Discussion Your Lineup Prediction

  • We do not have the right players for a 3-4-3, that much is obvious. We're trying to force square pegs into a round hole.

You could have ended the sentence as follows: We do not have the right players.

Had 4231 worked with these players under ETH he would still be manager. There’s no reason to believe that with the players we still have that the same setup would have worked under another manager.

Amorim is starting to squeeze good performances out of these players and it would be madness to abandon what is starting to work for him.

What we need, which nothing to do with 343 as such is the following:

    Better finishing
    Better defending on set pieces
    A capable left wingback.

If we somehow tick all those boxes and we’re still swirling in the bottom half of the table we can have a conversation about sacking Amorim and binning his 343, but not now.

We really need a good start, the team (and crowd) really lack confidence and if we start under pressure and in the back foot the team drop deeper and deeper and it’s noticeable in the crowd as well, the chanting slows down and is more anxious groans. On Thursday as soon as we started to attack more and more the crowd reacted well and started to really lift the team again, the atmosphere after we scored was fantastic.

    Martinez

    Amad
    Ugarte
    Mainoo
    Dalot

    Bruno
    Garnacho
    Hojilund

Would prefer ZIrzkee to impact the game off the bench. Collyer to come on for the most knackered centre mid after an hour.

Brighton not as good as previous seasons but we’re worse. I make them favourites but we might sneak a 1-1 draw. Really sad times.

Another game not on TV... And they wonder why so many people choose to find the rivers

This is gonna be very tough, they all are, the problem is, our players don't tend to be consistent, there are issues within this team, they don't consistently work well as a unit, and they don't consistently give you hard work or quality, and at times they don't give you both, in the games vs Liverpool, and City, there was the hardwork and the quality, vs Arsenal there was the hardwork, not much quality, and vs Southampton, the quality of certain players rescued us, and then you have the one vs Newcastle where there was no hardwork nor quality, and vs Bournemouth and Forest, lack of quality shone through.

Today we will need these players to summon their Liverpool performances, as a minimum, or we lose this easily, Brighton are a lot more direct in their pressing and attacks with their new young manager, and they will go at us at full pelt hoping we crumble and if we don't match them we are toast.

The starting 11 picks itself, even though Hojlund has been bad, Amorim still needs a quick runner in the sole striker spot to press and run the channels, and with Dalot returning he will go for his settled back 5.

I'd be stunned if we win this.

Brighton are so much better than Southampton at pressing and passing. They are probably just as not great defensively, so I guess you never know. But we are going to get outplayed again I think.

Really need the team to show up and put the effort in today. We need a performance like at Anfield. Sick of these tinpot clubs rocking up at Old Trafford and playing them off the park.

If we play like in the last game, we deserve to and will lose - simple as that. Up your game, orherwise you deserve nothing.

They are much better at collective pressing than Southampton were, just been very hot and cold with their composure and finishing. Also Lewis Dunk has had some terrible games, but he can be a bully against out of form strikers such as Hojlund atm. It's gonna be very tough game.

Brighton are shit. United are shit and tired. The performance against a horrible Southampton was frankly pathetic. Start like this again and Brighton won't be as forgiving.

I think he's gonna go with this today. Well it's my prediction anyway. God knows what he'll actually do. Maz is better playing RCB than wing back. We're more secure defensively. Collyer and Zirkzee deserve their starts.

Think we've scored the least number of goals in the first 30 mins of any team this season.

If we perform the way we did against Liverpool and show that same fight/desire/hunger (whatever phrases you want to use) then we will win this game. If it’s not and we revert back to our usual pathetic self's that we’ve seen far too often (most recently for 80 minutes against basement club Southampton), then I don’t expect to see anything other than a Brighton win.

I try to be positive here when there hasn’t been much of that this season and say we will put in a good performance and get the win.

Anyone else think that playing over an hour with 10 men away to Arsenal maybe ,just maybe, took it's toll?
Clearly. Lack of energy was a big part of the problem against Southampton. Not sure it will have improved by now, but at least Brighton also played on Thursday.

I still think of Brighton as a championship club pushing their luck. They've more than proved they aren't but being schooled by them every game for the last 2/3 years annoys me more than any other club. They do with ease what we should be doing

Obviously did. Especially in midfield. We know Mainoo can't maintain a high level when playing too many games in a row, and we know his stamina is a bit shit anyway. Amorim has also commented on Ugarte needing a bit of time to recover between games too, as he puts in a ridiculous amount of work in games.

It's clear that when our midfield duo isn't sharp, a lot falls apart. Happened against Ipswich even if it was game 1 due to playing the old duo, same thing vs Newcastle. I do think that when we're tired like that, Amorim should adjust and play with more control (which includes Zirkzee up top).

It looks like Welbeck is starting this one. While he’s not known for being prolific (though he certainly seems to be against us), Brighton appear to be a much stronger side with him in the team. In fact, I think their dip in form coincided with his injury, which shows just how important he is to their setup.

I would say our back 3 were noticably off the pace and their men which made it harder for our midfield. Also Saints were much better than they have been, their press especially.

Stick to the formation and just get points on the board.
Good football can take a backseat at the moment.

    I hope no Yoro!
He was so bad against Southampton
Lets see if he can learn from it and put in a better performance today. Almost everyone was bad though, especially in the 1st half, and we can't make wholesale changes.

I agree but their left-wing ran rings around Yoro unfortunately

Mainoo and Martinez may be due a rest.

There is very few options available to Amorim when it comes to selection.

Plus the alternatives have already shown him they are not up to the task, so its a choice between them or starting with the same eleven even if they are fatigued.

Gonna be a tough game so expect the worse, don't freak out if United drop points.
