Discussion Your Lineup Prediction

  • Last convincing performance we had was against Everton at the beginning of December.
Can't agree with you. We were poor enough that day but got the breaks.
    Amorim said as much afterwards.
We definitely played better against Liverpool & Arsenal.

Mainoo and Ugarte both need a rest.

Problem is, Casemiro and Eriksen are both terrible.

I’m pessimistic about this game. It’s the type of game we’ve lost quite frequently this season, plus Brighton being our new bogey team, plus some of our players seem to be knackered due to the recent intense games. I would take a draw if offered now, which is a sad state of affair since we’re playing at OT.

    Onana
De Ligt - Maguire - Martinez
    Mazraoui - Collyer - Ugarte - Dalot
    Amad - Zirkzee - Bruno

I like this one - Collyer brings some legs. I do think we should start Hojlund as the counter-attack will likely be our best chance of scoring and with Garna on bench, we need some pace.

I was talking about the most convincing win though. We might have played better but means nothing when you don’t win the game. Pretty sure we’d all prefer to of had games where we’ve not been at our best but won them. We need points. We’re 12th man.

Another must win. Dont care how but its a home game and we need to win it. Simple as that.

Also, Collyer and Zirkzee deserve to start the game after their performances yesterday.

    Onana
Yoro - Maguire - De Ligt
    Maz - Ugarte - Collyer - Dalot
    Amad - Zirkzee - Bruno

They’re our bogey team and those first eighty minutes of tonight’s game were genuinely horrific. A team of amateurs would have done better.

    They’ll win 3-0.
They haven't won much recently either, so wouldn't be rocking up with a lot of confidence. Plus they've dropped a lot of points this season after leading in their games.

Pre-Amorim, I'd have said that conceding first would end the game for us. But I wouldn't be surprised if it's a hard fought 2-1 win after Brighton score first.

But the overreaction to yesterday's game is crazy. No, a team of amateurs wouldn't have done better against a PL team playing with pretty much nothing to lose at this point.

One of the big issues we have with fitness is every game we play goes right down to the wire. Yesterday we could have done with getting a 2-0 lead and then conserving some energy. But nope. 88th minute winner.

It must be so mentally and physically draining for the players. It's hard work as a supporter.

This is such hyperbole that’s it pointless engaging with viewpoints like this. Southampton have a new manager, nothing to lose and some excellent young players. They’re still a PL team, regardless of how few points they have and how bad they have been and as we know, anyone can lose to anyone in this league.

It goes without saying last night we were dog shit for 70 minutes. So this games a concern.
Id restore maguire in the back 3 and dalot comes back in. Zirkzee to start too. Let’s hope we can put a good performance in because Brighton are a very good side. Any lacklustre performances and we get beat.

    Just not confident at OT.

Will be the usual performance we've seen against the likes of forest, newcastle, bournemouth and soton. All depends on whether Brighton have their shooting boots on.

    1-3 Brighton.

    I'd probably go:

    Onana
De Ligt - Maguire - Martinez
    Dalot - Ugarte - Collyer - Mazraoui
    Amad - Bruno
    Zirkzee
I'd be interested in seeing Collyer start a game. He's looked sharp and fresh. Zirkzee deserves it based on his cameo, and to try something different. And if we do play with Dalot and Mazraoui on the wingbacks, I hope we get Dalot on the right. I feel like LWB is a lot cause no matter what, but Dalot brings a little bit more offensively on the right than Mazraoui.

The four in the middle of that look so deeply uninspiring that I feel like I need to zap myself.

I'd keep Mainoo in the team unless he is knackered or something (which he does look a bit, sometimes). Maz is really not suited to wing back, would try to find a way to drop him... maybe give Malacia a run out, though not exactly expecting much. Maybe Garnacho at LWB...?

I agree that Amad, Bruno and the Zirk should probably be the three up top.

On the scoreboard yeah it was convincing.
But Performance wise it was not.

Brighton are hardly flying, they’ve won 1 league game since November and that was against Ipswich last night.
Saying that they always give us a tough game, I’d be more than happy with a draw at the minute.

    Onana
De Ligt - Maguire - Martinez
    Mazraoui - Collyer - Ugarte - Dalot
    Amad - Zirkzee - Bruno
Any hope Shaw would be back? Martinez looks a bit shot - remember him playing centre forward in extra time v Arsenal?

True. Brighton’s poor form does give me hope. And I was slightly overreacting after last night’s performance..

We went through long spells of playing badly under Fergie and still knicking wins all the time. I think people do forget that as time passes. What's much more worrying is the players don't seem comfortable attacking at home and don't really seem nearly as up for the fight in these easier games. With the way the game has changed and opposition teams press high and then can sit back with strong players, at home we should be going straight at them and get a goal and make them come at us and pick them off as the game opens up. I'm still exhausted after watching the game last night. The lads who stayed on for the whole thing must be shattered. I'd take a draw after that. Zirkzee to start. Amad and Bruno behind him. Teacnious midfield to win the battle and hopefully that will see us through. I'd take another dogged win but I don't think it's sustainable with this group to keep grinding. Important players will start picking up injuries and we will be back to the drawing board before long.

Look, we may well lose at the weekend as we continue to blow hot and cold but posters predicting a comfortable Brighton win are probably the same ones who foresaw thrashings at Anfield and The Emirates.

    Onana
    Yoro - Maguire - Martinez
    Antony - Ugarte - Collyer - Mazraoui
    Amad - Bruno
    Zirkzee

Collyer, Zirkzee and Antony deserve to start for me, again though that left hand side looks worrying.

Martinez underperformed heavily and Maz not being suited to that side but I don't want Dalot anywhere near this team and playing 2 defensive wingbacks would give Brighton full reign to pin us back

We should abandon the 3-4-3 but he won't, so I guess I'd play this:

    ................................Zirkzee.................................
    ..............................................................................
    ...............Bruno.......................Amad....................
    ..............................................................................
    Dalot...........Ugarte.........Collyer....................Maz
    ...............................................................................
    ............Martinez........................De Ligt.................
    ................................Maguire..................................
    ................................................................................
    .................................Onana....................................

A win in this one would be a huge step in the right direction and would bolster any chance of finishing near the top half. They're on a good unbeaten run, though. I don't have much confidence.

Worried Amorim is going to change too much. I hope he goes with near strongest eleven.

Onana; de Ligt, Maguire, Martinez; Amad, Collyer, Mainoo, Dalot; Garnacho, Fernandes; Zirkzee.

Amorim mentioned Ugarte looking tired. I know Mainoo had a rough game against Southampton but I don't believe in benching because of one off performance. Zirkzee seems to find a bit of form whilst Højlund isn't really getting it done. That's not only his fault but it does go in Zirkzee favour that he works better in the buildup.

(Could be Casemiro instead of Collyer but I hope it's not.)

If we play against Brighton the way we played against Southampton, we're in big trouble.
Totally agree…..if we offer so many chances and possession to Brighton we could be embarrassed.

We have to be much more aggressive and play further up the pitch like we did after Zirkzee came on, if we sit back it could be a very painful watch.

Fatigue is the main problem now.
The 10 man game against Arsenal to ET was suicide for us. Amorim has zero squad to choose from. Squad composition is diabolical.
