Today, I can only think he'll play as the more attacking midfielder, which has it's advantages against a team like City, who press high up the pitch.
A couple seasons ago, I remember Jose expressing how much he didn't want our players playing 'first station' passes, following our defeat to City.
This meant that he didn't want his central backs to pass short to the central midfielders in front of them. Mourinho wanted them to pass to the full backs or hit longer balls forward.
This is where Fellaini comes into it. I'm sure everyone can remember how good Fellaini was against a high pressing Liverpool side under Van Gaal.
The midfield that day was Carrick, Herrera and Fellaini, who played slightly further forward than the other two.
Liverpool simply couldn't live with him. He allowed us to get up the pitch and from there we were able to attack.
If used correctly today, he'd have a field day today with a midfield of the two Silva's and Fernadinho.

It's a total myth, the fact is the managers we have hired have not got the best out of this team consistently as the team do not play on players strengths and is not cohesive enough and are not coached properly to play as a cohesive unit on and off the ball. The likes of Herrera and fred are being wasted with his deep defense, zero pressing and passive reactive tactics in the middle of the pitch, wingers playing as wingbacks rarely get chance to go one on one on full backs and defenders, while strikers cone behind to revive the ball than to stretch the play. This team is good enough to get 90 plus points under the right tactics and more cohesive style of play, rest few strategic tweaks and we should have been ready this season, but as always we target the wrong players in the summer and blew it up.People have been moaning that Pogba is stealing a living forever. They should be pleased now.I doubt Huddersfield or Cardiff boards are as defeatist or downright depressing before a trip to City. Christ. Anyone else looking forward to this?Fellaini has to play now.If Mata is on the right and fred for pogba then it's still a good side and well balanced on paper. Lingard on the right and Herrera, fellaini and matic in midfield would be woeful though.
