This game will be tougher than the Chelsea game, probably stating the obvious but still. I watched the City - Chelsea game and they were very impressive. I don't take too much out of the draw vs CSKA & the defeat to West Ham because they will be up for this game, for sure.

They will dominate possession, that's a given so we should be looking to play on the counter. If Rooney is fit I would start him over Mata, if not Herrera in his place to give us more energy and tenacity in the middle. I don't actually think Mata was terrible vs Chelsea, he played well enough in the first half but faded a bit in the second. I just think we would also need more of a physical prescence vs City and someone that will work without the ball, because City move the ball so well and exploit space.

    De Gea
    Rafael--Smalling--Rojo--Shaw
    Fellaini--Blind
    Herrera*
    Januzaj--van Persie--Di Maria

I would prefer Falcao to start but that won't be happening. *Rooney if fit.

Thats the exact team I was just about to post before I read your post. In fact I'd take Herrera in the no.10 regardless of whether Rooney is fit or not. I agree with the bit about Falcao too. I just think he deserves his chance to show what he's got and this game would be perfect for him. That team with Falcao and I'd be confident of a victory.

I'm honestly not sure where to place myself on this one. Ordinarily I'd expect us to up our game, as we seem to enjoy doing against you lot, but there's the nagging feeling that we'll go 4-4-2 and sacrifice any control in midfield for blistering pace and hope our goals come when Aguero gets on the end of something.

We both have our weaknesses, we both have our strengths, either way it's going to make for an entertaining game. I think we'll nick it, 3-2. While we both have our attacking might and defensive frailties there stands to be lots of goals, and I think having the home advantage (and that West Ham result festering away in our minds) will see us over the line.

The last time we lost two successive Premier League games was October 2010. Could United change that? I'm not too sure. It'll be a gripping game nonetheless, as has every single Manchester derby since your 2-1 win in 2011.

I don't think there are any mind games here, if what we've seen from LvG so far is any indication, he says it like it is. There's a good chance we'll go into the game without both Rooney and Jones. It was good to see RvP look a lot like his earlier self last game, we'll need more from him again. Herrera will be a useful addition to the squad. We need his energy and intelligent reading of the game to stop the City midfield from dominating. Fellaini had a big game against City and we need another big performance from him to keep Yaya Toure in check.

That;s what people said before Chelsea. Where's the belief?
I have no idea why anyone thought Chelsea would score three/four goals or anything like that. That was never going to happen, provided we didn't go out with a ridiculously unbalanced system.

City are a different animal in one-off games though. They scare me a lot more. We have to score first. And even then we'll have to ride a storm or two.

Them losing to West Ham probably does us no favours either.

I'm torn as to what to think about this. I think this team has the potential to be better than Chelski, but so far this season it hasn't demonstrated that capability once to my knowledge. Going on this form, and also considering we're going to have some attacking prowess back from Falcao and Rooney (to replace the fairly average performances of Mata and RvP (despite that goal and celebration I could have kissed him for)) I think we can win this, the team is finally starting to come together.

Also, the 2 Manc teams are kinda similar. A slightly inconsistence defence and a brilliant attack. I'd actually rate our midfield as good as theirs based on the last couple games, but then they have been underperforming. So would like to think we're in for goals galore.

After the Chelsea match I'm weirdly confident. But maybe that's not good, every time I'm confident recently we lose. But this is more of a cautious confidence I guess.

Also, anyone know what channel this is on in the UK? BT Sports, Sky etc.

Good lord Falcao and Rooney in doubt for the derby. By time the end of November rolls around we might not have enough players to dress for a game. LvG will be picking people out of the stands to play (people who will then promptly do their hamstring in running out onto the pitch).

Colombian reports suggest falcao will be out for two weeks...

    ughh

To me it's not really important if Falcao is ready or not for this game.

I mean that Falcao or RVP, we must play with one striker in this kind of game in order to be more balanced thought the midfield. Falcao could have come to help/replace RVP at the 60th min, but even if he’s fit, LVG will play the big game in 4-1-4-1.

I’m more concern about Rooney, his ability to find good passes and especially his work rate. He could have been very good in this game if fit.

We can probably promote Fellaini as the number 10 and include Herrera in the starting 11 if fit, that would suit me more than having Mata

If Aguero is similar to how he was vs Tottenham we'll need to be better at the back than we have in any other game this season.

Big game all round, let hope RVP is confident and Di Maria shows his full compliment.

Haven't won away from home yet, what are the chances we finally do it against city? Unlikely I feel, 3-1 city I think! I'd love a draw!

Behen chodh firse? Ma chudao lagta hai aapas me ek dusre ki gaand fadne me lage hai training me. Koi inko batao behenchodh gand opposition ki marni hai ek dusre ki nai. Kutte sale, Lelo ek dusre ki aur sare fans ki.
Starting to see a pattern in your posts - I agree we are doing something wrong in training. I also agree that the opposition doesn't seem to have the same problem. I don't know if the club will be for sale soon, but definitely many fans would like that.

Should be a fantastic game, especially if Rooney, Falcao, and Herrera can be involved.

I'm guessing 3-2 United with a healthy squad.

