    Yep. Lethargic.
The poster below, explained it well.

I have noticed that a lot of people are getting very defensive of our team, right now. New manager has given a lift, but people don't want to hear anything bad about the team.
Against Spurs, in the 2nd half, we were pinned in our own half, with 10 men behind the ball. Spurs were in complete control, yet in another thread when I wrote this, I got a lot of flack.
People need to understand that even when we play badly, we can get a win and that we shouldn't expect every single match to be a vintage performance.
Against Reading we weren't great. And Spurs were the better team overall - but we won both matches, which is great.

There is plenty of reasons for positivity. Under Ole I think pretty much every player is showing the best they can. That doesn't mean we should be blind to the fact for some players their best is not good enough and we will get exposed at times.

Still it's also early days under Ole so plenty of players can improve with increasing focus on fitness and stamina which is required under Ole and should always be.

I think this will be a truer reflection of where we're at than Tottenham which was basically Ole springing a nice tactical surprise first half, which got us the platform to then defend a lead, and then 45mins of Tottenham shooting practise.

Brighton have always made us work hard for points, it's always a physical and tough game and it'll be interesting to see how hungry the players are for this. On paper we should run rampant but I expect a bit a of a slog with them setting up like Newcastle.

Now people will pretend Sanchez is useless now that he’s been out for a while and forget he puts out assist numbers to rival Pogba even in his subdued version.... and the man is an absolute workhorse. Would have buried a few more chances against spurs. His decision making is better than any of our other forwards. The man gets an assist almost every game he plays.
He's played 25 games and got about 6 or 7 assists? In what way has he got an assist a game?

    fecking deserves a goal
Somebody will (finally!) provide the cross for him to finish after he started the move by bypassing the midfield and gives a nice forward throughpass prior.

I think in this season, it (didnt) happen for him at least twice where he provided the pass and moved into space, but never received the ball back.

And he'll bury a fine bicycle kick and win goal of the month :D

Have a feeling that Lukaku will start tomorrow. Brighton have two big, physical defenders in Duffy and Dunk that would make it difficult for Rashford if he starts on top. With Lukaku on top instead, they have to focus on him more, even if he's not at strong as he looks.

Rashford and Martial, or whoever starts on the wings could instead make runs more freely in attacking positions.

    Looking forward to the game!

I very much doubt it! Rashfords pace will frighten the life out of them!

Rashford, Lingard and Martial have been rotating with all of them drifting everywhere. So the CBs often have no one to mark. Worked very well so far and on a big pitch don't see why we need to change. We don't play with a target man.

Very true, but I keep remembering the game against Newcastle and how hard it was for us to create chances before we scored from a GK error. Brighton will probably approach the game with a very defensive mindset and that's why I think that starting Lukaku could benefit the wingers somehow.

Whatever we decide to go with I hope we absolutely batter them.

    I'd happily take a boring 2-0.
Or a swashbuckling 10-0 win, whichever one takes their fancy.

Instead of worrying about the two CB, they should be worrying of the pace of front 3!

Plus, it has been working so far, and the consistenty in selection of first 11 should and need to continue. During Jose last few months, the team had been chopped and change far too often and no consistent system and tactics.

Yeah they stuggled but have to remember it was in the middle or end of a really busy Christmas period. Understandably they looked bit jaded.

Not to mention, they were playing very defensively. Stayed deep in their own half for most of the game, and played dirty physical game. It should have ended with at least 1 red card for them.

Considering the last 7 games, this should be a stroll in the park.

Had a dream last night the game finished 3:3 with Fellaini ending the match at CB for United...can only imagine that happening after a few red cards!

Regardless what happens it’s worth a watch!

I want to see us rub their noses in it. For some unknown reason, I really don't like Brighton, as inoffensive as they may be.

    At The Lowry

There were only 18 players seen at the hotel including the three keepers. I assume Young will be in the final squad.

Goalkeepers (3): David de Gea, Sergio Romero, Lee Grant
Defenders (5): Diogo Dalot, Eric Bailly, Victor Lindelof, Phil Jones, Luke Shaw
Midfielders (4): Nemanja Matic, Andreas Pereira, Ander Herrera, Paul Pogba
Forwards (6): Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard, Alexis Sanchez, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Romelu Lukaku

If we only had Rashford then I'd maybe agree. Fight strength with strength. But with Martial and probably Lingard also playing the movement and pace should be enough to deal with them.

