile to Mount, and I believe that's exactly why he's in there.

What changes would you have made?

10/11. Didn't think ETH will actually drop Rashford. Good on him. Once our other midfielders are fit, I hope to god we never see McT also in there.

You lot being so pessimistic is making me nervous that we’re losing this 3-0.

Just about to ask this question. Wasn't aware he was injured?

No I don't think he is. He's just out in the cold I think? Maybe someone knows different?

I see your point, I think he persists with Maguire for his goal threat

You're right, but that's the worrying part. That he still thinks this setup will work with the options we have. It was more about us hoping ten Hag would change the setup rather than using Mainoo as an attack minded 8.

Gonna get battered I reckon god help the fans in the freezing cold, unmanned already and haven’t even seen ball kicked

I'm sorry, but McTominay - Amrabat - Bruno is not a midfield that deserves to be in top 5. I get we have injuries, I'm just lamenting the fact it has come to this. And adding an old Casemiro and Mason Mount would have done very little to change that. The mere fact that McTominay is not only still at the club but a regular starter even is just shambolic.

I'm very glad to see Rashford dropped. Fully deserved. I still think we can win this, because Chelsea aren't exactly pulling up trees themselves.

What a horrible midfield. After all these years this is still the level of midfield we are putting out.

8 league goals in 88 United league appearances for that United front three. To put that into perspective, Chelsea’s Jackson has 6 in 13 and is seen as the raw, weak link in the team. feck me.

That midfield is a problem. Chelsea are already better at moving the ball and with McT-Amrabat pairing any chance of having a passing rhythm when we do have the ball is gone. Mainoo probably being managed. If we drop Bruno to CM, we'll have zero attack. Our poor squad planning and injuries are biting us in the ass again. And I'm never confident with Dalot in the team against half decent attackers. At least Rashford is benched, it would've sent the wrong message if he started.

So yeah, not really confident in the team. I believe we have enough in attack do some damage, just a question of whether the midfield and defense will hold up. I expect Chelsea to have a lot of the ball and it being a frustrating game for the most part.