Hearing Silva doubtful with Virus and Aguero likely not to be considered at all. Told by a very realiable source

Huge match for Fellaini. Two very good shows in a row from him for the first time, and he's coming up against an inconsistent beast in Yaya in our biggest match of the season so far. Hopefully he'll take the confidence from his last two performances and batter the crap out of Toure. I would love to see that. If Toure dominates then City will win. Come on Fellaini you big haired sh**bag!

    • Falcao up against Mangala could be tasty.

    • Can we please just play the same back 4 in consecutive games? - most other teams manage it but we seem to struggle to keep 4 defenders fit for two games in a row.

    • Rooney being injured would be ridiculously annoying, however after watching the MNF analysis of the Chelsea game it was clear to see the tactical job Mata had, and he carried it out very well. I wonder how Rooney will handle having to be tactically disciplined in these big games. He has a tendency when we are chasing a game to run all over and chase every lost cause, sometimes to the detriment of the teams shape. Remember the games vs Madrid 2 seasons ago Fergie picked Welbeck to man mark Xabi Alonso over Rooney. Mata won't get any credit because he didn't get a goal or assist but both he and Fellaini did a good job nullifying Fabregas and Matic (Fellaini more robustly than Mata, obviously). Fabregas completed just 5 passes in the first half. If Rooney is fit though, he should and will start, but it'll be interesting to see how he performs in what is likely to be another very tactical game.

This. Well said. I was wondering whether I was the only one seeing Mata do a very tidy job tactically. Running around chasing everything won't have helped the team. I am a bit concerned how Rooney can perform tactically, but just given his goal scoring energy, and energy, he should probably start. Rooney, if fit, will play an important part.

There's a chance I'll be going to this game with my City mates. Excited.

That's your first post 10 months after joining and you come up with that? Try harder and be more subtle mate.

Same team vs Chelsea except Herrara comes in as the #10 to replace Mata. Fellani has to play and if he does he will give their CB's trouble all game.

I'd like to see City line-up like this

    Hart
    Zabaleta Kompany Mangala Kolarov
    Fernandinho Toure
    Nasri Silva Milner
    Aguero

Would be tempted to go for a 3 man midfield seeing as for the first time in a while you'll actually be playing with one but Silva simply has to be in a central position. I'm really looking forward to this one. Last season I loved the 4-0 win as it came early enough in Moyes reign to not be a shock but the game at Old Trafford was weird, it was just such a formality it didn't feel like a derby at all. Hoping for that competitiveness to be brought back believe it or not and I think on Sunday we should witness a great game. Both defences looking suspect but plenty of firepower up top. Makes for a cracking game normally, although I'm hoping Zaba and Kompany continue their impressive record in big games. I think we'll run out winners on for three key reasons: 1. Your defence is weaker than ours 2. We should still have control in midfield provided Toure turns up 3. David Silva.

I'll go with a 4-2 City win. I'm expecting goals, it's just going to be a case of how they're distributed. Ultimately it will come down to whose defence is the least bad.

An entertaining draw will do me fine. Aguero scoring a late-ish goal, but only for Di Maria to score an even later goal to make it 2-2 final score.

    I would line up...

    DDG
    Rafael Smalling Rojo Shaw
    Fellaini Blind
    Januzaj Rooney* Di Maria
    RVP

    Herrera if Rooney isn't fit.

Basically I think we need to be strong on the break and defensively solid as well, Fellaini and Blind mopping up and unleashing Januzaj, Rooney and Di Maria for the counter attacks, I reckon RVP will score, he will go on a run after the Chelsea goal. Herrera in for Rooney if Rooney isn't fit to give us a bit more control.

I don't think Januzaj will play. I think LVG will protect him a bit and play him as a starter only in home games. He has a long career ahead of him and I think there's no rush to play him so often as well.

    I would play a diamond:

    De Gea

    Rafael
    Smalling
    Rojo
    Shaw

    Blind
    Herrera
    Fellaini

    Di Maria

    Rooney
    van Persie

If Herrera can't play I'd pick Valencia or swtich to a 4-2-3-1 and play Januzaj and Di Maria on the wings with Rooney behind van Persie.

Falcao's coming back from injury so the I'd put him on the bench to have as a wildcard in case we needed it later on. Rooney will play if fit because he's captain and I've no problem with that. The rest pick themselves really.

The diamond would be a Good idea, but knowing us, we won't have the players for it by Sunday. I think Rooney and Herrera needs to play if they are fit, they bring some much needed dynamism in the middle of the field. Same defence would be nice, after that it's Blind, Fellaini, Herrera, di Maria, Rooney and RVP. I think with this front 6 we are more flexible tactically than this Sunday.

    Hoping for good entertainment.

Btw is Nasri fit for this game?

Fellaini in ahead of Herrera??? I know the big fella has had a couple of decent games but come on!

If he is and Fellaini starts, he won't be fit for the next one.

Given the fact, that Falcao may be on the bench for this one as a result of his recent injury my prediction for starting lineup would be:

    -----------DDG
    Rafa- Smalling- Rojo - Shaw
    -----------Blind
    ------Fellana---ADM
    --------- Herrera/Januzaj
    ------Rooney-RVP

Personally I would go with that kind of diamond for derby as it looks very sensible and balanced for me. Mata is completely out of this one for me,because of his lack of speed and defensive contributions with both Adnan or Herrera you will get that.
