They had 7 shots to our 5, 4 off target, 3 were blocked. 2 of ours were off target and 3 on target

They had 60.1% of first half possession. They had 367 touches to our 266.

They had 83% pass success to our 73%

They had 3 corners to our 2.

Yes we had 7 dribbles to their 3 and won 7 aerials to their 4.

This is from whoscored.com if you want the source.

Anyway bottom line we didn't own the first half! It was fairly even in opportunities, but they were far more in control.

Second half they had 11 shots on target to our 5, 2 shots off target to our 1 and had 1 shocked blocked to our 2.

    They had 62% possession.

Pass success was 85% to 75%

Dribbles was 5 to 7 in our favour and aerials 6 to 7. We only had 5 tackles to their 9. They had 4 corners to our 2.

I think the above shows they are a better team as a whole and we are simply relying on having a little more quality in one or two pockets. We undoubtedly have weaknesses that need to be addressed because our stars won't make up for our overall weakness.
What's missing here is the quality of chances created. In the first half, we clearly had the better chances to score and we should have been up by more than one. Second half fair enough they played better and should have atleast equalized.

    I just realize this. Damn!
We haven't score 7 and 7+ goals either, so maybe we'll spank Brighton with more than 6. joke

    5 vs 1 Cardiff
    3 vs 1 Huddersfield
    4 vs 1 Bournemouth
    2 vs 0 Newcastle
*2 vs 0 Reading (FA CUP)*
    1 vs 0 Spurs

Concede 1 goal on 3 consecutive games, then clean sheet on the next 3. So I expect us maintain another clean sheet (because FA Cup doesn't count) or concede 2 or more goals?! :nervous:against freaking Brighton?!

6(+) win vs 2(+) Brighton?! I'll take this goal festa.

Funny how he games we concede are the games that we score more in, yet our clean sheets are low scoring games. Let's hope they bag one eh

Our game plan was to let them come on to us and hit the space behind their fullbacks. They played right into out hands which is why they ended up with 0 shots on goal and Utd having 99 percent of the dangerous situations in our favour.
Not everything can be explained with stats.
We controlled that half because we made them play right into our hands while nullifying their threat at the same time.
Its also strange how you hid the 0 shots on target stat in a mass of numbers to bury it. They couldn't get close to our goal.

Lingard gets a lot of criticism but he really helps the fluidity of the front 3 with his movement. He works very hard and turns up in unexpected positions where he finds space and pulls defenders around.

    Exactly

Assume Young will be part of the squad, I don't see why Fred won't be there either, but if Pereira is getting in the 18 ahead of him, he has some work to do.

We had really good chances second half too, Pogba marauding through could easily have been a goal, so too his header and he should have done better with the shot from the edge of the box. We could realistically have scored 3,4 goals

This is something that grates me so much when people don't understand it.

I think it's unfair to say we were not in control of a game when we go there with a game plan and execute it almost perfectly. Surely that is a valid reasoning of being in control? We went there, did as planned, and managed to win. We controlled what we needed to.

Fred's partner has just given birth. I wouldn't take his absence as a sign of his current profile at the club.

So has Pogba and Matic's though, haven't they?

    What's going on with Fred?

A pure guess from my side, maybe he has trouble with the language and adapting to the environment? In any case, it's the feeling I get when I see him, that he doesn't really feel comfortable and almost frightened at times. It's certainly no wonder after some time with Mourinho. I hope Ole can make him start enjoying and understand what he needs to do to play.

If they are sitting deep and have decent aerial CBs then agility and movement will unlock them more readily than hoping Lukaku can get his head on a cross. The same kind of play that saw Martial score against Cardiff is what we need.

Once you've nabbed a goal you immediately get more space as they have to try and score.

Playing on Saturday the 5th, Sunday the 13th and now Saturday the 19th should not be an issue for a 21 year old.

I agree with everything you said, I was more trying to put across that this could be a game that would be good to boost Lukakus confidence as he might have a chance at getting his head on something or a bobbling ball in the box.

Also, I know it’s no issue for rashford playing those games but it gives ole the Chance to say to him we’ve had a few close games over Xmas. Have a rest and I’ll bring you in second half.

Maybe I’m dreaming but I’m thinking it’s a good time to involve Lukaku before his confidence really bombs.

It sort of is. If you live in Ireland then they are showing it. Us over here in Scotland, England and Wales just get shafted as per even though we pay the same amount for sky as they do.
It’s unbelievable that we can’t watch the game in Uniteds home country. I can’t make it to every game so rely on the telly sometimes so pay through the nose for sky sports. And United are often on BT and I don’t have that. It’s infuriating.

There should be a channel that pics up all the prem games that aren't picked for Sky or BT. Press red and pic your game type thing.

Rashford looked absolutely shot at the end of the Tottenham game. Have a feeling he might be rested today and Sanchez given a start.

all that mattered was the score line, OK so they had more of the game, to be honest dont give a rats arse, we went to Wembley for the win and got it.
Oh don't get me wrong, the win is massive.

And yes it doesn't really matter how we performed, as we are still developing and getting fitter and more used to the attacking way. We are going from one of the lazy teams in distance covered to hard workers.

I'm just simply setting out the context that shows we still have a long road ahead and whilst we've handled a bump without running off the road, we were certainly on two wheels at a few points!

I think its poor from the board to not get the top quality CB we so desperately need and that would give our top 4 chances a huge boost.

Chelsea are doing bits and we are doing nothing!

I wonder if Ole will start Alexis today? He said he's raring to go and another agile forward will be handy as Brighton are just going to sit back anyway.

Is there not a possibility we may be looking to bring one in? We've been linked to Militao & Koulibaily consistently. No smoke without fire and all that. I hope so anyway.

I don't think Ole trusts his fitness yet. Seemed irritated Sanchez didn't ask him to come off.

I don't expect many, if any changes for this game.

Ole has already made it clear how important it is in these type of games to get 3 points.

He'll make sure the players are switched on and will keep changes to a minimum. Maybe Bailly for Jones.

Most of the noise seems to suggest that's for the summer and not much going on in Jan.

With Rojo and Fellaini injured that is two of the potential outs that look not to be happening either.

I agree , we do have a long road to go , I have seen United fans , not on here , saying we have a chance of the PL this season , they are deluded.
Europe next season is the aim for me, be it top 4 (which would be best) or even EL , but I think Europe next season is a must.
Defence is needing new players for starters.

Rashford looked absolutely shot at the end of the Tottenham game. Have a feeling he might be rested today and Sanchez given a start.

I think it would be more likely that Ole'd replace him with Lukaku given Sanchez has fitness issues, but I expect Rashford to start. He had a full week to recover. Even had one or two full days off iirc. Think Sanchez will be a sub.

It still boggles my mind how you guys can post here and watch the game at the same time. What's the secret to it?

I don't think you could blame Alexis for wanting to stay on the pitch seeing as how it's gone for him so far. Would be odd for Ole to be irritated at that. Yeah, it depends how fit he is I guess. Maybe a sub might be better to ease him back.

That's a shame if true. Not sure what to make of injury news to Fellaini especially. Could it not be made up to excuse why he's been left out? Kind of Ole saving face for Fellaini before he goes.

But that game was 6 days ago?

Rashford is probably the fittest player we have in the team and bang in form so has to start imo.

Brighton ain't gonna play the pressing game I presume so I think Fred might be useful today