You can't kick me if you can't get close.

Please keep playing Rashford. Want him to cement the number one position and go into the new season with full confidence.

In our five league games under Ole, we've scored 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1. So I expect 6 or none in this game.

They had 7 shots to our 5, 4 off target, 3 were blocked. 2 of ours were off target and 3 on target

They had 60.1% of first half possession. They had 367 touches to our 266.

They had 83% pass success to our 73%

They had 3 corners to our 2.

Yes we had 7 dribbles to their 3 and won 7 aerials to their 4.

This is from whoscored.com if you want the source.

Anyway bottom line we didn't own the first half! It was fairly even in opportunities, but they were far more in control.

Second half they had 11 shots on target to our 5, 2 shots off target to our 1 and had 1 shocked blocked to our 2.

    They had 62% possession.

Pass success was 85% to 75%

Dribbles was 5 to 7 in our favour and aerials 6 to 7. We only had 5 tackles to their 9. They had 4 corners to our 2.

I think the above shows they are a better team as a whole and we are simply relying on having a little more quality in one or two pockets. We undoubtedly have weaknesses that need to be addressed because our stars won't make up for our overall weakness.
all that mattered was the score line, OK so they had more of the game, to be honest dont give a rats arse, we went to Wembley for the win and got it.

As long as the super six has gone to the lads heads and the hard graft is put in we should be ok. Against Scouse Brighton were well drilled and solid until a silly penalty was conceded. We will need to be patient, and our fullbacks might be key as we need to overpower them around their box. Our two CBS and Matic should handle Murray and their attackers.

Plus finally our crowd could be the 12th man we should get at OT.

    Looking forward to seeing this.

Got a feeling Lukaku will start tomorrow, Brighton are going to sit deep with lots of men so I can see us using the wings and getting some crosses in, less so running in behind.

I know rashford can do this too but it would be good for Lukaku to get on the end of some crosses. Ole can just boost rashford giving him a rest after the tough run we’ve had and impact sub him if we need.

    I just realize this. Damn!
We haven't score 7 and 7+ goals either, so maybe we'll spank Brighton with more than 6. joke

    5 vs 1 Cardiff
    3 vs 1 Huddersfield
    4 vs 1 Bournemouth
    2 vs 0 Newcastle
*2 vs 0 Reading (FA CUP)*
    1 vs 0 Spurs

Concede 1 goal on 3 consecutive games, then clean sheet on the next 3. So I expect us maintain another clean sheet (because FA Cup doesn't count) or concede 2 or more goals?! :nervous:against freaking Brighton?!

6(+) win vs 2(+) Brighton?! I'll take this goal festa.

If they are sitting deep and have decent aerial CBs then agility and movement will unlock them more readily than hoping Lukaku can get his head on a cross. The same kind of play that saw Martial score against Cardiff is what we need.

Once you've nabbed a goal you immediately get more space as they have to try and score.

Playing on Saturday the 5th, Sunday the 13th and now Saturday the 19th should not be an issue for a 21 year old.

Would love it if Pereira could start (maybe on the right side/wing).

They're not bright enough for ya?

I suppose it goes back to all that bollocks they were spouting before the 1983 Cup Final with Jimmy Melia and his girlfriend gobbing off about us. Their captain, Steve Foster, saying how he was going to lift the trophy. It was a lack of respect. Foster got dog's abuse from the United fans in the replay.

Only two songs being sung on that Thursday night:

"Stevie Foster(x2), what a difference you have made(x2)"

    and

"Happy Birthday to you(x2), happy birthday Matt Busby, happy birthday to you"

Some how am really nervous now, since OGS appointment, most of the league games have had different challenge going into them. First game, then first home game, then an away game and then top 6 opponent away that was in good form. If OGS has focused on one thing this week, one thing at all, it's to keep any sort of complacency to settle in. No disrespect to Brighton but, now we are expected to do well at home, it now is deemed not as a challenge - so possibility of a let down. Cannot let that happen, momentum is a big thing, especially with Chelsea/Arsenal playing each other and can put pressure up.

    This

The fact that they can all play across the forward line is a huge advantage for us .it forces the opponent back and gives pogba and the full backs more freedom to bomb forward.

Our static forward line was a big reason for the overall lethargic play

Lingard gets a lot of criticism but he really helps the fluidity of the front 3 with his movement. He works very hard and turns up in unexpected positions where he finds space and pulls defenders around.
