We have to stick with Mata at number 10, it’s a home game against Brighton. He is past his best but even a few fleeting moments of craft and intelligence is more then what workhorses Lingard and Andreas bring to the table.

If we insist on playing with a #10 then I agree that it should be Mata. Only problem is I don't see Ole starting him twice in a few days...

Mata should never be starting PL games. I think we've learnt that by now ( a couple of years too late).

This could be an exciting game. Brighton won't come to park the bus. They'll believe they can get a result.

Think home advantage will swing it, however.

BHA expected to be a bit cautious following comprehensive defeats away at City 4-0 and Chelsea 2-0. BHA against Everton 3-2 both teams looked more dangerous on the counter when the other side was attacking. It should be a good test for Ole's tactical nous? Par is 2-0. I hope there are no sending offs which would spoil the game.

Brighton in an identical position as they were after 11 games two seasons ago and United back to being stingy at the back like two seasons ago.

Thanks. I came to ask what kind of team they were, as i haven't watched them play.

If they don't park the bus it's going to be an easy win for us. Its those "compact teams with a low bloc" as Mourinho says that give us trouble.

Do they know how to park a bus? If they do we could be in trouble.

Brighton are past masters at parking the bus if they deign to do so. Six at the back and not drawn out.

The disadvantage of the deep defence is the sheer weight of attacks against it, mean the rub of the green, mistakes, referee decisions and individual brilliance and skilful goals (architects and class finishers) to favour the attacking side statistically.

The snag for Brighton is that with Izquierdo injured they haven't got a real speed merchant for the counter. Another snag is with Webster and Bernardo injured they are a bit slow in defence so they run a serious risk from Rashford and James if they push too far forward.

Pumping high balls into the box against Dunk and Duffy doesn't seem the best idea.

I expect the Albion to play possession football in their own half to try and get United chasing shadows.

It might turn into a tactical confrontation. And it might change during the game.

Rashford is on fire. Going with a calm 5-1 home victory, and some complaints about defensive issues in the postgame thread

Yes, I expect it to be a tactical challenge for Ole. From what I've seen, I don't expect them to adopt a Hughton style defence. I think Potter has coached them to play their own football but also prepared them to adapt to the different challenge of each match.

Our defence will need to be alive to the threat from Trossard who has been a game changer in the last two games. Injury to Webster may mean them adopting a flat back four which better suits Duffy. In which case, Montoya's weakness as an orthodox right back as opposed to a wing back is, imo, exploitable.

Like you, I hope the game is not marred by a sending off. It's a game I'm looking forward to

Thanks for the detailed info mate.

A continuation of the fast, incisive attacking football we saw on Thursday night would be nice.

I'd rather lose 4-3 going all-out attacking than sitting through another dull encounter and scraping win.

This feels like a draw written all over it, Brighton have played good football this season and they will be tough to break down, even more so than Bournemouth but I dont want to hear any more excuses for Ole yet again if we lose this match at home.

We are 14th in the league, facing a team in 8th with a more attractive style. It’s an absolute fecking shambles that this is being accepted.

Yes will start off this game in a depressing 14th place. A win will rise United up to 7th (where I reckon United will finish the season) a draw will leave United in 12th level on points with Spurs..

    The heady heights of 7th.

Solskjaer is completely out of his depth.

Forget about specific formations. Who are our best 11 available players for tomorrow and set the formation from there. So with the players available (assuming Maguire and McTominay's knocks aren't that bad) these are our best 11 players

    ------------------------DDG----------------
    AWB--------Lindeloff-----Maguire------Williams
    Greenwood--McTominay--Fred-------James
    ----------Rashford----------Martial-------------

But I know that Ole will insist on his 4-2-3-1 and probably set up something like this:

    ------------------------DDG----------------
    AWB--------Lindeloff-----Maguire------Williams
    -------------McTominay--Fred---------------
    James---------------Lingard---------Rashford
    ----------------------Martial--------------------

But if Ole insists on playing a 4-2-3-1 then why not play Rashford, James or Greenwood in the #10? Anything is better than Lingard or Periera...

Back to reality with a bump, here. Exactly the team we'll struggle against. Rigid banks of four and a slight goal threat.

    -------------------------DDG---------------------------------
    AWB------------Maguire---------Rojo----------------Williams
    ----------------McTominay------Fred-------------------------
    James------------------Pereira-----------------------Rashford
    ------------------------Martial---------------------------------

SUBS - Garner (McTominay - INJURED), Jones (Maguire - INJURED), Greenwood (Pereira).

    Man United 1 - 1 Brighton
    Rashford (penalty)
Yes that's the side I think may start. Brighton are doing well under G .Potter, he did well last season with Swansea. He does like to attack, unlike the previous Brighton manager, so this is a tough game, just hope we play something like we did on Thusday.

Goodness knows. It happens with a few of the youngster then they aren't with the squad. At least Greenwood, Garner and Williams are still there and it looks like Scott is fit.

Play without a number 10 so Pereira, Lingard or Mata don't need to play.

When Tuanzebe and Pogba are back it should be.

    De Gea
    AWB Tuanzebe Maguire Young
    Pogba McTominay Fred
    James Martial Rashford
Quite simply the best 11 we have until we buy a new left back and a creative midfielder or number 10 if Pogba leaves in the future.

With Arsenal state finishing 5th should be possible if we start putting a winning run starting from tomorrow. Of course that's a big "if" though.

Feels like a draw, the silver lining is Brighton can attack under Potter, if it was Hughton in the stands Solskjaer might as well have got the p45 before the game.
