If we start well and score a goal in the first 10-15 minutes, we will thrash them.

Beat them 2-0 in the Cup though. Game certainly isn't a giveme and it would just be like this United side to beat Spurs and then drop points at home to Brighton

I think somebody in another thread mentioned something like this.
Basically, our players have been building up the games in their head, where every week, we played a better team and this culminated with beating Spurs. After this, the players may feel that they have played their "Cup Final" and may now regress.

This game will give us a very good idea as to whether the players can raise themselves to play a lower tier team or if they can't be bothered (as we saw consistently, under Jose).
Consider also, that the honeymoon effect of the new manager has probably finished. We were lethargic against Reading and against Spurs, we were absolutely dominated in the 2nd half and got out of it, due to heroics from DDG.

They are definitely not push over. We struggled in every game we played with them since they got promoted so far. We should go with our main lineup, all points now are crucial.

    Lethargic? come on now.

Against Reading we fielded mostly players who have barely kicked a ball, and some of them we know aren't good enough. Spurs, we could have been 2-0 up before they turned the heat up not even for the full 2nd half. The 1st half completely belonged to us.

There's no need to rotate anyway. We've had loads of rest the past few weeks. We need to play our strongest 11 as much as possible.

rotate too much and you get another game like Reading. Disjointed play. I think OGS knows this and may still mainly with the now established first team. Perhaps a couple of tweaks at most.

Under Mourinho, you feel that players were not putting in their best and were not competing for the first team. Under OGS, it is a different story. Everyone seems to want game time. So I do not think the foot will be off the pedal any time soon.

4-0 please. How could we ever have lost to them?

If everyone is ok that played against Spurs I don't want any rotation, but would like to see Pereira and Lukaku come in from the bench if we lead with a couple of goals. Would also like to see Greenwood or Chong 10-15 minutes.

Against Spurs, we all seen how much our defence were opened up time and again in the second half.

De Gea saved the day for us with his 11 saves, and anyone who didn't see that we need to upgrade our defence sooner rather than later needs to go to specsavers.

Any word on Pogba yet? Or will we have to wait until tomorrow?

I'd imagine Ole expects us to have over 65% of the ball and Brighton to sit deep. If Pogba isn't fit, then it'll be interesting to see what the decision is. It could be a straight replacement with Fred coming in, but I'm thinking we could see Sanchez or Mata start at no.10 instead.

    de Gea
    Young Lindelof Jones Shaw
    Herrera Matic
    Lingard Sanchez Martial
    Rashford

Would like to see Matić given rest, and in case of comfortable lead in the match Herrera not playing full 90 min.

Defence same, midfield Herrera to Matić position with Fred occupying his, and attack the same as Tottenham game.

Gegenpressing leads to disjointed play if the opposition replies in kind. Then players with on the ball technique rather than creativity show their difference.

Brighton have five players out, three automatic choices: Izquierdo (LW), Bernardo (LB), Ryan (GK) as well as stand ins Bissouma (M), Jahanbakhsh (RW). This means they lack pace upfront as Murray and Knockaert are relatively slow. It was the same vs Liverpool. Gives them a rather blunt and ineffectual attack. No need for Bailley to be in panic mode.

I think Brighton have lost their way a bit this season through injuries to key players and silly errors. Got 3 more points because they have tightened up on an appalling record at conceding set pieces, but not the six penalties conceded.

Thought we looked very tired in 2nd half against Spurs. Probably would be nice with some rotation/rest if we lead.

Sanchez to start on the right would be ideal. Try and play him into form against the lesser sides.

Some interesting insight to their team there. If I could like the post I would.

Need to make changes and give fringe players more game time. With champions league around the corner we will need 15-16 players who are in form, understand and fit the setup. Currently there are only 11 and they were the ones that started against Tottenham.

Players like Mata, Sanchez, Lukaku, Fred, Dalot, Perreira and Baily need to improve and hopefully can get some gametime in coming weeks.

    Starting line-up

    DeGod
    Dalot-Baily-Jones-Shaw
    Herrera-Perreira/Fred
    Pogba
    Lingard-Lukaku-Martial

We still have a shot at top 4, need to maintain our momentum. I don't mind giving someone like Fred a chance from the start, Dalot and Bailly, but i see very little reason to make changes in attack when we have a well functioning trio. Sanchez is returning from a lengthy injury, keeps picking up knocks, so keep him on the bench and give him minutes towards the end. Stick Lukaku on at around 65-70mins.

It's a bit of a catch 22 but I know but they should only get in the team if the player in their position drops form, gets injured or if they are tired and need a rest or lastly tactical reasons. They need to know that they have to work hard for a starting spot and then to keep it. Unless any of these reasons occur I would only coincider a slight rotation for Burnley.

