Disgusting how underrated DDG has become because of a temporary dip in form after being superhuman for about five years. He’s been back to something like his best of late by the way.

Not sure he’s even had a dip! Defence has been absolutely horrific but he’s hardly had a bad game

They are drinking the press kool-aid, he had a shit WC and wasn't performing to his heroic standards for us in Aug-Sep. That was enough for folks to go on a hyperbole, 'not better than Neuer'; 'Ederson is a more rounded GK' and what not.

Pep's system is making few of the players look far better than they actually are, Ederson barely has to make a save in 11 matches, just 19 to be precise. Put him behind Smalling and Lindelof, flanked by Shaw and Young and see how he copes.

Maybe the club should hire a DoF?

Aye, when the managers are clueless, we will have to hire a sporting director. But its any managers dream to have all the powers to himself in terms of recruitment, but as its always is , with power you have great responsibility, and Jose has screwed it up with his planning and style of tactics and vision he had for this club.

Quality players like kante, mane, jorginho, mahrez, Silva all snapped up by other clubs and we are targeting likes of matic willian, a crocked bale. Dint even show interest in fekir type playmaker. Still wondering what has fred added to this team that could make a difference.

By all round game you mean his passing don't you

Probably. Distribution too. I think Ederson suits Pep's side well.

We need a superhuman shot stopper due to our shite defense. Other clubs with more settled defense could fancy other keepers over De Gea for various reasons. It's not a slight on him of course.

Working during the match. Hopefully I can avoid spoilers until I get home.

Oh wait. It's 'football' Sunday in the US. This will be easy.

His distribution was fine when we played with the ball and played from the back in lvg time here. Mourinho wants to kick it long so he follows instructions.

Picking a combined 11 from only one team was new and shocking when someone did it last year with Spurs vs Arsenal. Now it is boring and such an obvious attempt to get some attention.

    Paul Pogba update
We should have confirmation soon as to whether or not Pogba is available for today’s game and if it’s just been mind games from Mourinho.

The squad are just leaving the hotel to travel to the ground.

I wouldn't usually give this united much of a chance but the 2 come from behind victories have inevitably raised my hopes despite the best efforts of my rational part.

Passing and distribution is the same thing...Hes a good goalkeeper but hes nowhere near De Gea if we're being honest. But the big thing for both is that they're only goalkeepers. I say only because while they have some influence on the rest of the team play, if you have a good enough system, you can cover up for an average goalkeeper and you wont even notice. A goalkeeper should be the last line of defence, only used if the actual gameplan fails pretty much. So while it's important to have a good keeper, it's nowhere near as important as sorting out the rest of your team and quality differences between keepers can easily be covered up. For City's purposes, Ederson is more than good enough. De gea would basically make no difference to them.

Goal keeper makes difference in cup and champions league games where other teams also can play football and hurt you just like pep found out from last 2 years.

    Is Pogba involved?
United have put this on their Instagram story and if you look closely it’s Pogba’s shirt which could hint he is involved this afternoon.

We should have confirmation very soon once the whole squad have left the hotel.

    World Cup harmed perceptions.
He made one bad howler in the World Cup, which can happen to any keeper in any game. An error from a keeper often leads to a goal, but DDG has made very few errors in five years; also his distribution is very good, so let's not nit pick. He's the best around.

Pogba will be a loss, lukaku won't. Fred can cover up some of that from pogba though. Ideally I'd have Fred, Herrera as the dm and fellaini next to them, but we all know it'll be Matic in for Herrera. It's still a good team, but City have a far better gameplan and system so it'll be hard to do much in the game. The gap between individuals isnt that huge (even with pogba out, as they have De Bruyne out), but the way they play I'm not expecting much. Especially after we won the last game against them. Reckon they'll be out for revenge.

Tough week for a line up prediction with so many unknowns.

    Gone for:

    De Gea
    Young - Smalling - Lindelof - Shaw
    Herrera - Matic - Fellaini
    Lingard - Sanchez - Martial
    I figure...

Herrera - a bit of a trusted general for Mourinho and has been given a role in a fair few of our big games.
Fellaini - seems an obvious choice if Pogba is out, completely different players but Fellaini is useful in the box at both ends.
Lingard - without Pogba, I think Mourinho will want at least one player who can drop in centrally and carry the ball forward.
Sanchez - seems to be picking up a bit of form and seems to enjoy a central role.

Notable absences (assuming Pogba and Lukaku are out)...
Rashford - He's been lively as a sub recently and with Martial's form on the left, Lingard's complete game and Sanchez better centrally, I'm guessing he will be on the bench.
Mata - If this was at home I'd expect him to start but I think Mourinho will want pace in his width today considering City's strength and speed there.
Fred - essentially the same job as Herrera and I think Mourinho will opt for the experienced head in Herrera.

Was differentiating usage of hands and feet. Oh well, can't be arsed with terminology.

I don't disagree with much of what you say. I just think that Ederson is being underrated at times while bigging De Gea up by some, which might be unfair to the former.

    Luckhurst spreading misinformation (again)

Luckhurst not long ago posted a picture on twitter of a United shirt which had a number 6 on the inside. The 6 refers to the shirt size and not the number of the player. This does not mean that Pogba will be playing.
Not this again, every season we are not 4 players off. In other games we have to play to our players strengths with few tweaks.

Okay, so in your opinion, apart from DDG, who would get into MCFC's starting line up?
The truth is that our squad is not in the same class as MCFC's. IMO our squad is about 4th best, behind MCFC, LFC, CFC.

For those saying the Pogba stuff is mind games - Mourinho doesn’t really get involved with that sort of stuff. He’s out :(

It’s definitely a blow...We could have done with Pogba...But maybe we can now play a 4-2-3-1 with 2 holding midfielders in front of the back 4...Herrera and Matic can play as the holding midfielders...Mata,Lingard,Martial and Sanchez can be a potent attacking front 4...

    Fellaini is the rumored replacement.

I honestly think we are fecked without him. So inconsistent but he plays with personality when at his best and is the man that can help us carry a threat higher up the pitch. I would love to be wrong but expect nothing more than a comfortable City win.

If Pogba doesnt play then our best chance is to turn over play in the middle and counter at speed. With that in mind, I would play Herrera and Fred with Matic in behind. Fred and Herrera are capable of winning the ball back numerous times during a game.

The bigger issue is that Pogba being out allows City to focus on Martial, and likely double up on him, which sadly nullifies our attacking threat significantly. We need to hope Sanchez and Mata? can step up to force Citys defenders to think about them to.

I don’t see him as indispensable. He did nothing against Juve and we still managed to win...I would argue that winning in Turin is tougher than winning at the Etihad...Apart from De Gea,nobody’s indispensable in this team.

Pogba can be brilliant in these big games, but he can also be infuriatingly careless.Herrera and Matic can guard our back 4 diligently...They can provide a platform for our attacking players to take on the City back 4.

    I hope you’re right, mate.

I would just rather go in with our strongest side against City away.

A bit like the Juve game, I’m treating this like a free hit, so at least won’t be too disappointed if we get beaten.