It's not like any of them were setting the world alight before injury etc and deserved to go straight back in.

I'm looking forward to seeing a from 3 of Martial, Rashford and Sanchez but he has to earn it first.
Now people will pretend Sanchez is useless now that he’s been out for a while and forget he puts out assist numbers to rival Pogba even in his subdued version.... and the man is an absolute workhorse. Would have buried a few more chances against spurs. His decision making is better than any of our other forwards. The man gets an assist almost every game he plays.

Thanks for the compliments. i could go on, but won't. Just to say the United players that will give Brighton most problems are Pogba because he is sheer class even if playing badly. Creative and too strong on the ball. The others are less fashionable: Ashley Young because of his speed getting back on counter attacks and his general professional play. Rashford may cause problems because of his pace and strength if allowed to run into space. Brighton have about as much chance of a result as the 1983 Cup Final. Murray would not beat de Gea with a one on one in the last minute.

Not going to be popular but I’d put Alexis in for Martial.

Not an unpopular thought at all. We need to get Alexis up to speed and firing on all cylinders in this rejuvenated side as quickly as possible for as long as we have OGS at the helm.

The only reason I didn't have him starting myself was the niggling injury he's been shaking off. But he needs minutes.

I would put Sanchez in for Lingard instead.

Trident of these three is theoretically our best weapon, though there are doubts if Sanchez is still that good. Sanchez will keep on switching positions to both sides with Tony and Marcus interchangeably who shall move centrally in phases. Love to see this in action first.

    Martial -- Sanchez -- Rashford

You don't change a winning team.

They've had a weeks rest so they should all be ready to go.

lukaku / Sanchez / Mata as the game changers if we need them.

Brighton won't be easy though, they're well drilled and will be happy with a point.

    Selection issues
Any selection issues ahead of the game?

There’s not many issues, I think just small niggles as there always is at this point of the season, Chris, Marcos just started running lightly so not fit yet Alexis has trained all week so hopefully he’ll be available and Felli is the long-term one that’s out. He’ll be out for a few weeks.

    ---

    On Alexis Sanchez
You’ve got better performances out of all big players at United, one exception so far is Sanchez because he has hardly been on the pitch how frustrating is it that he can’t play as much as you would like him to?

You have to ask him, a player loves to play football, doesn’t matter who you are and he’s been hindered by injury, I know how frustrating that can be and how eager you are to get back. Maybe in the Reading game at HT he should have told me to come off because the next 15 or 20 mins were a setback.

But he’s champing at the bit in training. He’s attitude has been fantastic in training and I’m looking forward to seeing him, I’ve got loads of good players to choose from.
    Fellaini out injured.
    Smalling and Rojo big doubts.
    Alexis n Sanchez small doubt.

    Everyone else available.
Yeap, likely the same lineup, with probably just one change.
Same ATK, same MID, and a small different DEF maybe.

Would be a huge hurdle passed in my eyes if we play and press with the same intensity as we did against Cardiff. No slacking, go after them.

They had 7 shots to our 5, 4 off target, 3 were blocked. 2 of ours were off target and 3 on target

They had 60.1% of first half possession. They had 367 touches to our 266.

They had 83% pass success to our 73%

They had 3 corners to our 2.

Yes we had 7 dribbles to their 3 and won 7 aerials to their 4.

This is from whoscored.com if you want the source.

Anyway bottom line we didn't own the first half! It was fairly even in opportunities, but they were far more in control.

Second half they had 11 shots on target to our 5, 2 shots off target to our 1 and had 1 shocked blocked to our 2.

    They had 62% possession.

Pass success was 85% to 75%

Dribbles was 5 to 7 in our favour and aerials 6 to 7. We only had 5 tackles to their 9. They had 4 corners to our 2.

I think the above shows they are a better team as a whole and we are simply relying on having a little more quality in one or two pockets. We undoubtedly have weaknesses that need to be addressed because our stars won't make up for our overall weakness.

We have had trouble with Brighton in our 3 games against them under Mourinho. Would like to see us dominate the game and win with something and hand but football is rarely that straightforward. Big game for Martial with Sanchez back from injury and waiting in the wings.

not sure where the confidence comes from, but I'm going for a 4-0 win

    Lethargic? come on now.

    Yep. Lethargic.
The poster below, explained it well.

I have noticed that a lot of people are getting very defensive of our team, right now. New manager has given a lift, but people don't want to hear anything bad about the team.
Against Spurs, in the 2nd half, we were pinned in our own half, with 10 men behind the ball. Spurs were in complete control, yet in another thread when I wrote this, I got a lot of flack.
People need to understand that even when we play badly, we can get a win and that we shouldn't expect every single match to be a vintage performance.
Against Reading we weren't great. And Spurs were the better team overall - but we won both matches, which is great.
